His arbitration was scheduled for this morning I believe. What happens a lot in these cases are the parties agree arbitration wouldn't benefit either side, and a deal gets done in the hallway. Arbitration can cause resentment, and harm future negotiations. Nah they split the baby, so it was probably a pretty civil negotiation. -

We should be happy next year with a 1st round exit. That would be a hell of a coaching job by Blashill. You have to think this is going to give the Ilitches more of a reason to "promote" Holland, and bring back the Captain to open the arena. They need some type of product to drive sales beyond the first year... -

We have a few guys in the system that project to being a 3 or 4. Cholowski has the potential to develop into a #2. If we were to stay at 16 I would have wanted Fabbro. -

Chychrun is not projected to be 1st pairing material which caused him to drop from 2ND overall to 16. It would have been a good trade to drop down 4 spots & pick up an extra second without dumping Datsyuks contract. -

Whether we like it or not we absolutely have to sign a center. If Stamkos says "no thanks" Nielson is the next best option. Nielson + Ladd/Lucic/Okposo + Brower/Martin would fill a lot of holes. If we don't sign Helm we have enough room to add 3 of the above names. -

I wonder if having the two, second round, picks might allow KH to take a flyer on Day. Then best forward available with the second.

Yeah I would have rather went with Gauthier or Jones in that spot, but Cholowski could develop into a nice 2nd pairing. He may not be done growing either, plus he is going to a good program who will develop him properly.

Holland is riding on the reputation Scotty built for him. He not only hasn't made any splash trades, but he hasn't signed a good contract either in the last 8 years. It is going to be more of the same until he either retires, or the Ilitches fire him. -
I could be completely wrong, but his size and skating give me pause. If Bean isn't available I would go with McLeod/Bellows/Jones, or trade down for an extra 2nd/3rd.
