Except he also scored the series winner against the Ducks and was a huge part of Nyquists OT winner in game 2 of that same series. You don't "almost" beat the Hawks unless you get by the Ducks first. Anyway, I hope Filpulla walks. It forces Holland to upgrade his top six with (hopefully) more of a shoot-first player. Also, although I didn't mind Valterri as a Red Wing, I think some of these kids coming up (Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Tatar, Jurco, etc) will replace Filpulla's offense and the team already has a great group of 2-way forwards.

Agreed. Saw it yesterday. Not surprisingly, Cullen' saying we need TWO top 6 wingers. One of these seasons we'll land that top six winger everyone keeps saying we'll need.

Filpulla is asking for too much. But unless Holland has plans to truly upgrade his top six (read: Horton, Clarkson) you have to think that Detroit with Filpulla is better than Detroit with Samuelson. That's the only frustrating thing. Sammy @ 3M Tootoo @ 1.9M Quincey @ 3.5M These are all bad contracts $-wise. OK term-wise. I guess what I'm saying is that I think 4M for Filpulla is fair (but pushing it a little). I also think 3M for Brunner is perhaps fair. It kills me to think that both of these guys could walk over a 0.5 - 1.5M difference in asking vs offering when Kenny has overpaid for at least three players that the team doesn't really need (not that I have any huge issue with Tootoo, Sammy, or Quincey).

I know that this glut of forwards has been staring us all in the face for a while now. But as the Wings' offseason moves along and guys re-sign, and Holland waxes in typically conservative fashion about "17 forwards this" and "Cleary that" , I'm left wondering if there really is any chance of Detroit getting that top six winger everyone keeps talking about (which, to me, is starting to seem as elusive as Bigfoot).
