    Brunner Contract Talks

I suggest you don't check on us here. He's gone. We let a young skilled natural goal scorer get away while we courted a buch of old guys. How foolish. Time will tell and I am quite sure it will haunt us.

    is anyone happy right now?

Ah, but this is the genius of Holland you guys are always talking about in Detroit, right? We let go a young Swiss guy (Brunner) whose first NHL experience ever has him top of the heaps in Wings playoff scoring. Obviously that is a bad sign. TIsk tisk. Too much scoring. And why would we want someone who can actually score in the playoffs when we have so many others? Why would we want a forward whose first inclination is to shoot the darn puck? No no, we'll be much better off with a 40 year old top six guy and some other center who up until today 75% of wings fan didn't even know existed. Yea, Holland is a real genius.

    Wings in on Alfredsson

What is it with the Wings and their obsession with old players past their prime? They are the equivalent of hockey MILFs. We have plenty of veteran leadership in Hank and Dats and they can actually still play! Out with the old, in with the new.

    Franzen Buyout?

Why doesn't Franzen get more of the tough Babcock love (Flip too)? He started a bit last year by publicly calling out Franzen on effort and that was kind of a shock (since Babs seemed to only do that for Hudler).

    Wow... Danny Cleary

Danny plays hard and, as we know all too well by now, guys like that are worth their weight in gold in the playoffs. He's had a string of injuries for years here and that's tough, but even without this I was happy with him. Yes, he was a little timid and cutesy a few times when he could/should have just taken the darn shot, but they guy just oozes effort. He comes to play, it is always the case. Others could learn from his level of dedication and effort.

The ugly elephant in the room

So, I guess most of you have never watched a Super Bowl since the Lions aren't in it? Wings fans = hockey fan? I guess not. LA will beat Chicago handily and it will increase the bitterness of our dregs to see them do it. Why? How? Because unlike Detroit, LA players and coaches alike will show up and show us how it's done.
  7. Only in Detroit can people find a way to be proud of failure. Then again, what else do we have? We had our proverbial foot on their throat and failed to finish it off. Failed. Failure. Failing. Get it? You all saw the games and if thats the kind of performance, coaching and effort you can be proud of (games 5 and 6 in particular), then I bet you probably Applebees is a gourmet restaurant, the new Dodge Dart is a BMW M series and Hazel Park is the Hamptons.
  8. I'm with you 100%. If we go down (and that is not certain) and we do it by playing smart and hard, I can live with that (barely). I'm going to go out on a limb here and say our boys have a dramatic flair (that ends up taking years off our life span) and will come out hard at the last minute, just like the season and the first round.

    Trade Smith ASAP!

All I can think about is what will this thread be like Wednesday night after the game? That's all that matters now.

    Good Luck Wings.

I guess we have a different definition of great, but if you are happy then you must be a more optimistic person, and probably a better parent and boss than I am! :-)

    # 51 JOKE

That's a really good point. I recall Yzerman pointed out how Flip played hurt one playoff season a while back without any whining or press. As Sherlock Holmes (and later Spock too) said, "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

    Good Luck Wings.

If the Wings go down playing well I can handle it and accept, but not this, not what we have seen the past two games. Whatever happens Wednesday let's hope the Wings, every single one of them, show up to play like professionals.

    Trade Smith ASAP!

I can't imagine any of us feel worse than he does, but I have to wonder how effectively he is being coached. There are some fundamental issues here that can be corrected. Play simple and smart. Either he is a complete ditz, nervous beyond belief or is not being coached and mentored very well.

Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?

Okay, this proves he's even stupider than I thought. He's nothing. All talk. His article and response is that of a fool.

Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?

This deserves a bump or something after tonights game going up 3-1. This is the most absurd sports writing fail and when I read it the first time I was mad, but now I just laugh and laugh and laugh.

Should we bring Tootoo in for game 4?

    NOOOOOOOOOOO!

    Russian Youth Hockey Brawl

When I played hockey as a kid in suburban Detroit you couldn't count the number of times some mom or dad would applaud a fight or dirty hit, some times resulting in screaming matches or worse with another parent in the stands. Same goes for jerk parents in little league baseball. There is no shortage of lousy parents in any country or sport.

Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?

This guy is not a true sports writer where being a shameless homer is considered unprofessional. His "article" is more like a bad email (or forum post) by an angry teenage. In short, he belongs more in a place like this than a real newspaper.

Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?

Someone has to tell these Hawks fans (and homer sports writers, truly the lowest form of reporter on Earth) that very rarely in the history of the league does a good record translate into a leisurely walk to Lord Stanley's Cup. Here's hoping to their learning the hard way, with bitterness, tears and whining all the way down.

Do We Really Need a New Stadium?

Building a stadium on the water front was stupid (as was the ren cen and more). Smart cities, cities that people enjoy and are vibrant have public spaces on their water front. Chicago is a perfect example. Say what you want about their hockey team and fans, but the entire lake front is a park and it is awesome. Yes, San Fran has a stadium on the water, but they have tons more space on the bay and places people want to go, such as tourists visiting Fisheman's Wharf. Tear the POS down, put another stadium in town, and build something on the river that people can use and enjoy year round. Hey, I got it, like another casino! There is some Detroit thinking for you.

    Ovechkin -- Laziest Play Ever

And that's why he will never hoist the Cup!

    Captain Z

Hank and Pavel lead by example in their play and character and that is the tradition established by Yzerman and Lidstrom. I'll take this kind of integrity over the whiney immaturity of Sidney Crosby, no matter how many times he scores, any day of the week. Just like Stevie and Lidstrom, when the twins retire, they will be acknowledged for their skill AND class.
