Right because elite free agents aren't being resigned by their teams left and right. Along with what it would cost to sign two elite centers, and how that would limit our options with the cap. Next year get a stud defender in the first, but even if Jarnkrok isn't a bust we still need another Top 6 C...

29pts in 53 games, small, and already 22. He is looking like he will be a third line center and not much more. So 4 years from now when Dats and Zetty (possibly) will be gone who is centering the top two lines?

I agree with you. Especially the McKee part, but I still feel there will be those types later in the draft.

Pumpkin- A stay at home defenseman can be had in the later rounds or FA. We need to address the middle of our top 6. Virtanen, Tuch, Goldobin, or Barbashev would be a good start to the draft. If Kapenan were to fall even better, but most are starting to think he will be in the top 5 now. Who knows though with the new lottery system in place if we were to miss the playoffs.

Doughty for Almquist. If they want Q they would need to throw in Kopitar as well lol. -
If we are gonna miss the playoffs we should draft Jake Virtanen. He is a better C, also RH, faster than Tuch, a fore-checking animal, has good size, and can really hold his own fighting. He projects as a higher end offensive prospect that already plays a nice two-way game. I've gotten off the Ehlers train since we do need to get bigger up the middle.

I never said the discounts weren't, but if you're gonna overpay for a FA to that extent Vanek isn't the guy to rap your franchise around. The young kids are gonna need healthy raises soon as well... -

Save the picks and accept the fact that we don't have a cup winning team. No need for a fire sale/rebuild when we can buyout Franzen, let our FA walk, and then go after Girardi + Callahan in free agency. -

Ehlers, Vrana, and Kapenan are falling into the mid first round according to a few mocks/ranking sites. Virtanen is rising a bit and may not be available around 15. Rich's guy Tuch is maintaining his 20th overall, but if he keeps up his offensive development I expect him to rise closer to June. ISS already has him climbing. This year's draft looks short on quality centers, so I would pray Jarnkrok develops offensively, and continue to address future scoring on the wing.

I would not make a move unless someone called for Quincy. Maybe get a 3rd from a team looking for depth. I would stay away from a big move. Let's see how the team develops after we get some guys back. -

I agree, and would ease him in as our 4th line center until he feels comfortable. Especially since, God willing, you can go Dats-Z-Helm down the middle until Weiss gets his legs/timing down.

Mantha, Jurco, Nyquist for Weber would castrate our offense in the future. Plus how would you fit it under the cap? They would have to take an overpaid vet as well to offset the hit for this year. I don't see us as a player for Weber if he is available. Now a stay at home dman, and a center like O'Reilly would be interesting...

This what I hope for as well. We are not getting any return out of Franzen, and his contract is going to handcuff the organization in the future. Buy him out, go for a youth movement next year, and try and stock pile picks in 2015. If we do become sellers I hope they look for picks in the 15 draft. Alfie, Helm, Q, and Kindl should be shopped for picks.

Draisaitl looks excellent as well if we would use this pick. I'd prefer trading a top 5 pick for a later pick and multiple picks from next years draft.Just like last year we will sneak in the playoffs and pick around 15-20. Virtanen would be my top choice around that range. He reminds me of Corey Perry. Next year would be the year to make a youth movement, not take anybody in FA, and see where the chips fall. If it falls into 2015's top 5 pick I could somewhat cope with a bad year.

Tuch played well against Michigan when I watched him play, but he didn't scream top 15. It is a down year, and I love his size so if we end up around 20 we could do a lot worse than Alex. Still hope we could manage Ehlers but we are loaded on small fast skill guys.
