Another thing - I was beginning to wonder if they'd ever show any of the Swedes speaking Swedish. They finally did when they went to Alfie's house for Christmas (the only time during any of the four segments). Considering almost a third of the team speaks Swedish, presumably that's an integral part of the communication that takes place in the locker room and on the ice.
In fact -- I remember a few years back they interviewed Hank right after a big playoff overtime win. The guys on the ice (all five Swedes) gathered for a quick discussion just before they scored the winner. The guy interviewing Hank asked what they discussed during the meeting and followed that up by asking if they spoke in English or Swedish. Hank had to think about it for a second, and responded the discussion was all in Swedish.

I knew he was a ****** bag before and it still confirms my feelings towards the Neanderthal name Phaneuf.
Phaneuf confirmed his status as major douchebag when he was talking s*** to Alfredsson. Alfie is a first ballot future hall of famer. There's a code of respect in the game for guys like Alfie - but obvously Phaneuf thinks he's above all that.

Philly's strategy is to beat us up enough where we won't be able to do anything on all the power plays - we'll be too banged up.
Philly has always played rough hockey - it's their MO.

Last couple of PPs looking weak.

Mick talking about Ovechkin's goal ... "It doesn't take much for this guy. He's just hovering around there like a bad smell."

Good night gentlemen.

While I agree that Pasha is important to the team, someone says this every time one of our cornerstone guys goes down. We always find ways to win but it's always dependent on how hard the rest of the team wants to play to make up the difference. The team is hurting all around, but not doomed.
My point was that it's just that much more evident when all those others guys are out. When Pasha and Hank are healthy - they can still win - even when half the team is out.

Kindl - just slam the f'ing thing and get it out!

Goes to show just how important Pavs is to this team . . .

Can't even skate the puck out of the zone without getting caught up. Jeez....

Mickey just said they've become a "turnover maching" in the first five minutes of this period. Can't say I disagree.

Did White think one of those guys were coming on??

Probably the biggest mistake Minny ever made. We are lucky that Minny outbid us. With the salary cap you can't way overpay for players (esp. long term) and expect to be successful.
But by the sounds of it - I think they would have went to Minny even if Minny's bid was a few million less than what they could have got elsewhere. In other words, if another team had offered $100 million - I think they still would have taken the $98 million offer they got from Minny.

I'm gonna go against the flow and say I just am not seeing the dramatic improvement. At best, I'll say he's cut down on the bone headed plays. But he still makes them and there are way too many of them.
I think one of the reasons he seems to be improving in the eyes of some fans is because the rest of the defensive corps has collectively taken such a huge drop off in the last few years.
Basically, I still can't stop from cringing when it's a tight game and he's got the puck deep in the Wings zone and someone is bearing down on him and he has to make a quick decision. When I can stop cringing in those situations - I'll start singing a different tune.

The grass is green and the sky is blue. The CBC announcers are biased towards the Canadians and the Canadian teams? I think it's hilarious that fans think that Ken and Mickey are "unbiased" and every other teams announcers are anti Wing.
I have NHL Gamecenter Live and watch all the teams - so I hear all the announcers. Of course, I hear Ken and Mickey more than any others because I am first and foremost a Wings fan. I can say this with confidence: on the scale of 1 to 10, wiith 10 being a complete homer and 1 being completely unbiased - Ken and Mickey are definitely close to low end.
With NHL Gamecenter Live, you can choose either team's annoucer feed. One thing I like to do is compare what the announcers say on controversial plays. There are some announcers who virtually never go against their own team on a controversial call. But Ken and Mickey do it all the time.
Case in point: the "illegal head shot" Backes layed on Huskins. From the second it happened, Ken and Mickey said it was a bad call.

He'll undress you in a phone booth if you're looking for a nickel? Is that what Mickey said?
Mick said, "He'll undress you in a phone booth and you'll be looking for a nickel."
And to put it in full context, after Pavel took a rare and fairly uncontested slapshot from dead center around 15 feet inside the blue line, Mick said, "Way too much time though for Pavel. He likes it in short quarters, and he'll undress you in a phone booth and you'll be looking for a nickel."

I'm not suggesting it hasn't been that way since forever ... we all know that. I'm saying there is a code for a select group of elite players. This is especially true in the later part of their careers. You don't take cheap shots at them and you don't talk trash during casual moments on the ice (heat of the moment is another matter, of course).
Case in point - how often did guys take cheap shots or talk trash to Lids toward the end of his career?
