Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

If Detroit lock Hossa up long term, then I would dare to say that Filpulla, Hudler, and this years 1st round pick wouldn't even be too much to part with.

Flames Obtain Jim Vandermeer for a third

So essentially, with the exchange of 3rd round picks, Philly just traded Vandermeer for Modry.

Deadline - wish lists, hunches, speculation

My bad. 3M/yr for the next 3 years, through the 2010/11 season

At 4M/season, that would make Tucker the highest paid 4th liner in the NHL.

Deadline - wish lists, hunches, speculation

I remember at last year's deadline the Leafs were HOT for Mayers. St.Louis was asking too much. He'd be a massive upgrade physiaclly over anything Detroit has in their line-up (aside from Downey)

Lidstrom expected to miss 3 weeks

That's not the point of making the statement "better now than April". What he means is "better to have suffered this exact specific injury NOW rather than in the first round of the playoffs." Of course he could get hurt again. (obvious)

Lidstrom expected to miss 3 weeks

Could be worse. But enough with the effing injuries. That's it hockey gods. NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Basically, I agree. Except you have to factor in Kronwall's injuries. If someone could guarantee that Nik would stay healthy, then he gets put on the "no trade" list. But you have to assume that the fact that he hasn't played a full season yet, due to a myriad of physical setbacks, is a major issue and perhaps makes him more tradeable then his upside (potential, salary, etc.) suggests. Correct? edit: spelling

LA's Jaroslav Modry Traded to Philly

I'd say Meech and a 2nd round pick would get Stuart, if a 3rd rounder got Modry.

    Vinny Lecavalier

All I know is that Tampa have Vincent, Ricahrds, and St. Louis, yet they can't win.

Deadline - wish lists, hunches, speculation

Yes, they could sell the farm for Hossa. Or they could simply get healthy.

    Vinny Lecavalier

Well, considering you were willing to part with 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and a 3rd rounder to land Brad Stuart.............

Deadline - wish lists, hunches, speculation

I think you are seriously under-estimating the importance of draft picks in today's NHL. Your trade proposal was ridiculous. My trade proposal was maybe selling LA short a touch, but much closer to reality.

Talk about overpayment for Stuart. If he resigns LA get: 2 first round picks 2 2nd round picks 1 third round pick. In a perfect world (and a much more realistic one): Detroit gets Stuart LA get Sammuelson, and a 2nd round pick. That's it. edit to add: The package you proposed would almost land Hossa.

A Fedorov return to Wings makes sense

Three items that should be speculated on: 1. How much did Sergei enjoy playing for Babcock in 04. 2. What's Babcock's opinion of Fedorov? 3. How badly would number 91 want to put it to Burke, the man that shipped him out of Anaheim? Discuss?

    Wings fans are spoiled

    Cue thread backlash.

Holland talks about upcoming trade deadline

The thing I like about Ken is that he's realistic. He won't do anything crazy. This current Wings roster is in no way assured of winning the Stanley Cup. But to say that they have absolutely NO CHANCE of winning is a bit of a knee-jerk. My only criticism of Holland is, that with the extra 5M he had coming out of the summer, he should have spent it in the summer on one or two UFAs. Even if it meant overpayment for one year contracts. He said he was hanging on to the cap space for the deadline, but, like other years, the asking prices for the kind of players the Wings (and every other contender) need - namely a scoring winger and top four D-man, are through the roof.

Meech - Send down? Offer up?

No no. Meech will be the cornerstone of a deal for Hossa.

Trade deadline in 2 weeks. Your one winger, and D.

This certainly seems logical. If Chelios and Lilja both re-sign, next year's D will be exactly the same as this year. Unfortunately there is little room for Quincey, especially since Ericsson, if anyone, would most likely crack the Wiings roster next year. Soooooooo, Quincey + a 3rd for Stuart?

    Defense Exposed

Well, in tonight's game, Lidstrom played one of his worst games of the season(a rare bad game for him) and Babcock stuck his own head up his anus by again pairing Rafalski with Lebda early on which led to Nashville's 2nd goal. A healthy Kronwall and a minor tweak at the deadline will take care of any issues. Now if the only the forwards could score and the goalies would get hot again..............

    That would be tremendous.

Players Linked to Wings for Deadline

I need to have something clarified. Do the Wings have a 2nd round pick in 08? (See Bertuzzi deal)

Wings need 3 new players to win Cup

BUT you never know how your 1st rounder will turn out. For example, Brendan Smith has been plagued by a very troublesome back injury as of December. Depending how this works out, I would have sent that 1st rounder to Florida last year in order to hang on to Matthias.
