As I said in the NHL Trade thread, it would take at least that. But that IMO is the ballpark, yes. Although I think Miller + 2nd would be over payment. Also, I don't think Holland would part with a 2nd rounder just to add defensive depth.
-
So: Grossman = 2nd + 3rd Gill + 5th = mid-level prospect + 2nd + scrub That is your starting point for Kubina and Allen. I can't see Holland parting with a 2nd rounder for either of these guys.

They can have Hudler.... ..........for Suter

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?
rick zombo replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Any three guys would be OK. Especially Statsny. I'd imagine Holland would want a veteran D-man over Quincy or Oduya though. A proven winner like Kubina fits the mold. -
I wonder how many LGWers would have said this about Larry Murphy when he was getting booed out of the rink in Toronto back in 97 before coming to Detroit at the deadline for a laugh and doubling his cup total during the following two playoff runs? My #1 choice for sure.
-
And the Wings couldn't use another big shot from the point on the PP? Z-Dats-Franzen Lidstorm - White Hudler-Filpula-Homer Kronwall-Kubina I don't think Holland will trade Kindl for Kubina though.

Word. To me they are a slighly better version of Hitch's Columbus team that got completely smoked in round 1 by the Wings in 09. The only chance the Blues have in round 1 this year is if they draw Nashville and can somehow "out-bore" them. But they'll get shelled against Detroit, Vancouver, hell even San Jose. We'll see how "the best goaltending in the NHL" does when the pressure's on. Also, mark my words, just like Columbus in 09/10, this Blues team tanks next year when they start tuning out Donut Man and Elliot goes back to being Ottawa Elliot.
-
Yeah, quite possible. Or maybe he just picked a list of nice places to live (-Philly) combinded with that city also having a team in the hunt (-Toronto )

I've heard this too. Not like I ultimately care about Nash either way, but I find it a bit of a slap in the dick that Detroit, and the opportunity to play with Datsyuk, didn't make his list.
-
See now, this is the kind of deal Holland would entertain. As in: not a rental. Nash gives you a true power forward for the next 7 years, cap hit be damned. Also, Babcock loves the guy. Hopefully there's more to this than is being reported. Hopefully Nash is demanding a trade, tired of losing. If this is a case, I think his list of go-to teams would be slim. Assuming he gives Columbus a list heavy on contenders, Detroit being one of them, then you have to look at cap space. The Red Wings have plenty, not just this year, but moving forward, which gives them an edge. To Columbus: 2012 1st Filpulla Tatar To Detroit: Nash Not sure if this would even do it and I'm not sure that I'd pull the trigger on this either. Just speculating.

Yeah, a lot of potential sellers have said for the record that they're not selling, and a lot of potential buyers are saying they're not buying - based on asking prices. Most likely pre-deadline posturing.
-
To clarify, Burns cost SJ Setoguchi, a 1st, and Coyle. Sooooooo WTF???? Also, Moen's won a cup a recently as 2007. By your logic, what's the point trading for him if he's not a hungry cup-virgin?
-
No team is perfect obviously. Of the 2011/2012 Detroit Red Wings' short list of weaknesses, which one scares you the most? Which one, if not addressed through trade or fixed internally will hurt this team the most come playoff time. Not a panic or knee jerk thread by the way, just curious.

I dunno, if you look at it in 5 year blocks then 5M/yr for the first 5 is good value for a 30-40 goal guy. He’d only be 33. The next 5 years would be dodgy but you’d probably get decent value for two or three of them. You’re really only talking about a bad cap hit for the final 2 or 3 years of his deal. And a lot can happen to a franchise in 7-8 years. I’m more worried about his character coming into question than the contract, to be honest.

Nabby just drove up Snow’s asking price tonight.
-
Thanks for posting everyone. It’s funny, because I think a rugged bottom six guy would help the PK the same way a top six forward would help the PP. The one thing that makes the PK better right away would be improving puck retrieval by winning more puck battles along the boards. Helm, Miller, Filpulla, and Eaves (when healthy) work hard but sometimes get outmuscled.
-
Agreed. Somehow it feels like Snow won't deal Nabokov to Detroit though, out of nothing else but pure prick-ish-ness.
-
He practiced before the Edmonton game too and then post-practice said he'd be out a minimum of two weeks. He's not taking any shots stick side.
-
Nashville has Weber. Other teams fear his shot which opens up lots of other otpions. So unless we can trade for this type of player to run the point (Lidstrom is amazing, but his shot is not feared), a pure sniper is a reasonable wish.
-
Pretty funny. So then what? Bertuzzi - Datsyuk - Nash Ryan - Zeterberg - Vermette Abdlekader - Cogliano - Miller Holmstrom - Helm - Mursak Emmerton Eaves Lidstrom White Kronwall Fowler Ericsson Smith Howard Conklin Deslaurier Man, would that even be like watching the Wings?
-
Smoke screen? I doubt Holland would come out and say "we want a top six winger plz" Most likely he puts the word out that he's looking for something generic like D-depth just to receive some phone calls, then BAM!!! we get Vrbata or something.
-
Ferraro has a legit shot at the NHL based purely on skating ability alone. Much like Helm and, to a lesser degree, Mursak.

Some of these poster's trade package proposals are not what THEY would trade, rather just ballparks of what they think it would take - ie: what they think Columbus would ask for. For instance, when answering the OP's question "what would it take to get Nash" I said this: I didn't say Holland should make the deal, or that I would want him to, but this is a lot closer to what Howson would ask for than say Cleary, Tatar, Eaves and a 2nd round pick. Basically, it would take a massive ******* package to land Nash, and rightfully so.
-
Settle down now. The OP asked what it would TAKE, not what I'd trade. I think for a player like Nash, who is basically the entire Columbus franchise, it would have to be ridiculous overpayment. Judging by your response, you'd agree.
