Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread
romagoth replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Marchenko and Sproul are both righties. I would really hate to lose any of them without at least seeing what Sproul and Ouellet can do at the NHL level. I like Marchenko a lot as a defensive d-man who makes good decisions and doesn't turn the puck over. Unfortunately at this point it looks like Jensen won't get his chance in the NHL, at least with Detroit. He is the only one of the group who was never called up, even Sproul played one game in Detroit a couple of seasons ago. -
Looking ugly in GR after 7 games so far. Only 10 goals for and 24 goals against. It may be early, but this new coach has not been impressive, especially after the crap pulled by Bertuzzi against the Marlies the other day.

Wouldn't mind Fowler, Maroon, or Kadri. Not interested in Phaneuf or his salary. With that being said, it is probably just advanced scouting for an upcoming opponent. Holland is not exactly known as a trade king.
-
Chiarelli going to Edmonton is interesting. He might just be what they need to finally turn those young players into a cohesive unit. Or not...
-
If Howie requests a trade then all bets are off, let's get max value for him. Somehow though, I doubt he will do that. Reminids me a lot of Osgood where he was content sticking around and helping tutor the young up-and-comer (although to be fair, Ozzie was at the end of his career and had just won another Cup).
-
Yes, I really wanted us to sign him. Would have been fairly inexpensive and an upgrade over several of our D-men. Yep. Holland could surprise us, but I doubt it. Also don't want changes just for the sake of making changes either.

Well said. Everyone has a shelf life and I believe Babs has reached his in Detroit. It is extremely unusual for a head coach to not have a new deal in place at the end of the season, which tells me he is gone on July 1 (or whenever his contract officially expires).

Ferraro played well in the playoffs. Hope he stays with the Wings next year.

I kinda laugh at how fast people want to kick Howie right out of town. I have been a Mrazek fan since he was drafted and he is most definitely the future in goal for the Wings. However, Howie still has something left and I see nothing wrong with he and Petr the Great platooning for at least a year. It can only help both goalies and the organization. See how they both play next season and then determine if Howard should be traded at the deadline or offseason in 2016. Just my $0.02.

Don't forget Cleary. He has at least 3-5 years left of solid cabana sitting in him.
-
Yeah, see my other post where I responded to a correction to that number. Oh, and they weren't being snarky. Thanks. I would say that yes, making the playoffs every year IS defined as competitive. I have never heard of a sports franchise that wins championships every year, especially in this day of parity in pro sports.
-
Yeah that was actually rather lame. The ones for the Blues and Ottawa were kinda funny. This one, not so much.
-
Do'h...yeah I was thinking 8 teams per conference. Forgot the other part of that by adding both conferences. (I hate Michigan State)
-
Yeah, count me out. No thanks to the guy who publically told his GM to "just shut up". Stripped of the captaincy twice in San Jose. Plays like Houdini in the playoffs (disappears). Again, no thanks.
-
Yeah, Cole is probably done. Not for sure yet, but at his age with that type of injury (especially since it is recurring) it doesn't make much sense for him to risk his health at this point.

New to this board but been following it for awhile now. I just can't understand the amount of hyperbole from some people regarding Holland. We are in an age of absolute parity in the NHL, this isn't the 50's and 60's when Montreal won 5 straight Cups. Making the playoffs is the goal now, because as we have seen anything can happen once the playoffs start (just look at the Kings last year). The days of winning the president's trophy and rolling through the playoffs year after year are over. Holland has made mistakes but he has still done a remarkable job with what he has been given. Go ahead and tell that to the 22 teams that didn't make the playoffs this year. I am thankful for our playoff streak, it gives me more Wings hockey into the spring/early summer while other fans are watching....baseball.
