I have a feeling that the climate is changing in Detroit's head office. I really think Holland and Nill are trying to find players they can fast-track to the NHL (at least when compared to their previous 5 year AHL Marination Plan)
-
Now, explain the scenario that sees Huet's 5.5M and Campbell's 7.5M and NTC getting moved. Do you really think Campbell will play in the AHL?

Memo to at least 5 Hawks players Re: July 1. K later
-
Yeah. Definitely not the Wings. Holland has basically said that IF he signs anyone it won't be until the dust settles (sometime after July 3) and all the expensive and overpriced players have signed before he goes digging for the right player.

Pronger's going to eat someone tonight. Never thought I'd cheer for the guy. Flyers in 7, double overtime.

Which defunct team would you like to see make a comeback?
rick zombo replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
Quebec would be the shortest drive for me to see the Wings play. -
Trading the 29th pick for the 32nd pick (Ferraro) and the 75th pick (Nestrasil) is a bit different than trading the 21st pick, don't you think?

IMO If no Bert: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Franzen - Filpulla - Cleary Armstrong/Torres- Abdlekader - Hudler Draper - Helm - Eaves Ritola If Bert: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Franzen - Filpulla - Bertuzzi Cleary - Abdlekader - Hudler Nystrom/Burrish - Helm - Eaves Draper - Ritola let Eaves and Ritola duke it out for the 13th roster spot. Both of these line-ups put Detroit over the current cap, but would squeeze under a cap increased by 2M.

I don't recall Recchi saying anything about retiring. In fact, I'm pretty sure he said he's like to play again next season. edit: they were talking about Recchi's stautus over in dum-dum land. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=769910

Which Rookie has the best chance at cracking the line-up next season?.
rick zombo replied to king_malice's topic in General
Exactly. Mursak will probably see some call-up time with the big club, maybe Emmerton. -
You can't guarantee s***.

It's just that simple eh?

There's really only one question about next season's team now.

It's the third line that needs the most help. I'd say let Bert walk and sign Armstrong to play on the 3rd line. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Franzen - Filpulla - Hudler Cleary - Abdlekader - Armstrong Eaves - Helm - Draper Ritola OR keep Bert.... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Franzen - Filpulla - Bertuzzi Cleary - Abdlekader - Hudler Eaves - Helm - Draper Ritola -
I edited my post, and played along a little myself

With Lidstrom signed at 6.2M this is what the roster looks like(note - it's more fun to assume that the cap is going up 2M so I've made the adjustments): Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 16; CAP: $56.8m; PAYROLL: $50.380m; CAP ROOM: $8.420m BONUSES: $0.000m Sooooo, that's 8.42M to sign 5 forwards and 1 D-man. 6 players. Technically, if Bert walked and Homer signed for 2.5M, that leaves 5.9M for 5 players. Say they signed someone like Armstrong for 2M, that leaves 3.9 M for 4 players. Helm, Abby, sign for 1M each(high estimate). This leaves 1.9M for two players. Eaves and a 7th D-Man. Each making 900k. Like this!!!!! Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Thomas Holmstrom (2.500m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m)/ Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) Colby Armstrong (2.000m)/ Justin Abdlekader ($1.000m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Patrick Eaves (0.900m)/ Darren Helm (1.000m)/ Kris Draper ($1.583m) Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) I think.

YUP. Great deal.
-
Keep in mind, no one has confirmed a cap hit of 7M. Holland wouldn't disclose the $$ amount when he announced the re-sign. BUT he did say this: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/06/red_wings_sign_captain_nicklas.html This leads me to believe that Lidstrom signed for something like 6.2M? And that Holland still hopes to improve the team with an external move.
-
IF Lids re-signed for 7M then this is roughly what the roster looks like. - with Homer getting a slight raise - with Janik or someone at league minimum as the 7th D-man - with slight raises for Eaves, Abby, and Helm - with Miller released - with Ritola as the 13th forward Either Holland makes a trade, or he's banking on that 2M cap increase. Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) * Tomas Holmstrom ($2.500m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) / * Todd Bertuzzi ($1.500m) * Justin Abdelkader ($0.900m) / * Darren Helm ($0.800m) / * Patrick Eaves ($0.700m) Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN * Nicklas Lidstrom ($7.000m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) * Doug Janik ($0.500m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 22; CAP: $56.8m; PAYROLL: $58.080m; CAP ROOM: $-1.280m

Articles/Reports on players coming in and going out..
rick zombo replied to king_malice's topic in General
Did you read the entire original post? Did you catch the part about Armstrong? That would be at least 15 goals from a right-handed versatile winger who plays a physical game. Hardly "the same team". No? -
Man some of those goalies looked terrible back then.

This is what's going to happen: Lids will come back for another season, Almost 100% sure of this. And you will all be happy. BUT, he'll sign for 6.5M. and that will piss some of you off. Pure speculation, but I'd bet the farm on this scenario.

IF the Hawks win the Cup this year, I would hesitate to add Burish to the line-up. I'd rather have someone "hungrier" than a guy coming off a cup win. Just my opinion.

Great idea + no Crosby = AMAZING!!!!!!!

You specifically aimed your comments at the "small skilled euros" that Holland has been drafting. This thread is discussing the 1st round pick. Holland has targeted North Americans with the Wings first selection in the past 4 years. A pretty decent sample group. This is what you said: Pretty harsh don't you think? I'm with you as far as McIlrath goes. I'd be surprised if Holland takes him. But if you want to criticize Holland's drafting skills (which you're more than entitled too) maybe you should have made a less pointed initial statement. The Latendresse reference? The Wings passed up on a "skilled" semi-soft, poor skating, defensively incompetent player from the Q. Guess who they took instead? Abdlekader. A physical two-way forward from Michigan. Holland doesn't always draft for skill.
