I didn't like the idea of Weiss taking up a roster spot. 5 mil for a guy to sit in press box or play 10 minutes a night? We have too many forwards. Pulks and Jurco need to play. Possibly Larkin if he proves he is ready. No sense waiting a year to buy him out. From a personnel standpoint this makes sense. Sure it sucks we have Weiss on our cap for 6 years. But next summer if he were bought out he'd still be on the cap for another 4 years.

Weiss was a classic case of a second line player getting 1st line ice time on a bad team for years. I call it the Steve Sullivan syndrome. He played on bad Leaf teams and piled up points. On a good team in a lesser role he was useless. Weiss came here injured. He never really got it going here. Ray Whitney was signed here after Feds left . He never fit. But he went on to win a cup in Carolina. Maybe Weiss rebounds with a new team. But he can't skate like he used to which is what made him successful.
