OR, Hudler gets 2.5M. Filpulla AND Kronwall and Osgood are traded for prospects/picks, sign Samuelson for 1.5, and another forward for .5M and 1M for Conklin. You end up + .417M Zetterberg (6) - Datsyuk (6.7) - Holmstrom (2.25) Hudler (1.5) - Cleary (2.8) - Hossa (6) Leino (1) - Helm (.6) - Samuelson (1.5) Abdelkader (.74) - Draper (1.583) - Maltby (.883) UFA (.5M) Defense: Lidstrom (7.45) - Stuart (3.75) Ralfaski (6) - Lilja (1.25) Lebda (.650) - Ericcson (.9) Meech (.483) Goalie: Conklin (1M) Howard (.717) edit to add: Man, what I wouldn't give to see Holland's napkin/notepad I bet he screws with these scenarios 3 times a day.

Live stream anyone??????

So, as of today, 4 points separate 6th and 14th place in the West. I can't remember a race this tight. The East is tight as well. My question? How much does this affect the trade deadline? My thoughts are that this could be the slowest deadline ever. Too many potential buyers, not enough sellers. Thoughts???

Well, there's a few ways to go IMO. Samuelson + a 3rd for Adam Mair? (the 3rd rounder because Sammy's a UFA and Mair has another year at .75K) Filpulla for Anthony Stewart and a 2nd round pick? (Detroit dumps salary in preparation for this summer's blitz, and gains size and a decent draft pick. Stewart's an RFA who should make a third of what Flip makes now.) I wouldn't make both deals. But one maybe. I dunno? What are your thoughts Mac?

I agree. The other scenario is that teams don't go the rental route as per usual, rather make real hockey deals -swaping "needs", so to speak. For example, listening to Holland during that tsn 1-on-1, he alluded to a straight up trade of salries with another team. Not to turn this into a Wings trade deadline thread, but I'd like to see a deal where the Wings get the third or forth line grit that they need and in return team X get's maybe some scoring depth or a veteran presence. You know, hockey deals.

I agree. However, last time I checked (yesterday) the Big Rig was nursing some nagging injuries of his own.
-
Definitely a good story. But, most NHL caliber goal scores know where the corners and five holes are regardless of pad color/design. They generally shoot for those spots.
-
This part. I seems like Kaberle or Kubina (if traded) would go to a contending team. None of this potential suitors would have a "high draft pick" to offer.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking a Roberts - Nichol - Peca type guy for the fourth line. The chemistry would have to be there, of course.

Online stream for US-Canada?

Anyone know if this game is being streamed online?

Yes. The Osgood slappies need to take a pill.

The reason Meech is playing forward is becuase of the cap. No one form GR can be called up at the moment without either a) Lidstrom being placed on long-term-injury (which means he misses 10 games, automatic) or b) Meech being sent down and having to clear waivers, and most likely getting scooped up by another team.

It was Garrett Stafford actually. http://griffinshockey.com/team/roster/inde...ml?player_id=93 Quicey was hurt/being useless at the time in Grand Rapids.
-
But I though having a team that could ice thugs like Paros, May, Moen, etc automatically meant that no other team would take liberties with your star players. I mean look at the way Hossa, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg have been manhandled this year because of Detroit's lack of an enforcing presence. can of worms opened...................................
-
Ahhh yes, but if you read the fine print above you'll see that Holland hopes to sign him to a 7-10 year deal that would see his salary decrease near the end of the deal. Which probably means his cap hit could be less than 8M/year.
-
It's a little concerning to me that of the 8 man defence roster on team Canada, Smith failed to make the cut.
-
Well, considering Zetterberg scored a huge goal, by going hard to the net no less, after he got swatted at by big bad Roy proves the point that this kind of "big stupid lug" intimidation doesn't work. At least not against Detroit.
-
St. James simply asked the same question for every 3 goal game Ozzies has this year. I see no problem with that.
-
What I think some of you might be missing is that Franzen has been dogging it a bit the last two or three games. This is a nice wake-up call for The Mule. Not that there should be any panic.
-
Scoring's not an issue this year. Unless you blame any of the goals against on Z, then, in the face of a 6 goal output, I say leave Z where he is. A 60 point season for Hank in a contract year wouldn't hurt this team in negotiations. Plus, Zetterberg's still amazing, and he's been working hard. Did anyone else think that Franzen just dialed it in tonight. No work ethic it seemed. edit: grammar

Agreed. And technically the Wings will probably have to play better than last year's team to repeat.
