Babcock was hired to WIN - that's what 6 mil a year and the highest paid coach in the league by double means. Not admit that he's going to lose indefinitely. Its an i year contract. How much time? 5 years? Like the Oilers? 4 years? Like the Panthers? How much time can Mike Babcock SUCK before people expect him to win? I think he took the easy way out with his "it's going to take time" b.s. Look at what Jim Harbough did. He came in and reestablished winning IMMEDIATELY. There's a coach, for you. Babcock has only shown that he can succeed with ALL-STAR teams. I'm not impressed by that. Sorry. Right on. I just wanted to see how many coaches were in your pool to choose from. I only have yzerman era wings and on.

I would be so pissed if i was a leafs fan and the coach getting paid 6 mil a year says "its going to take time". Thats such an out by Babcock. If he's so good, why is it going to take time? He's supposed to fix it fast. Not turn Toronto into a development project. Lame. "Toronto has given me an opportunity to make an immediate impact, and thats what I plan on doing. This team is gonna be a winner now. Not in 5 years. Now." If he would have said that and followed thru, then I would have to believe the Babcock hype. But he's just confirming my belief - great all star team coach. BFD.

You yourself have called Athanasiou a top 6 player. What's wrong with him? Why does it HAVE to be Drew Miller?? "He sucks at everything else" is NOT a good reason to play somebody on the penalty kill. And why do we need to cut our 12 into top and bottom? Cant we have a top 12 instead of a top 6? Why would you play a bottom 6 guy over a top 6 guy at any point if their defensive abilities were equal?

Exactly!!! People act like Datsyuk and Zetterberg never killed a penalty. It's the opposite. When our pk was nails, we had 1 of those guys paired with a speedster. Now, our pk is blaugh, and everyone thinks Miller is indispensible because he blocks some shots. Woopie. How about drawing penalties with a killer fast 4th line instead of taking them?

And completely leave out accomplishments outside of the NHL ...

Howard looked so strong last night. The 4 posts helped, but he got a piece of all of those, so they were really saves. I am not a big Howard fan because he never focussed on improving his short comings - puck handling and consistancy. But i have noticed a distinct difference in his confidence playing the puck this year and in his focuinevery game. He seems like he has his swagger back, and that's huge. Simple thing, but on one of the pps last night, he played the puck up to a defenseman who only had to go back to the blueline and not the goal line. This may seeminsignificgoal, but it saves 5-10 seconds. And if done 2 or 3 times a night, gives us a potential extra 30 seconds of pp time in the offensive zone and not behind our net. That can be the difference between a win and a loss in the NHL. Today's NHL isnt the 83 Oilers NHL where goals were bountiful. Anyway, Howard has impressed me so far this year. Seems like he's out of the funk he fell into and put in some time with his stickwork during the offseason.

Buff is a pipe dream, but would be nice.
