Its too bad he didn't pick Detroit, but this is a good choice for him. I would have been furious had he picked Toronto, a horribly run organization in shambles. Dallas is a good organization and a winning team. He made a smart choice, he picked team success, just not with us. I can live with this.

TSN panel was discussing the upcoming Wings-Stars series when Gino Reda remarked that the Wings were "manhandled" by the Ducks in last year's west final. This made me laugh pretty hard and wonder if Reda watched last year's west finals. Making a bad prediction on a series beforehand is one thing, but to grossly misinterpret a series that badly after the fact....wow.

TSN: Wings were "manhandled" by Ducks last yr
redwinger4747 replied to redwinger4747's topic in General
I have to disagree. I think the series was almost completely even. I thought we looked like the better team in games 3,4,5 and the Ducks looked like the better team in games 1,2,6. They went 2-1 in their "good games," Wings went 1-2, plus we lost 2 OT games. I'm not saying they shouldn't have won, they won fair and square. I'm just saying it was an even series that really could have gone either way. -

With a week off, Maltby should be completely healthy for the conference finals. Do you guys thing we should play him or leave Helm in the lineup? Personally, I think we should play him. Taking nothing away from Helm who has played well, Maltby just brings too much experience and grit to not have in the lineup. I know everyone will say don't mess with a winning lineup, but that shouldn't be followed blindly when improvements can still be made. What we shouldn't mess with are the top two lines. Both are on fire and need no tinkering. That doesn't mean we can't tinker with the 3rd line. Cleary has been struggling a little, not playing poorly, just struggling to get points. I'd like to put the Maltby-Draper-Cleary line back together. Why not since they were so great last year. Plus the Draper-Drake-Cleary line hasn't been outstanding. So I like Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Samuelsson Franzen Filppula Cleary Draper Maltby McCarty Drake Hudler Thoughts?

I think this thread needs to be expanded more to include the different situations involving how long it takes Dallas to close out the series. Overall, San Jose winning 4 straight to be the 3rd team to come back from a 0-3 deficit scares me the most but a Dallas team that beats San Jose in 5 games is not far behind. On the other hand, a Dallas team that gets up 3-0, then lets San Jose win 3 before they (Dallas) finally win the series in 7 games is not as scary as the Dallas team that won in 5 games.

I don't want him to play again. It's not worth it, our organization will take care of him financially. Just live your life Jiri, I can't bear to see you on a stretcher again.

Fischer's number is available to anyone.

Aurie's number was retired after he retired way back in the 1930's. At that time, there was a different standard for retiring numbers because the Wings hadn't yet had the true greats like Stevie and Gordie. Illitch refuses to officially retire it now, because Aurie is simply nowhere close to the same level as Howe, Yzerman, Lindsay, and the rest. He keeps it out of circulation to respect Aurie's family, but he understands that when you compare Aurie's accomplishments to Howe's, Yzerman's, Sawchuck's, and the rest, Aurie's number should not have been retired in the first place, especially considering that he's not even in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Thats all there is to it.

this can be merged with the other thread, admins.

Who was the player that backed up Budaj after Theodore left sick? Was that a skater who suited up or did they bring in a 3rd goalie? Don't teams have to stick to their 20-man group for the entire game?

A drink everytime they say an incorrect fact or stat. This happens so often it makes me sick. Like today, when interviewing Dan Cleary, the caption said "Fist Career Playoff Goal." Um, what about his 4 goals last year including an unforgettable penalty shot goal? Uggg....VS....

2007 playoffs, round 2: All 6 ESPN "experts" pick San Jose over Detroit. That's right, ALL SIX. Thats all I need to say.

That play was almost a thing a beauty. He fooled EVERYONE with the shot-pass and Fedorov had a wide-open net. I am right with you guys. That was the right play, no question.

This is pretty much spot-on.

Absolutely Nothing. Fantastic player, goes 100% every shift and wants to win more than anyone. Thats why he celebrates every time WASHINGTON scores, not just himself. Watch him maul his teammates after they score, then you will see that he is not cocky. That being said, I also like Crosby just as much.

Since Bertuzzi's season is now over, I thought we should review Holland's decision not to sign him to a 2-yr contract at 4 mil per year. Lets look at some stats from the regular season. Bertuzzi - 14-26-40 pts. Salary: 4.0mil To compare, lets look at some Red Wings with similar production: Cleary - 20-22-42 pts. Hudler - 13-29-42 pts. Samuelsson - 11-29-40 pts. Franzen - 27-11-38 pts. Filppula - 19-17-36 pts. Total combined salary: 4.6mil Now you tell me who is the better GM. Bertuzzi's playoff production of 0-2-2 pts. needs no comment.

I'm not sure if this is legit, but I have no problem with it. Sitting out half a season to "contemplate retirement" simply cannot be tolerated by the NHL, period. It doesn't matter how good the player is, or how much they have accomplished, professional athletes are under contract to do their jobs. Fans pay money to see those players play, not sit out for a while. Not to mention how unfair it is to get cap space because of this. The NHL has simply realized that this absolutely, positively CAN NOT ever be allowed to happen, so they are gunna come down really hard on Nieds to make sure no one else does it. If I was Bettman, I would fine him for every penny I could.

No, but Toronto is one of the worst run organizations in the NHL, and that is indisputable. It makes no sense why a player would want to go to such a poorly run team. If a player wants to go to a team that doesn't already have tons of talent, go to one that is at least on the rise, like Phoenix, or Chicago, or Edmonton. Toronto is going nowhere. I don't understand it myself, because as a hockey player, I'd rather play for a winning team right away, especially when its the same amount of money. He is an idiot if he signs with Toronto.

if he was injured, he would not have played the regular season finale. I think its that simple.

I wouldn't mind taking a kid to the game, I would just explain to them that they are not to repeat what they hear. If my kid did repeat what he heard, I would stop taking him until he was a little older. I still stand by my opinion: the complete and utter vulgarity and torment that we Michigan fans direct to the opposing team is what makes Yost truly special. I'll probably get blasted for this, but the way it pumps up the home team is like nothing you will ever experience at a sports game. The arena is small, only 6900 at best, with about a fourth of that students, so it is more of a community than a football game or even an NHL game. The team feeds off the students and the students feed of the team. Some of our chants are: "ULGY PARENTS!" whenever the opposing teams parent section cheers after an opposing goal "UGLY GOALIE!" whenever the opposing goalies takes off his mask "SEIVE, SEIVE, SEIVE, SEIVE, ITS ALL YOUR FAULT" (repeat, pointing at the opposing goalie) whenever Michigan scores "C'YA, CHUMP, DICK, WUSS, DOUCHEBAG, *******, PRICK, CHEATER, *****, *****, ****" (pointing to the opposing player who has just taken a penalty) ...and more when Michigan State comes, the real fun begins: "CAN'T READ, CAN'T WRITE" "SMOKE GREEN, SNORT WHITE" "IF YOU CANT GET INTO COLLEGE, GO TO STATE" (repeat) and, like the flyers fans, "f*** THE SPARTANS/BUCKEYES/IRISH" If you're ever in Ann Arbor, go see Michigan play MSU at Yost and if you sit in the student section, you will see how the energy is like nothing at any NHL arena.

Go to Michigan vs. Michigan State at Yost and you'll understand.
