ECQF - (5) Maple Leafs vs. (4) Bruins

He may not have known because it wasn't an elbow to the head. Unless by "elbow" the reporter meant "forearm." It was contact to the head, though. No question there.

The Bruins definitely love their slap shots . . . edit: ...and Horton scores. Score one for random-internet-guy-is-completely-wrong. Side note: who knew Wade Redden still had this much hockey in him?

ECQF - (5) Maple Leafs vs. (4) Bruins

As someone who roots for the Bs, I'll sign onto this. Lucic used to be the perfect Bruin - big, mean, nasty, physical . . . and good. These days, he's still the perfect Bruin: satisfied, soft, paid, and complacent. Maybe I'm being unfair. This was a short season, the Bs schedule was backloaded to begin with, which got even worse with the marathon bombing make up games (6 games in the final 9 days? Ouch). But this has been an issue all season. Despite most of the roster being intact, this is a different team than the one that won the cup. And the difference isn't Tim Thomas. Rask isn't perfect, but he's definitely good enough to win. Kinda like Howard. The biggest difference I see is with Lucic and Horton. There's no nice way to put it -- they've been brutal this year.

Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension

I have to chuckle at some of the skepticism surrounding Howard. I don't think he's the top goalie in the league, but he's not the problem. Not by a long shot. Offensively, this team is on the outside looking in. 19th or 20th in the league in scoring, last I checked. You don't make the playoffs scoring fewer than 2.5 goals per game, and if you do, it's because your goalie carried you there. True, Howard has had issues recently in shutouts. But look at the Chicago game -- one SO goal in 5 attempts (by the Wings). You can pin that OT loss on Howard, but to me it's more evidence that this team's real problem lies elsewhere.
