I sort of agree with all of this. But one thing I'll add is that Holland has never had the assets to make a major deal. Except maybe when Filpulla, Hudler, Kronwall and Howard were in GRs together. But even then, retaining those players suited the team's need. Now Holland has more prospects than room, too many skilled forwards, and a glaring need for a legit D man. This is why I DO see him making a major trade either at the deadline or in the summer. Unless he can get a guy like Green or Franson via UFA in July.

McKee is being used as a forward this year. And I have this nagging feeling that Sproul's going to be a bust. Man, I hope I'm wrong.

Depends on how you look at it. Green would be cheaper via trade and he's a righty. But he's also a UFA and we all know how lucky the Wings have been signing UFA blueliners. Yandle is in his prime, under (a great) contract and would be part of this team core for a few years, at least. Plus he's better defensively than Green. So, in my world, the best D man who also has the best contract would be the best option for Detroit. Myers isn't even a factor in this conversation. Me no want.

Currently, yes. But as I said in another thread. If Holland waits until the deadline to make a deal, he can take on 9M+ in salaries. So acquiring Green would not be a cap issue.
