1/18 GDT - Red Wings vs Bruins - 8:00 PM EST

It is truly amazing how being given a man advantage actually LOWERS this team's level of play Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

1/16 GDT: Montreal Canadiens at Red Wings, 3:00 EST

6 in a row from October 17-27 (to answer my own question). Doubt that streak is sniffed for a little while Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Great to see two in a row against two of the best teams in the East. Coreau with another egg. Only negative I take away from this one is the fact that this team continues to play like the Harlem Hockey Globetrotters. Too many "additional", unnecessary, flashy passes, especially on the PP. Just put the thing on net. When was the last time we saw 3 in a row?!?! Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Nice to see some persistence. Happy to see em tie it up but honestly this game should be like 6-2 Detroit right now Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

I bet the wings miss the net more during pre-game warmups than any other team in the league

What would you rather see happen this year..

Not sure how that could be seen as "boring". Not to mention, a PIT-CHI SCF would likely cause me to stop watching hockey a week early. Puke. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Pilgrimage to Detroit - Must Do Things

My God, The Post was fantastic pre-Wings game. Phenomenal divey atmosphere, replaying classic DRW games on little 19" tube TVs. Last time I went I think we watched the 3rd period of Stevie Ys blue-liner against Gretzky and the Blues back in the 95-96 WC semis. Unfortunately, The Post is now gone. [emoji22]. It's now called "The Drink Hall" I believe. I've never been. As for those lobbying for a trip to Grand Rapids, I 100% support this move. I've lived in Grandville for the past 7 years and moving to West Michigan from metro-Detroit (Novi) is the best decision I ever made. Van Andel Arena is only a 10 minute drive and Griffins tickets are considerably reasonable Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

01/04 GDT : Red Wings vs Ducks : 10:30 PM ET

You make a good point about the Lions. Less games, less opportunity. That being said, I still feel as though Little Caesars will have a good draw night in and night out based on, like you said, the novelty of seeing a brand new arena. And I agree there's no doubt that will begin to "wear off" if the team continues to struggle, but I don't think ticket sales will be an issue for at least all of next season. And to your "Hockeytown" point, the same can be said for all metropolitan areas with more than just a hockey team (such as San Jose, Columbus, etc). Hockey, unfortunately, is and will always be the least popular professional sport in the country. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

As bad as this season has been, and will likely continue to be, Detroit still holds the "Hockeytown" moniker. While watching a downtrodden hockey team is certainly foreign territory for many of us (I was 5 years old the last time they missed the playoffs), I can absolutely guarantee you there will be no problem filling the seats at LCA. This is still one of the most passionate fan bases in sports and a new, state-of-the-art arena is a very enticing idea. Look at the first couple years at Ford Field and how bad those Lions teams were. It's definitely "bad timing" though, considering this is how the final season at the Joe will be remembered. Centennial Patches

Long has been the norm for both teams and leagues to commemorate anniversary seasons with a patch located somewhere on the jersey/sweater. Although I think the logo used for the NHL's 100th anniversary is fantastic, the league's decision for all teams to place the patch on the sleeve below the number is absolutely terrible. It looks like a jumbled mess. I believe the left side of the chest, opposite the captain/alternate letter would look so much better. It's even worse for goaltender uni's. In the most glaring example, the Jackets wore their navy blue alternate sweaters last night against the Oilers. Check out Bobrovsky's patch that splits the white accent trim. What a nightmare. Just not a very clean look. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Next 8 games may crush this team.

No power play goals on the road since a week and a half before Halloween. Yikes. Maybe thats why Steve Ott was on a PP unit today. Hahahahaha. Definitely interested to see how this trip goes. Obviously would've loved a win, but after seeing this team battle back from down 4-1 late in the 3rd on Sunday and give themselves a shot in OT was certainly a pleasant surprise as well as something we've seen very little of this year. Just nice to finally see some actual fight outta these rims. Also looking forward to watch Anthony Mantha play professional hockey for a long time. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Mrazek's giving up 3.11 a game, 7th worst in the league. So whatever. Honestly, with the amount of holes this team possesses, it really doesn't matter who's in net. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

And I base a lot of that on his first start against Pittsburgh and tonight's game. He may have lost both but he still impressed me in those starts Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

I never said he's the only Detroit goaltender not receiving defensive support. But based strictly on the eye test, he's been better than Mrazek (in a small sample size of course). I just think he's done enough to earn the lion's share of starts moving forward and it'll be his job to lose Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk

I feel like Coreau played well all night. The final score doesn't tell the story of the game for me. As usual, defense left him out to dry all night. Too many defensive zone turnovers, too many odd-man rushes, and I think he handled them as well as could be expected. 4th start of his career, in that setting. Pretty impressive. The OT winner is really the only goal I put exclusively on him. This is probably slightly knee-jerk is, but the way Petr has played, Coreau is my starter going forward. 22. While this question likely has an obvious answer, there's no question Mrazek and Howard have been hung out to dry all year. That being said, it truly is mesmerizing to watch this team not only struggle to find the back of the net, but to watch what appears to be some sort of shooting epidemic. I don't remember ever witnessing a team literally scared to shoot the puck. 3rd to last in the league with 28 shots per game and it seems like for the last week, they play about 10 minutes of the 1st period in the defensive zone and let the opposing goaltender take a nice little half period cat nap. It's not as if this team lacks offensive talent. But why is a defenseman not named Brent Burns second on the team in both points and goals scored? Why is your worn down, 36 year old captain leading the team in scoring? The offensive woes of this team are staggering. I understand slumps and struggles (sheahan, Tatar, Nyquist), but as offensive minded forwards, the only way to get yourself out is to continue putting pucks on net. Which, for some reason, no one seems to want to do.

    Ken Holland's Achievements

I don't disagree that the last 8 years have been little more than a straight and narrow focus on a meaningless streak. And I also feel as though a front office shakeup could certainly do some good for this franchise. But I also feel as though some people are going way out of their way to place unwarranted blame.
