Would you trade Jimmy for a top pairing dman?
rick zombo replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
The thread he's referring to is the "Jets" thread here on LGWs. The one where they fired the coaches. The one where we're all talking trades. The phenomenon he's referring to could very well be that you don't want to trade Nyquist and Patterson. -
Winnipeg Jets relieve coach Claude Noel and assistant Perry Pearn

Serious? I love Nyquist, but I'd trade him and Patterson both straight up for Wheeler. -

I'd do that too, without blinking. Unfortunately, it does nothing to make space cap-wise. You'd be taking on 9M + and all you'd be losing off the books is whatever chicken feed Nyquist makes. Maybe in the offseason, when the cap goes up and we have some useless contracts coming off the books. -

Wheeler or bust!!!!!! -
1. Should have taken Seguin over Hall 2. Should have taken Landeskog over RNH It's tough because of the pressure to take the other players. They would have been better off with the #2 pick. I think Hemsky and Ganger get dealt this year and McT needs to swap Hall, Eberle, or RNH for an equally skilled defensmen. How about Hall for Gardiner?

OMG it's an Orc!!!!!!

Except Tatar is playing for Slovakia in the real Olympics.

Honestly, I'd be most worried about Canada's goaltending. I think the Team Canada management has a lot of faith that the D's ability to move the puck will make up for a lack of team speed.
-
Didn't see this posted anywhere else: Jurco and Tatar are both on the Slovak roster. That makes 10 Red Wings going to Sochi. I think. Datsyuk Howard Zetterberg Alfredsson Franzen Kronwall Ericsson Monster Jurco Tatar

That’s a fantasy as well, I think. I don’t see The Wings sucking that much.
-
I completely agree with this. The Wings are never sellers, but if it came to that, I’d like it to be exciting, from the fan/fantasy angel. But yes, beggars can’t be chosers and you have to do what’s best for Alfie if, god help us, that scenario happens.

For me, there's nothing sexy about missing the playoffs and getting a 2nd round pick from Boston for Alfie. That's essentially 50th overall or something. I'd hope that if Quincey was worth a first even in Holland's demented state, and Gaustad is worth a first, that we could squeeze a first round pick out of some GM if we could work up a bidding war frenzy.

You’re saying that the Leafs players are “cooler” and more “hip” than Wings players? Yes. The Leafs came off differently because Phanuef, Lupul, and Kadri are all members of Radiohead. It had absolutely nothing to do with editing. Kadri’s getting his car with Jai Paul’s super-slick “BTSTU” song playing in the background (even though Kadri probably hasn’t even heard of Jai Paul) vs Helm, Smith, Dekeyser, and Abby eating ribs and fish tacos? Or how about Phanuef, selecting his suit and bow tie to epic synth M83-style music? How ******* funny is that? Knowing Dion is part cave-man. That’s all HBO image-crafting and editing. It has way more to do with their idea of presentation than it does with The Leafs players being hip vs the Wings being boring.

I think it has more to do with tradable assets not named Zetterberg, Datsyuk, or Kronwall. Plus no one wants to trade a useful defencemen like Ericsson. And no one wants to trade the kids. That leaves Howard and Franzen as the Wing’s most valuable trade pieces. For the record, I think trading Howard is a bad idea.

Which he might waive to play with some fellow country-men that aren’t twin mutants.

gdt 12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)
rick zombo replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
I’m pretty sure that Sheahan is comfortable playing on the wing and that Cleary is comfortable in a suit. Problem solved. -

Tatar and Nyquist have spots now, regardless. But Jurco looks like he’s ready to be an impact player. It will be very interesting to see what happens to him when the team gets healthy. -

A few things: 1. Terrible officiating 2. Pavel effin Datsyuk 3. Jurco - Sheahan - Tatar (future’s bright) -
Agreed. Alfie is elite. Which means, in hockey, he’s practically ageless. Sure he’s 41, but who wouldn’t take a 41 year old Lidstrom on this team right now? And yes, those 27 pts in 32 games are a big deal. He’s almost a point-per-game player this year with a team that’s struggling offensively. And it’s not like he was playing with Datsyuk right out of the gate. He was playing with a struggling Weiss and Franzen early on, and has played with Helm and Abdlekader as well. I know that he’s piling up some points on the PP. But still, pretty good year for the guy so far. Wait until he wins the cup

Carlyle had those guys. Babs had Giggy, Kariya and mostly a bunch of plugs.
-
Bummer. But this means Tootoo will probably play? DeKeyser's been cleared and is ready to go for Saturday.
-
Lines @ today's practice (per Khan): Bertuzzi - Datsyuk - Jurco Sheahan - Helm - Alfredsson Miller - Anderson - Tatar Eaves - Glendening - Cleary
-
Best. GDT. OP. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Is obviosuly a coaching thing. If Bowman was still here he'd most definitely play Zetterberg, DeKeyser, Helm, Nyquist, Franzen, Howard, Abdlekader, and Weiss. But Babcock is dead set on that 3rd line of Cleary-Glendening-Eaves, so it looks like those other guys will just have to wait for their opportunity to play.

I wonder if he aggravated his groin vs Pittsburgh when that big-lipped POS neanderthal hauled him down on the breakaway.
