Effort is not the problem. Detroit is actually playing well tonight. Especially the third line. But Calgary is doing well blocking shots and Kipper is outplaying Howard. That's the difference. Again, it's not effort. This team simply is just not good enough.

So what is our end game here? Trade a top six center who can play power play, penalty kill...pretty much any situation for.....? Another top six forward who can play in all of those situations? The Wings aren't contenders right now. They trade Filppula, you might want to start praying for the playoffs because there is not going to be much they can trade for that will bring equal or greater value. We have plenty of defensive depth, but we lack true top six forwards. How would trading Fil help that? Get a draft pick? No thanks.

Simple answer, no. We have maybe three or four legitimate top six forwards. Filppula is one of them. What are we going to trade him for? Short term it doesn't make sense and long term it doesn't make sense.

I think you guys are SEVERELY over-estimating how big of an impact being a lifelong fan will have on his decision. There is a reason he is fielding offers from other teams. Ultimately, he will do what is best for his career. If that's Detroit then I'm sure we'll here in all of the interviews about how it was his dream, but keep in mind, if this was strictly about being a childhood fan, he would already be on this team.

Hey everyone! Looooooong time lurker, figured I'd finally make an account seeing how I know a little bit about the Dekeyser situation. Dekeyser is meeting with teams over the next few days. He's meeting with the Leafs tonight, not sure who else though. Detroit is the front runner, but his agents are meeting with a bunch of teams. I do know for a fact that he is highly interested in the Red Wings, he just doesn't want to play in Grand Rapids for the next four years. If Detroit can give him ice time, the deal will be done soon. Also, I expect if they sign Dekeyser, he will get put into the line up immediately for evaluation and that will decide if we are active at the deadline or not.
