Obstruction, Hooking, Slashing. Holding, Clutching, and Grabbing
rick zombo posted a topic in General
There's too much of it in this Stanley Cup Final. It's hard to watch. Anaheim especially are getting away with it on every Ottawa dump in.It's quite ridiculous actually. Pre-lockout hockey. So much for the new NHL> And for all you Duck fans on here, it's impossible to deny, so don't bother. Link to some comments made by Bowman http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2007/05/bo...y_of_ducks.html -
I'd rather have Markov and Numminen or Sutton and Numminen for 5 million, than just Schneider for 4 or 4.5. Numminen can play the power play and Markov/Sutton provides Detroit with much needed stay-at-home grit.

who should Detroit target the most in free agency?
rick zombo replied to canadienhater's topic in General
Hasek Chelios Bertuzzi Numminen Hartnell Sutton __________________________ Trade Samuleson to free up some cap space. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Hartnell - Filpulla - Bertuzzi Franzen - Cleary - Grigorenko Maltby - Draper - Kopecky Hudler Lidstrom - Numminen Sutton - Kronwall Chelios - Lilja Lebda Hasek Osgood -
Give me a break with this stupid thread. It was an average shot that hit Scott square in the armour. It was hardly close to "killing" or "badly hurting" someone. Talk about exageration. Unlike Pronger's elbow. I'd like to point out that McAmmond didn't play last night. But if this is what Duck fans need to justify their own teams ******-ness then fine. But at least frame it that way.

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
rick zombo replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
The league (edit) :could justifiably suspend Chris Pronger every 3rd or 4th game for something he does out there. And he could probably be called for at least 5 penalties a game. So maybe the elbow to the head suspension was a tough call but Pronger having to sit a game is hardly f*5king unfair. -
Ritola, Ryno sign 3-year entry-level contracts
rick zombo replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
you sure that wasn't Ritola? -
I don't understand a word you just said. Luongo makes 7M. Brodeur makes 5M (I think)

Of that list, I'd take Bertuzzi (3M), and Sutton (2.5M) Also sign Sarich (3M) Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Cleary - Filpulla - Bertuzzi Franzen - Hudler - Grigorenko Maltby - Draper - Kopecky Samuelson Lidstorm - Sarich Kronwall - Sutton Chelios - Lebda Lilja Hasek Osgood. Look at that D. Holy s***. Extremely physical. Forget Schneider. Forget Markov. Give Quincey another year in AHL (he's only 21). Leave Kindl in OHL.

Obstruction, Hooking, Slashing. Holding, Clutching, and Grabbing

Well put Hank. Though you're logic has been wasted on a few narrow minds, it's not fallen entirely on deaf ears. Actually, the new rules have been effective for creating a more wide-open, and more exciting game. We're talking about how these new rules, which had been meticulously established and well implemented over the course of the last two seasons have all of a sudden dissapeared in the first two games of this years finals. The hitting and intesity that Anaheim brings is great. The first period of last night's game was hard to top form a physical standpoint. But interference and obstruction are totally different beasts. It's sooooooooooo obvious it hurts to even write this. The last time I saw a stretch like this, I was looking at a picture of Brittany Spears trying to climb out of a limo. -

This is basically the only thing I can't overlook too. The chippy play is fine, but the interference, especially on the forecheck is not cool for hockey fans in general. -

Never once did I say the Ducks didn't "deserve" to win. Never once during the Detroit series did I say that the Ducks didn't "deserve" to win. They score clutch goals and have a supremely dominating forecheck. And Pahlsson is a terrific player. But I'm not happy with Anaheim's style of play. It's not hockey. Thankfully, neither Edmonton nor the Flames won palying that way in the previous two finals As for the big sticker? too drastic. But I wouldn't mind putting a little asterisk beside the 95 Devils, the 2003 Devils, and the 2007 Ducks (if they win it). Maybe you can put said sticker on your face to replace the "blinders" -

If you view some of the current threads you will see a few Ducks fans still on these boards. They are good contributors, not trolls. But I think they understand what's going on in this series. Even Wings "fans" that are posting all the time and are highly critical of the Wings almost all the time have refrained from trying to justify Anaheim's play, or explaining it off as "I wish our team played this way." It's just so painfully obvious. Especially in the face of the new NHL. -

I'm glad we're recognizing it and discussing it. At least it's not being overlooked by fans of the game. I am in no way saying that this is the reason the Wings lost to Anaheim. It wasn't as bad in that series, and the Wings were more tenacious in breaking through. But it's for sure gotten worse in the finals. Like I said, 11 shots by the Sens cannot be completely attributued to lack of effort on their part. (edit:This) has a great deal to do with the trap, and obstruction. To me it's a joke that the only obstruction penalty called against the Ducks all night on Wednesday was an offensive pick by Miller. Not many Duck fans chiming in with responses. Wonder why? -

Exactly, and what's amazing is how little it's being discussed in the media. It's a huge issue and most people with influence on the game are ignoring it. CBC touched on it a bit last night. To paraphrase Ron MacLean: "When Ottawa dump the puck in on either wing, it's not the Anaheim defencemen on that side that goes back to retrive the puck. It's the other defencemen on the other wing who comes all the way diagonally across the ice to get it. This is a long chase for that defencemen and only works if his partner make 'a little' contact with the player who dumped the puck and is trying to get by in order to forecheck" But this is the extent of it. I don't know, maybe no one wants to upset Burke. But it's a joke that it's hapening on the ice, and being ignored off the ice. Absolutely the worst part of Hockey. -

They did get away with some obstuction against the Wings. It has become significantly more noticeable this series against the Senators. The more they get away with, the worse it gets. And now it would seem almost impossible for the refs to start making calls because the standard seems to have been set. But it's extremely obvious and it's giving Anaheim a huge advantage. 11 shots for Ottawa. Very few of them came 5 on 5. -
Maltby signed a 3 year extension about a month ago.

Lang was bashed mostly because he was suposed to lead the charge of secondary scoring this season and these playoffs, and for the most part, he didn't. No one had a problem with Lang's salary until his numbers started to wane.

What the hell are you talking about?

With regards to the NHL.com article: - it's hard to put any stock in a writer that notes that Kronwall was hurt in the first round against Calgary, and lists Kozlov as a center when in fact he is a natural LW. that being said, he's a legitimate top 6 forward that has a history of clutch in the post-season. that being said, he's an inconsistent scorer. edit to add: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Homer Kozlov - Filpulla - Bertuzzi (healthy) Franzen - Cleary - Grigorenko Maltby - Draper - Samueslon Kopecky / Hudler looks pretty OK> Everyone's playing their natural position for a change (except Henrik)
-
Screw off with the grit talk. God.

This kid has had some bad luck in Sweeden. Lot's of upside though. Interesting, I thought Ryno would have been signed first.

Add Jason Blake, Teppo Numminen Blake - Datsyuk - Homer Cleary - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi Maltby - Draper - Franzen Samuelson - Filpulla - Grigorenko Kopecky/Hudler Lidstrom - Markov Kronwall - Numminen Chelios - Lebda Lilja/Quincey Hasek Osgood

I really can't believe anyone would say this after watching Detroit play this playoffs. The Wings played very much like "men". Just ask Iginla, Phanuef, Thorton, Grier, etc. I know (edit:) th(ere) is always room, especially on this Wings team, to get bigger and tougher, but comments like the one you juts made boggle the s*** out of my mind.
-
Someone who could play a regular shift and drop the gloves if need be would be nice. But I think Detroit shed the "softest team in the NHL" tag with their run this sping. They beat 2 big strong gritty teams and barely lost to the "hardest" team in the NHL in the SCF. IN general, I'd say a top six winger who might have been able to score on a few of those 5-3s in Game 4 would have been more useful to the team than a fighter.

It's probably mostly Leaf and Habs fans that are sick with jealousy right now, that are rooting for Anaheim. I myself would love to see Ottawa win it. Ottawa is a great city, and their fans are very passionate about this run.
