Has Mikael Samuelsson finally played his last game for Detroit?
rick zombo replied to Nev's topic in General
Sammy's in tonight because Nyquist is out. Happy now?????!!!!!!! -
Yeah. I wasn't trying to come down on Lucic. Just having a laugh at the whole thing. Kudos to him for keeping his cool. He's actually a pretty disciplined guy. For a gigantic maniac, he's done a pretty decent job of self-control/staying out of trouble in the NHL. Relatively speaking.

This is good for a chuckle: http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/12/16/5217490/exclusive-leaked-scene-from-hbos-24-7

Wings muscle? Please refer to helpful visual breakdown:

Lucic sounds like a drunk, stupid, 25 year old man. But he looks like Conan the Barbarian. “Do you know who you’re ******* with!!???”

Can't remember the last time we were this pathetic

Gawd_DAMN!!!!!!!! 2 guys vs 3 guys? I’d hope so -
Sheahan ain’t gonna replace the Mule’s offence. I think he’s going to be a “real” 4th liner in the future. Think the opposite of what Cleary and Samuelson are now. But like future_nyquist just said ^ he should have gotten the call at least one of the 15 times Glendening’s been up. It’s interesting to see that they had to think about Jarnkrok vs Sheahan for the call-up, and a bit depressing that Emmerton was in the mix as well. Per Helen “Quincey Sux” St James’ twitter:

LA looked like Kings during their last east coast swing. A hungry team that’s never won, like St Louis or San Jose maybe? No one in the east, that’s for sure.

Mule’s out. Unreal.
-
Ericsson just had himself 2 solid minutes of hockey there

Per Official Detroit Red Wings (via Facebook) Sorry, no link. My Interwebs are partially broken. Glenfiddich most likely to replace Emmerton on the forth line. I wonder if Eaves is in for Sammy, Cleary or Bert? edit: link http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/red-wings-will-be-without-howard-for-2-4-weeks-wings-recall-eaves-glendenin

But how do you really feel?

Eaves and Glendening Recalled: Emmerton Sent Down
rick zombo replied to rick zombo's topic in General
That's a poor choice of words. Emmerton's only in the line-up because of injuries. He most certainly has no future in Detroit and that's generally understood by everyone. You want to talk love affairs? There are more obvious guys to target. -
I can't remember the last full season the Wings were relatively healthy.

Another Winter Classic for a Wings back-up?
-
Exactly. Or a higher-end veteran in the mold of Boyle or Timonen that can play in the top four and provide some "real" offence. Someone old enough (late 30s) to warrant a maximum deal of two years. In two years, Sproul, Ouelett, and Backman could all be ready

Qunicey, on the other hand..........................

Well said. Also, Howard hasn't let in any really terrible goals either. And other than a game or two, hasn't gotten completely lit up. At the same time Monster's had some scary moments with rebound control and positioning. But Gustavsson is finging ways to help the team win, and Howard isn't. That's where this skewed impression of Howard's performance is coming from.

Z-Dats-Franzen Nyquist - Helm - Alfredsson Abby - Weiss - Tatar Miller - Andersson - Old useless guy (take your pick) Edit: those two bolded lines are 2a and 2b. Whatever line is playing well on ant given night, gets the most icetime.

Giant thumbs up.

Exactly. Even when monster was coming off bad times in Toronto, he still got a two year deal from Kenny. The way I see it, Holland has three options: 1. Sign a stop-gap backup for 1 year. Overpay if you must. Might be tough to find someone that will sign for one year. 2. Make Mrazek your backup next year. Not Holland's style. But this is the best, headache free option 3. Do something crazy like re-sign Gustavsson for 2-3 years or another UFA for 2-3 years, and create an epic problem when Mrazek is out of waiver options. Holland will probably do this, and he'll pay for it in less than 2 years.

I agree. It always seems like the cap goes up when the Wings don't really need it to (next year) and isn't high enough when they need it the most (2009). All the increased cap will do is make it easier for teams like Minnesota to add another mega-contract for a guy like Vanek or the Hawks to keep stacking the core, etc. A lower cap would benifit the Wings by not helping out the other teams. As a side note: what are they going to do with Monster? Money won't be an issue. Neither will his performance. Term's going to be a problem. He'll be looking for at least a two year deal, and this will be a problem. Mrazek would be out of waiver options in the second year of Monster's contract. Ideally, the Wings sign their back-up for one year. That way there will be a spot for Mrazek in 2015-16.

If this is true, Kenny will have zero cap trouble next year. The problem is though, he needs to manage the roster so there's room next year for Sheahan, Ferraro, Callahan, and Almquist, room the following year for Jurco and Mrazek, and room in 2015-16 for Sproul, Ouelett, Jarnkrok and Pulkinnen. Assuming they all make the transition. Then we have Mantha, who could make the team out of camp next fall, or anytime after that. Kenny would have the money to sign (for example) Stastny/Vanek/Gaborik/Callahan/Phaneuf, whatever. But these guys will all want long term deals and unless they buy out Mule/Weiss, and trade someone like Andersson, there's going to be a log-jam up front that will make this year seem like a dream.

No way Ouellet is on the team next year as a #5-7. They'll want him and Sproul both playing big minutes in GRs.
