Kind of makes a person appreciate the Red Wings sustained level of success over the last 20-some years. As far as the Oilers situation goes, as embarrassing as it is to think about, I feel like their only strategy is continue to disappoint in the hopes of drafting McDavid, Eichel, or Hanifin.

To Detroit.

It says he was a game time decision last night (groin). That must have been what Babcock meant when he said there could be a possible game time line-up change before last night's game.
-
Calling it now. Weiss will win the Masterson Trophy this year.

No one that finishes in the basement should 'deserve' or be rewarded with the best player in the draft. That's always been my opinion. But that's an entirely different discussion.

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"

True this. Babcock doesn't get all the credit though. Holland adjusted to the post-cap world more quickly and efficiently than most teams, signed Rafalski, and started to reap the rewards of shrewd drafting (Zetterberg, and Datsyuk). Actually, who are we kidding. It was all Lidstrom. -

Now you're just nitpicking. If you reread what I said you know that I'm just pointing out how typically overzealous it is to assume Babcock's going to throw off the kryptonite shackles of this two-bit organization and run into the brawny arms of a real franchise like Pittsburgh and (more laughably) St Louis, and win a "few" goddamn cups leaving this crippled Wings organization and fan-base to drown in a pool of their own ungrateful tears and beg for Babcock to return. Ain't gonna happen. I love our coach. I really do. And, for the record, I want him to stay. But this team has won post-Bowman and they'll win post-Babcock. edit: Oh yeah, the 2005-06 team won the presidents trophy under Babcock then blew it vs Edmonton first round. To me that's a great team that couldn't get it done in the playoffs. -
As if this guy isn't going to stand on his head tonight. Three things Wings fans can always count on: 1. If the opposing starting goalie is a rookie or hasn't been playing well, they will play lights out against Detroit 2. If the opposing team has a player that hasn't scored his first NHL goal yet, he will score it against Detroit. 3. If a player has only scored 4 goals in his last 92 games or something, he will score against Detroit.

Of course. But I believe he calls it "shoot the puck in the net". This sounds like something he might say: "We played OK tonight. I thought the PK was realgud and Glendenning's line played real heavy. Anytime you can keep elite players to only one goal it's a real positive. That being said, to lose 1-0 is disappointing for this group. I thought we had some good shifts in the O zone but what it comes down to is that they were able to shoot the puck in the net once and we couldn't shoot the puck in the net "

I agree Kip. Sometimes I wonder if it's about control. As in: I think Babcock likes tight D because he can control that or make it happen with structure and discipline. Whereas the offence is maybe up to the individual forwards being skilled and creative and less about the coaches 'system'. The only offensive ideas Babcock has ever seemingly had are 1.) shoot the puck and 2.) go to the net.

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"
rick zombo replied to trule23's topic in General
Yes. He could only win one here from 2006-10 when this team was great. But, of course, in your world he'll win at least THREE with another team. -
I could never understand how a Wings fan can get excited about watching players from another team. Does this mean you can't wait to see them play really well, score, and maybe even win? Because f*** that. Maybe I'm crazy or super hardcore or whatever, but I want both Benn and Sequin to come down with rickets or scurvy or something before the game tonight. Or, if one or both happened to break a finger during warmups, that would be OK too. In my world it's all about a Wings win.

And that was an asterisk game.

But Willie Desjardins has been great with Vancouver. Both he and Blashill have Calder Cups. As good as Eakins was in the AHL, he never won that championship. -

Agreed. They'll bring Dave Lewis back as a veteran stop-gap until Blashill is ready. Is there a coaching equivalent to a 35+ contract with a NTC? -

I'm not too worried about Babcock. Leftwinger can always take over the coaching duties if need be. -
This turning into a pretty sad couple of weeks for hockey. Howe in bad shape, and first Quinn, and now Beliveau gone.

Contender? After tonight’s loss to the Panthers? Con-TANK-der edit: for extra ninjas which means I’m not very serious
-
Florida really aren’t that bad though.
-
Agenda much?
-
Man. This team is flatter than Kate Moss on the Gravitron.
-
Well. 1st period hot poop defence better turn into cold poop defence real fast or tonight is going to suck.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Yandle may not be a righty but he's a top 10 offensive D in his prime. Much needed on this team. What would you move to get him? Just curious.
