Honestly, I never had a problem with the guy, but his time has passed. Hopefully the next Bertuzzi doesn't come with a curse, and can be half as productive as Todd was in his prime.

2 years, 6M. Get 'er done Kenny!!!!! Hopefully Holland's too busy working on the Cleary fine print to actually go out and address the teams need to become more than a retirement home. That would be awesome,,,,,, FML

Overpay on a one year deal if you must Kenny. You’ve got the cap space. But there's no way Monster should get a two year deal with Mrazek out of waiver options in 14-15.
-
I'd much rather Michalek.

6'2" 163lbs? Dude would have to jump around in the shower to get wet.

Why not? Most everyone else in this thread has gone absolutely bonkers and run off to some fantasy zone. Figured I’d just join in. But, if you could pull your chest feathers in for a minute, you’ll see that, from an organizational standpoint, Yzerman for Florida’s pick in 2002 : Bouwmeester is comparable to trading Zetterberg for Florida’s pick in 2014: Ekblad Except we actually know that Bouwmeester at least turned into a top 4 D-man.
-
That’s fine. If it’s doable in that way. I just have a hard time stomaching the overzealousness of people who get all horned up for prospects to the point where they’d trade our friggin captain. It’s sensationalism, and knee-jerky, and reeks of fan-boy fantasy. But I guess that’s what happens when you haven’t had a top 5 draft pick since 1990.
-
If only we had traded Yzerman in 2002 for that draft’s top rated d-man: Jay Bouwmeester. We’d be ******* set right now.
-
Zetterberg for Ekblad? If so, you cray cray.
-
Doesn't change the fact that there is probably 0.5% chance that Ottawa deals with Holland. Sorry to ruin everyone's capgeek armchair GM fun times.
-
That dream turns into a nightmare in two years when every single D-man on the roster is still under contract and we have Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, and Marchenko ready to go.

Holland should bite on a two year deal. It's ideal. -
Why? If you sign a veteran back-up, you have P-mraz ready when both goalies inevitably get hurt. If Mrazek's your back-up, you have McCollum or Paterson in GRs. You want to call one of those guys up to start a game in the NHL? Same goes for the defence. Leave those kids in GRs as long as you can. How awesome is it that if any D-men get hurt, you can depend on Ouellet, Backman, Marchenko, and Sproul to be legit quality replacements?

I might be wrong, but Lidstrom's number 5 doesn't seem to be there with the other retired numbers

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/06/detroit_red_wings_hoping_to_si.html When it's framed like this (see below quote), things seems more positive

How hard can it be? LGWers make awesome signings and trades on capgeek everyday. What’s left? Booking hotel rooms?

This is why Holland will sign Callahan, Niskanen, and trade for Kesler. Solidify the leadership group for the next 10 years.
-
And Jarnkrok will win all the trophies and score all the goals for Nashville.

I would have endured it, if I knew before hand that I’d get to hear him cry tonight. -

If I was allowed to ask one question to one famous person, in private, I’d be tempted to ask Justin Williams how he mentally prepares for game 7s. -

Cue Justin Williams -
Well, Kenny a few choices to avaid the log jam in 3 years, IMO: 1. Trade some valuable prospects now for a legit D man. I'm talking Yandle, Vlasic, Erhoff, Edler, whomever. 2. Sign two veteran D men (Boyle, Greene, Mitchell, Morris, Zidlicky, etc) to short term, two year deals. There's an extremly good chance that two of Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, Matchenko, or Jensen will be NHL calibre players. Maybe great ones. 3. Sign Niskanen to a long term deal. This locks up 5 D for the foreseable future (Kronwall, Ericsson, Dekeyser, Smith, Niskanen). Sometime in the next two years, trade some D prospects for a top six forward and let the remaining D prospects duke it out for the last two spots. In some ways it's amazing to have this many tradeable assets in the system. But then I think about what Poille was able to get out of Holland for Legwand and then I cry when I think about what Yandle or Kesler would cost.
