Agreed. If two of draft picks make the NHL Roster this draft is a success, plain and simple. If Mantha becomes a top-6 RW it's a good draft. If Mantha (or anyone else on this team for that matter) becomes a consistent 25-30 goal scorer or 70 point guy then it's a great draft. I think Janmark-Nylen might be a 3rd line guy down the road and I would love to see Wheaton crushing some Leafs into the boards in the future.

He's our kind of D-man coming off a down year and Vancouver might be looking to shed salary. But maybe they'll just buyout Ballard and/or Hamhuis

What I think we will see with players with these type of contracts is that they will traded before they retire. For example, let's say we decide not to use a compliance buyout on Franzen next year and down the road his play declines and he shows signs that he will retire before his contract is up... The Red Wings would try to trade him for a bag of pucks and possibly even trade him for another player in a similar situation. If he retires as a member of a different team, that team will not have the cap benefit that the Red Wings will have accumulated over the years and it will therefore not count against them. Taking Franzen in a trade would be a favor to the Wings in this scenario so we would have to reciprocate in some way.

If our 1st round pick could produce BOTH Gauthier and McCarron I would do it... but that's provided Mantha has already been taken...
