You can't really compare the two players. But yes, 12M per/3 years for Green is a pipe dream. But it won't be 6.5M at 6 or 7 either. I say Green signs for 5.5 for 6 or 7, or 6M for 3 or 4.

But a happy Soderberg might be as good as an unhappy R O'R

Soderberg signs with Avs. 5 years, 4.75M/per http://www.tsn.ca/avs-sign-soderberg-to-five-year-contract-1.318536

Awwwwww Yeah. This joke keeps writing itself.

Mantha's going to be a good NHL player. Holland won't make any major trades tomorrow, or this summer. Holland won't sign any UFAs. The Wings will trade down a few spots in the draft, and take Oliver Kylington in the 1st round. That's all I know. Anything more would only be pure speculation

I hear you. And, to be clear, I wasn't complaining about current hijinks as much as I was expressing curiosity over what off-topic discussion gets the heavy mod hand and what goes unchecked. Sometimes it hard to discern.
-
Have we even talked about Phaneuf in the last 4 pages of this thread? Not that I ultimately give a s***, except the mods have dropped the hammer in more "on point" threads than this de-evolved mess.
-
They needed a pure RHed offensive D man. Keeping that criterea in mind: Zidlicky was a better, cheaper, option. Besides, it's not like Petry was much help to Montreal in that Tampa series. I think this will be exactly what happens. Either Holland makes a big trade, or they go with the kids.

Who knows, but I'm sure glad DeKeyser didn't have this attitude.

Yzerman wins GM of Year (& other awards discussion)

I agree. I'm mostly just being a jerk. I don't want the competition to succeed at all. Even Stevie. I just can't cheer for the GM of the team that dealt the Wings their most recent playoff loss. Same way I won't be hoping for Babcock to win the Jack Adams anytime soon. -

The Rangers have had as much success as Tampa in the last three years. And Sather didn't inherit a couple of 1st and second overall superstars. If anything, he's done as much, with less. -

Give any above average GM Stamkos and Hedman to start with, good owners, a tropical climate to lure players, and a no-pressure hockey market and they could probably do the same thing. -
This 3-on-3 business should help pad some of the elite goal-scorers stats by at least 5 or so goals next year.
-
Glad Babcock's gone. I don't think I could watch Miller-Glendenning-Ericsson for two and a half minutes of OT.

Because the Wings are so soft that even a women would toughen them up. Hardy Har. Sports jokes that connect the perception of a weak athlete to a women are soooooooo funny.

Granato possibly renegotiating contract with Wings

As I said earlier, I'd be happy with the kids getting a shot, and I'm not really lobbying for Holland to sign Franson (or Green). But don't kid yourself. None of them are going to generate the offence that Franson would, and none are close to matching his physical game.
-
Petry - 5.5 Leddy - 5.5 Boychuck - 6 I know were splitting hairs but that's an average salary of 5.67M/per with an average length of 6.7 years. I'd take Franson under those terms.
-
You'd have to think that the Oilers will role out the McDavid-McLellan-Ciarelli carpet for any and all possible UFA blueliners. I could see one of Franson, Green, Erhoff, Sekera, Martin, Jackman, or Oduya ending up there. Ciarelli's going to be in cap hell in a few years with all these young lottery picks nearing UFA status, but hey, that didn't stop him in Boston.

That was Hiller. He took that s*** with him to Toronto. I think that's actually of photo of him in your avatar, no? -
Hell, I'll be happy if they promote the right prospects from within the organization. Just give Marchenko, Ouellet, Pulkinnen, and Ferraro a real chance.

Kulfan's saying "likely Chelios and Granato" http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/kulfan-discusses-wings-assistant-coaching-situation-cleary-and-zidlickys-re -
Exactly. If everyone's "overpaying", then no one really is, relatively speaking. It's not like Franson's going to sign for 4M/per while Green goes for 6M/per. If you want to improve a team, especially the D, you have to the big money for guys like Niskanen, Stralman, Green, etc.
-
It's impossible to overpay for the right guys, or they wouldn't be "the right guys". For example, how can anyone say that the Hawks overpaid for Vermette? He was "the right guy" for them. You don't overpay for those guys. You just pay. You only overpay for the wrong guys. See: Detroit Red Wings and Stephen Weiss.
