Yes, and Mickey said this on Wednesday's telecast. For me though, I don't like the idea of the visiting team "out coloring" the Red Wings so to speak. Basically, it's an exhibition of the visiting teams colors not the home team. Which I don't agree with. So I have to go with Red.

But I look at the All-star worthiness of players based on their performance form Feb 07 - Jan 08 or something. Not just the first half of this season. In which case Luongo, Kipper, Backstrom > Osgood. And even if you look at this year's stats you could replace Kipper with LeClaire. Besides, if Osgood is as good a candidate as people here say he is, he won't need a write-in, rather he'll get picked by the coaches, GMs or whatever.
-
OK. That still leaves backstrom, luongo, and leclaire. I'd love to see Ozzy at the All-Star game. But I really can't see it happening.
-
Luongo Kipper Leclaire Backstrom There's 4 guys that probably deserve to be there as much or more than Osgood. I love Ozzy as much as the next person, but this would be a tough sell.

It's called hockey talk. It is endorsed and condoned in this forum. And you're participating in it as we speak. edit:spelling

No. But people do like to talk about deals a few years later. Like the Lindros trade, or some of the deals that Milbury made. We talk about what a steal Murphy was in 97 at the deadline. A few people here have cited the Chelios deal as being a good one. Or Draper for $1. It's fun to analyze in "hindsight". Don't you think? No one's suggesting that Holland needs a new crystal ball.
-
Well, often times you have to wait a few years to see who "wins" a trade. Especially when prosepects are involved. I was looking for people's opinion on how this particular trade looks now, in retrospect, not a synopsis of Back To The Future.

Interesting to hear that about Fleischmann. I just look at his numbers in the AHL and think he compares offensively to a guy like Hudler, only with much better size and speed.

They're not winning the cup. And I hate Burke.

So, I was flipping through some player profiles on TSN's website and I was a little dissapointed to see that Howard's scouting report has him projected to be a 1A goalie. Months ago he was projected as a number 1. For those of you that don't understand, an example of a 1A goalie would be Osgood, Fernandez, etc. Someone who can share starting duties but not be the undisputed number 1 guy. Young goalies like LeClaire, Harding, and Price are all projected as number 1s. The point is, Howard's ranking has dropped. Here's the link http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...e=nhl-red_wings Any thoughts????

Datsyuk, Howard, Kindl, and a 1st. But realistically the only way Tampa ever trades Vinny is to dump salary. So they wouldn't want Datsyuk in return. Maybe Zetterberg. But there's no way Detroit makes that deal. If Montreal offered up Higgins, Markov, Price, and a 1st they'd have a shot.
-
They won't break the wins record, but they will win the cup. IMO
-
Well Detroit is murder on goalies. So it seems like management is doing the smart thing by letting Howard mature before they throw him to the wolves.
-
I'd be inclined to think that this would be the best way to insult someone
-
I really have to say that right now, at this very moment, there is more to Samuelsson's game than Hudler's.
-
All the central teams have improved. Columbus is the scariest because they have the the type of hot goalie and stingy D that gives Detroit fits. Plus after years of being violated by Detroit, all these teams will get up for the Red Wings like no other. These next 9 games will be rough going. But at least Babcock and company seem to be on the alert.
-
Exactly. This is what prompted the creation of this thread.

Why Are the Red Wings So Good Year After Year?
rick zombo replied to livediehockey80's topic in General
It's true. Ownership, management, scouting, etc. Being able to adapt to a salary cap. Being able to build a core and plug the holes with the right players. Having a vision. Playing 5 russians on the same line when most other teams were still attending the Don Cherry School of Hockey Bigotry. Taking the chance on small skilled europeans when most teams were still attending the Bobby Clarke School of Canadian Oafs. Etc. I'd say having an easy travel schedule all these years has helped too. Edit for spelling. -
Or as I like to put it: "No One" is lazy and he sucks
-
I can't see him ever playing again.
-
If the Wings get a point in Calgary tonight I'll be quite happy.
-
Yeah, maybe Foote was a bad example. But I still think that Detroit are missing that Markov type guy that they need to make a deep playoff run. The second pairing of Kronwall-Lilja is just as much a weekness on this team as the second forward line is IMO. Edit: and for the record I don't want Forsberg here, so in no way was I supporting a "divealanche reunion".
-
When I look at Detroit's roster I see two holes that need to be filled. - 2nd line winger - #4 defencemen Aquiring Hossa would break the bank. I'd rather spread it out and get a forward and a rental veteran physical D-man like Foote at the deadline.
-
Oh, I agree with this. I was just offering up my theory as to why he was playing center. Not why he was playing Edit: regarless, it seems like this is a good problem to have. Drake, Ellis, and Downey are capable of playing a hardworking, gritty game on the 4th line. Franzen's a tier above skill-wise. But like I said, I'm sure Babcock is thrilled with his options. The competition should do nothing but improve this teams work ethic. I think it's great.
-
Maybe to keep him off the boards. A little less crashing and banging on the knee for now, and a lot more skating to get back in shape. That would be my theory.
