The problem is, I think Babcock has to give the vets a chance. He can't start the year by sitting Sammy (3M), Bert (2M), and a freshly signed Cleary (1.7M or whatever). That's almost 7M of pizza money in the press box. That does not make Holland look good at all. Bad signings. Falls on Holland. Also, Babcock can't play Nyquist because Holland sent him to GRs because of self-induced roster jam and cap crunch. Again, Holland's bad. Come playoffs, when there's no roster or cap restrictions, I guarantee that Nyquist will be playing and Tatar should be playing. If they're not, then you can blame Babcock. Everything you said about adjustments and special teams is spot on, by the way.

Cory Emmerton and Petr Mrazek sent to Grand Rapids

Tatar, Sammy, Bert. The good, the bad, and the ugly. -
The GDT is full of it. IMO, "flashes" are all Frazen has left. I hope I'm wrong.

I hear you. You kind of started it though. Quouting me in that way at the end of your original post was smartassy. Or at least, I took it that way. Anywho, I never said it was all Weiss, I was just pointing out to the Weiss bashers that, in my opinion, he's done more than the Mule. The reason I made my original comment was because people were ripping on Weiss and I think the real problem on ine #2 is Franzen. Are you saying that Franzen's play isn't bad, is just sort of bad, is decent, is good, you love him? What?

I understand this move. No sense recalling Goose to play him on the forth line. To me, this basically spells the end for Emmerton. If it was a roster-compliance move, Glendenning would being staying in GR. This is a "get Emmerton the hell off the team move". To me, this move was made because it takes the least amount of sand/effort from coaching/management. It's easy to demote him. I think Emdog's the least of the problems on the bottom six, but I guess it's a start? Wake me when they have the guts to admit their mistakes and do something about the pensioners club. -
I'm just trying to shine my light. It's easy, like I said earlier, to blame Weiss and Alfie for that second line puke-fest. Especially when Filpulla and Brunner have started strong. But the problem with our secondary scoring should fall square on Franzen. He's the common link between this year and last year. After Z and Datsyuk, he should be the guy, and he hasn't been, and still isn't. You're right Doc. My bad. He did do one thing. He was skating towards the net, and was too lazy to stop. Any other great Mule moments so far that you care to point out? Or am I still (mostly) correct?

1. meh 2. makes the second line worse 3. might get Alfie going 4. fuuuuuuuux Disagree. He had a terrible game, but unless turning 41 makes you go brain dead, I don't think his age had much to do with it. His two mistakes were on the power play, standing still, at the blueline, and they were both mistakes of the mind, not the body. -
I feel like one of Dr Rahmani's patients (pre laser surgery) could watch the video from last night's game and immediately punch a Franzen jersey. He destroyed every play.

It's Franzen. I swear to god. I know it's easy to blame the new guy. I don't think I've seen Franzen shoot the puck yet this season. If I was a 6-3, 220 lb winger, that could whip lasers from the hash marks, I'd be TAKING the puck there and firing bullets instead of playing on the outside all.friggin.game. Don't forget, Franzen played with Datsyuk and Z alot last year and he sucked all over the place too. Edit: Weiss got an OT winner by driving the net, and nearly scored last night on a similar play. I have yet to see Franzen do anything. Srsly. I'm not exagerating.

They HAVE to buy him out. 7 more years of this bum yachting around the ice? No thanks. It's infuriating to watch him play. I always cut the big oaf some slack in the past because "yada yada playoff beast only a 3.9M cap hit yada yada". But no more. He's setting a bad pace on that 2nd line, and a toxic example for the rest of the team. To me, Franzen's play is the key reason why the Wings get accused of not bringing it night-to-night. You throw him on either of the two tops line and "presto", they suck: no cycle, no drive, no north-south game to speak of. Weiss wil be fine. At least he's a digger. Alfredsson will be fine. You can't put Franzen anywhere. I actually think they will buy him out, by the way. Unless he scores 30 - 40 goals this year. I'll chew off my own scrotum if he does.

No need. His contract is up and even Holland won't be crazy enough to bite that rotten apple.

The good news is that they can now use that 2nd buyout on Franzen next summer......

Filppula to Tampa 5 yr $5 million
rick zombo replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Maybe the common denominator is ol' sucky-ballz Franzen? Maybe Filpulla is playing with wingers who give a rat's ass, and maybe Weiss is now shackled with the pirouetting floater. /rant -
I know it's early in the season, but it seems like Wings fans are getting trolled. This s*** storm of an excuse for four lines? All of this baggage Holland insists on keeping and Babcock insists on playing. And to rub it all in, Filpulla had 2 goals tonight.

Always love looking to the future. Cool article. There are inherent flaws in though: 1. There's no way that Detroit doesn't draft someone between now and then, that will make this roster. 2. Where's Cleary?
-
Man. Is it just me, or does no one on the ice seem to care that Kopecky got blind-sided by Nash? It almost looks like the linesman wanted to high five him. LOL
-
Pretty sure Bertuzzi and Samuelsson were healthy enough to play. Maybe not 100%.

The East will be a dog fight all year for those 8 playoff spots. Going 0-3 right off the bat? Panic time. The Flyers have much bigger issues than the coach. It will take them a few years to recover from some of Holmgren's dumb-ass moves. Some NHL team just got lucky. Laviolette will have a job before the year's over.

Canada: a place where politicians don't go on strike. I kid. 1. CBC dudes are great. But yes, they have to carry bias towards the Canadian teams. It's funny because Habs fans get pissy because of the Leafs ****- fest. Bias within bias I guess. 2. Might I suggest the raspberry jelly filled donut to any Timmy Ho virgins out there? 3. I'm pumped that this game is on at 2 on a Monday.

Basically, I think this article is pretty trashy, but it got me thinking. http://www.rantsports.com/nhl/2013/10/03/ryan-miller-would-be-perfect-as-detroit-red-wings-goaltender/ If the Wings could trade Howard for that coveted top defensemen and then sign Miller in July, how would everyone feel about it? The only pro I could see in this scenario is that Miller, at 33, would be better suited in 3 years to back up Mrazek. With Howard, Mrazek is looking at 5-6 years minimum before he's a started. IF the kid even pans out.

Here's a poem. Holland and Babs better FIX the bottom SIX

Tonight will be a "schedule" loss. Hopefully in OT or shoot out so we grab at least 1 point.

redwings talking to ducks for bobby ryan?
rick zombo replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
He's a first line winger for the Sens. He should score more than Alfie and Cleary combined. But using health as an excuse for him being "lazy and all" is BS. And calling Holland an idiot is really poor form. Hence my Cleary playoff comparison. Obviously, I'd take Ryan over Cleary any day. I'd take him over Bickel too, and we know what a playoff beast he was. I'm just calling crap on the injury excuse. -

Doubt it. Unlike our forward situation, the D is one significant injury away from being pretty thin. Edit: Unless you're talking about a prospect? But I'm pretty sure the Ducks need help right away.
