It’s true. He really is. Anyone that’s seen a QMJHL game knows this. It’s also a crapshoot, trying to project how a players Q stats might project to the NHL, heck, even the AHL. Look at Jurco vs Nestrasil vs Frk in the Q. They all had similar numbers. Jurco has been, and most likely will be, the best pro. But Mantha, who has numbers that are eclipsing those guys, is a can’t miss prospect IMO. Provided he continues to work on his defensive game.

Don't get me wrong, I"m by no means a Mule basher. But even if he scored two hat tricks last night I'd still trade him straight up for Edler. Edler's having an off year, and is on an arc similar to Bouwmeester's while he was with Calgary (great defensemen, underperforming). Look what happened there! The other thing? Edler's only 27. All moot though because Gillis would not make that trade.

He's reffering to the young guys who are playing over veterans. Not the veterans (like Cleary) that are scratched. He's saying, I'm not going to trade Nyquist, Sheahan, Tatar, or Jurco, because they are all better or will be better than the forwards on the market. He's said this before as well, before Sochi.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you have said, but how have picks been "devalued". Can you elaborate? Just because the cap is going up over the next three years does not mean that clubs don't need to continue to draft well. Maybe what you're saying is that Holland can afford to trade picks away to land a Weber-type guy because we can safely fit him in under the cap, when it goes up?

It has nothing to do with balls: then vs now That trade was easy for Holland. 1st rounders meant nothing to Detroit in the pre-cap era. In fact, Buffalo basically gave Hasek to the Wings. Plus the Wings were elite. Contenders year in and year out.So when a team like Buffalo does the classy thing and gives Hasek a chane to win, he goes to either Detroit, Colorado, Jersey. Those other teams had Roy and Broduer. So...... Holland is way more reluctant to part with draft picks or prospects of any kind these days. Why? Because he has lost his balls? Or because they are far more valuable now than they were back then?

He did acquire Chelios and Hasek. He did not acquire Shanahan.

I think Sweden's going to win gold. Just a weird hunch. I don’t think Lundqvist can play any better than Quick or Gudlevskis but I think they will generate more offence, especially from the back end. They are a smart team with lots of veteran savvy that knows how to win on big ice. But we’ll see.
