How many players from Team USA would have made Team Canada?
Creasemonkey replied to GONGSHOW HOCKEY's topic in General
None, as they're all US born. Isn't there enough glow in Canada to bask in? Nevermind that the teams went 1-1 in the tournament and the second game was close enough that either team could have taken it at any second, let's talk about how inferior the US team was. Christ. -
Oh, how I laughed. As soon as I saw what Talbot did I got the giggles. He indeed swatted like a little playful kitty, and had it coming. Shanny in his feistiest days would've taunted him in the same fashion I'd bet. Lots of players would.

I know he plays hockey and absorbs checks and such, but I'm pretty sure if that guy had really wanted to shove a drunken, unexpecting Dan Cleary to the floor, he could have. He doesn't push him that hard, and I don't see a look of "I'm going to rip your head off now" on Cleary's face afterward. Drunk guys get touchy feelie with each other sometimes, move along folks, nothin to see here.

Brendan Burke, son of Brian Burke, killed in auto accident
Creasemonkey replied to a topic in General
Nobody should have to bury their child. I feel for his parents. -
Just a reminder folks, NBC broadcasts their games in 5.1 audio as well so if you're using a 5.1 system unplug the center speaker and Doc, ****** Canoe, and that homer Eddie O. all fall silent. You're sitting inside the arena watching the game practically, with sound effects for commercial breaks.

The point you're missing is there might not BE a Stanley Cup run. There might not even be playoffs. I've watched this guy go from hotter than hell to cold as ice at the drop of a redliner and over and over again, it's the only consistent thing he's done his whole career, and I'm not surprised in the least Babcock has reservations starting him. You just never know which Osgood is going to show up. I typically refrain from bashing the guy but if he's going to whine to the media, he's asking for it in a big, big way.
-
That's the thing, he's running his mouth to make excuses for a game he hasn't even played yet. "We'll see how it works out." What the hell is that?
-
If he's going to keep bitching about it, I hope they trade his ass. Howie's playing lights out, either outplay him or shut your festering gob, you ***!

5-2 Detroit. Anger prevails over bulls*** calls.

For s***s and giggles I went to NHL.com and searched for "Burrows". Four links came up, all relating to this story, yet all the links were mysteriously broken.

I get the feeling Malik may eventually regret being quite so harsh, as the article comes off a little like a drunk dial. I'm with him on the idea of "just win some damn games already", but to go off the deep end like that is another thing.

Last night I watched the final seconds, the final save, the celebration, and the handshakes, but I stopped short of watching Bettman's smug face as he handed the cup to his favorite son. Couldn't stomach that. However I wasn't kicking myself..."Oh no, Draper and Lidstrom don't get a thumb ring. Big deal." I told myself. But this morning, I'm sick. Angry. There's a little confusion in it. Yes, the point of the game is to score more goals than the other team, and the Pens did so four times this series, but I cannot shake the feeling that the Wings beat themselves. Injuries, fatigue, hangover...mere excuses for just not trying hard enough. Toughest loss I've ever watched, I think. I don't care how many other championships there are. That was game seven of the Stanley Cup Final and they just didn't try hard enough. The only consolation for that is time, the promise of a decent season next year, and perhaps a couple more beers tonight.

I like-a da fights. I figured on it being bad timing as well, but as has already been pointed out, the Wings scored again, the duck did not. Kopy's got a shiner to show for it, series is best of three now with home ice to our team, I'm saying why the hell not? Good show, Kopy! Thanks for trying! (Why am I the only one that remembers that when speaking about the duck, it must be lowercase and non-plural?)

When they were getting blown out 5-0? No. That's hilarious. Put down the pipe and just walk away man.

TSN.ca Wings next play San Jose February 25th at home.

I give him 3 games. Chelios is slow and he rides a bike in the sauna. I doubt Lemieux's got the same conditioning.
-
Ducks are banged up tonight, unless Giggy steals one the Wings don't have much of an excuse not to bounce back tonight. From TSN:
-
Officially signed. 800k (of which he'll get about 400k) TSN

If you wanna crown em, then crown their ass!

Interesting note from that page: against the Leafs, we're 333-333-93.

3 games is a ******* joke. An absolute ******* joke. I'm all for big hits, but that one was completely pointless on an icing play.

Somebody should let him know that our owner also owns Little Caesars, one of the few businesses likely to actually benefit from this recession.

They're (81+13) starting to look like brothers from another mother already. Last night was a thing of beauty with those two. Holmstrom just makes mayhem for them to work through, and sometimes he's open for the slam dunk passes. He's not "elite" like they are so to speak, but he does his job perfectly on that line, and he belongs there. Powerplays? I'd like to see some 40-13-81. I suspect if we're behind in the third in some games, we might see that line get some shifts 5 on 5 as well As for the second line, without Franzen I see the production dropping unless Hudler or whomever ends up there really steps up their game, which is kind of like saying the sky is blue cause Stein has remained his late-last-season-monster self. Sammy's got great velocity on his shot and all, but his aim usually makes for an easy save. He's got 8 points...7 of which are assists. Maybe he's trying more for rebounds than goals, I dunno. I won't go as far as most and say "he's useless", but watching him play rarely do I say or think to myself "nice job, Sammy." The third and fourth lines don't seem to be really set in stone, they're getting mixed up all the time. But whatever Babcock throws out there seems to do a decent job. No complaints, essentially. Tiny gripes, yes, but with this record in Babcock I trust.

The people who point out that we're "going nuts" are just as bad as the people "going nuts". At least we're having some sort of discussion. You're just bitching. Which one adds more to a hockey based forum? For the record, I'm not going nuts at all. Somebody says "they're talking about this rule" and I say "that'd be stupid". Many people agree. No issue, nobody's got raised blood pressure except you, it seems.

Well heaven knows I wouldn't want Roberto Luongo to retire. Yeah, I pretty much figured that one out without your help. That rule would still be dumb.
