Pahlsson woul be OK if he comes cheap. Great face off and PK guy. I know he's not glamorous, but he would help. IMO, if Holland can't bolster team offence, he better bolster team defense. -
Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

If Franzen goes one way and Pomonville comes back, then you're only talking a difference of over 1M. That's manageable. Plus Pomonvile is signed for two more seasons vs. Franzen's long-term deal. I'd have no issue moving Franzen and Kindl for Pomonville and Gaustad. -
Pominville + Gaustad = Cup.

LOL Did he really say that? Either way, that's some funny s***.

Holland expects some form of action on Monday. Whether a deal goes down or not is another story. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/02/red_wings_ken_holland_no_trade.html

I plused you for this. I would like to say though, Detroit most certainly are in the business of winning. This business, for Detroit, includes winning an actual cup every now and then on top of consistently winning in the regular season. I know Holland is building for the future and no one here, if secretly polled, would choose a cup this year in return for 5 years of not making the playoffs. But this team is closer than 2011 and 2010's teams were and closer(maybe - depending on how free agent season goes) than any team in the next 2-3 years might be. I mean let's face it, the home-grown core is getting older. Anyway, I guess all I'm trying to say is a guy like Brown, with a cap hit of 3+M wouldn't tie Holland's hands as far as free agency goes, and I don't think trading ONE of Jarnkrok or Jurco or Oullett or Tatar or, hell, even Nyquist along with a 2nd round pick or Cleary or, EVEN Filpulla would jeopordize any business related success moving forward. Maybe if Holland went uber-crazy every year at the deadline, but that won't happen. -
Two things. 1. Being as Dallas-Calgary-LA are all tied at 66 pts with 61 games played it's too early to make any 1st round predictions. But yeah, since we're on the subject, I really love the idea of St Louis and Nashville pounding on each other in 1st round. Also love the SJ-Chicago matchup. 2. There's nothing wrong with coasting. Easy match-ups worked in 08. Conversely, the 2nd round Anaheim series in 09 followed by Chicago killed us in 09. I like two easy (relatively speaking)series and one tough one before the finals. It's essential that Detroit earns a sweep or can beat someone in 5 games. 1st in the West is as important this year as it's ever been. It's actually nice that the regular season has some meaning.

Settle down man. You started the thread and I’m participating. Who would you offer up for Brown?
-
I can’t believe it. Man, you called it.
-
LA need scoring? Hudler (he’d be a rental I know) Kindl Tatar 2nd round pick. Would that do it? Doubt they trade him though...........

So, anyone have any streaming suggestions now that frwtv is out of business?

Great news. The Wings weren't going to get him anyway, and now teams that could really use the help in the West are boxed out too. This will also increase the asking price of any top-six winger rumored to be on the move, making it more difficult for San Jose, LA, Nashville, and St Louis to improve on their top six without massive over payment. Meeee likey. -
Agreed. That's all I was saying. But from the talk in this thread you'd think Holland was getting ready to clone and re-activate the KLM line or something.
-
Dudes, just you guys wait until Hudler re-signs at 10 years, 4M per.
-
Maybe another trade for a forward, but nothing crazy IMO.

Red Wings still looking for another defensemen?
rick zombo replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Yeah, I saw that. Doesn't mean that the source of the rumor didn't come before the trade, and was left unrevised. I'd be shocked if Holland was looking to add another defensemen. Seems more likely that this is old news suffering from an ill-timed release. -

I'd say Dreger wrote this before the Quincy deal. -

Maybe it was Vermette. He was just dealt to Pheonix. No details yet. edit: for a 2012 2nd rounder and a 5th (turning into a 4th if Pheonix win a round). http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=388536 Interesting deal. Vermette is not a rental player and Phoenix essentially got him for a 2nd round pick. This is Ottawa's pick too so it won't be a top 15. Seems like a good deal for Phoenix. -
Realistically? This....... Franzen - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi Filpulla - Zetterberg - Hudler Abdlekader - Helm - Miller Cleary - Pahlsson/Gaustad - Homer is closer to what you’ll see.

Taco Bull strikes again.

It's all about the last change. Teams have been lining their shut-down line up against Pavel and letting their #1 scoring line go wild on Z. Hudler, while playing well, is not a great defensive forward. Also, Z's line doesn't have the tools (read: size) to eat up valuable minutes in the other team's zone and spend more time than they should in their own end. It will be hard to find an offensive upgrade over Hudler for cheap at the deadline and I'm not suggesting they do. But they might want to think about foresaking some offense from Z's line in order to make it better defensively. In other words, replace Hudler with Cleary, or upgrade for a sizeable defensive winger with speed at the deadline.

That’s what Stuart cost us in 08. Stuart >>>>>Kubina. I’m glad Holland didn’t pay that for Kubina.
