How awesome would we be if we had personalized chants for our players after goals and such?? I think we should run with it from now on.

True, you need a degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. Look it ups, yo.

I agree with a potential charge. His last stride was late but it was also necessary to get him properly situated. He went way out of his way to set up the hit, though that wouldn't justify a charge. I don't see the elbow or contact to the head. He seems to go right into his chest and his neck doesn't move, which would suggest contact to the head.

Tests Confirm Probert had chronic traumatic encephalopathy
Seraph replied to mstegman's topic in General
If you wrinkle your forehead every day, you end up with wrinkles, folks. What do you think will happen if you decide to get pummeled in the head for a living? It's a pretty obvious risk to whoever is taking it. -
Maybe he's not the classiest guy there is, but you don't give up on your prospects because of personality flaws. You put them in and see what they can do. Ultimately, you have to assess their value because you've already expended picks and resources on them. Remember, these guys are just kids at this point. There is a lot of room for growing both on the ice and in how they carry themselves.

I love it, given that I'm a marvel fan already. I like all the hockeytown themed ones of the past too, but I also think it's cool when a goalie shows a little personality on their mask as well.

I was at game 5. It was a really good memory. But alas, it was tarnished by game 7. The worst part for me was that I was back at school for game 7 and one of my good friends is a Pens fan and I made the mistake of watching the game with him and another Detroit fan. After Lidstrom's last shot, I collapsed on the couch in a haze. My Detroit buddy turns off the tv, and my Pens fan friend is yelling to get the feed back on. It was a complete mess of emotions. I eventually made my friend turn it back on for him because I would be devastated if I couldn't see my team win. But that was one of the hardest things to do. Edit: and I can't believe how many people didn't watch the game. Game seven, SCF finals at home?? I would have the game on even if my child was being born in the same room.

My guess would be the Renaissance. During the SCF it was hockey central with the team logos and everything in the lobby. I also asked the front desk if the Pens were staying there, and the guy said he could "neither confirm nor deny that." So I'm guessing that's where they were, haha.

Helmer, I hope.

The single biggest scapegoat of the Red Wings in the last 20+ years...
Seraph replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Our offense did struggle in the playoffs when Cujo backstopped. However, the type of goals that were beating Cujo were so demoralizing that it added insult to injury. Sometimes you just need your goalie to be able to shut down the game with half a period left. A lot of the time, he would not only fail at that but would let in softies. It was a bad situation overall. Especially because before he came to Detroit, he was my favorite goalie but none of us got to see him thrive here. He was the type of player that could play when you weren't expecting him to win. I mean the guy single-handedly upset the Avalanche and Stars in the 97 and 98 playoffs (which is one of the reasons I liked him as a Wings fan in the 90s). The expectations were just too much for him in Detroit. -
Should I complain about the jersey customization?
Seraph replied to Behind Enemy Lines in CO's topic in General
If it bothers you, then let them know. I would have never noticed something like that though. And even if I did, I would probably forget about it really fast. -
The way the CBA is set up, any new team will impose a big drain of talent from the rest of the league. The way business is done, teams are now handing out 2 or maybe 3 fat, long-term contracts, and juggling the rest with arbitration and lower salary contracts. It makes it much more difficult for new talented players to find a team that will hand them an elite, long-term contract. Take for example Hossa. It took him several tries in Pittsburgh and Detroit before he found a team that would give him a long-term contract with a nice salary. I think as soon as another expansion team is set-up, players who have the talent but just can't find the right team will suddenly be drawn to the opportunity of scoring a big contract. This will take pressure off of these players from accepting smaller sum contracts on established teams and dilute the talent pool. In the end I think the solution will be to move failing teams to better markets. For what it's worth, I'd really like to see a Seattle/Portland team.

He is now just the 3rd player ever to wear a Wings and Avalanche jersey in his career. Who can name the others??
-
Modano was too much of an icon in Minnesota/Dallas for me to truly consider him a Wing. I kind of see this as a side project, like when musicians start side groups to perform in. I like the guy, but investing the money in a winged-wheel jersey doesn't make much sense right now.

I'd love to see Downey make the team, just because he's such a good dude. That said, hopefully he'll come back with some more refined skills because he'll need it. Keep at it man and skate hard.

Forsberg eyeing another NHL comeback?

Report: Forsberg is aiming for a comeback. This just in: no one seems to give a s***. Retire man. -
What number is this fool wearing??

97 was the most special because I had never seen the cup come home before. However, I was only in 5th grade and had only been watching hockey seriously the previous year (beginning of Avs rivalry). Personally, the 2008 cup was really great for me. As much as I loved and idolized Yzerman and the rest of the nucleus of the team of the 90s, I hadn't watched those players get drafted, improve, and work through the system. 2008 was special because it was the next generation of players and I had followed the progression of all of them closely. Plus as you mature, you pick up on the intricacies of the game more and that was fun to be able to witness all the way to the championship. 2008 was also my last year of college and I wasn't doing $#!T but watching hockey and kicking it. Haha.

I don't see how you could like hockey and not be somewhat interested in how a match-up between Ovechkin/Semin would fare against Crosby/Malkin. That is an exciting game. Do you watch the Wings just because of the city they are from, or are you watching because it's interesting to see how the game unfolds? Knowing the attributes of Wings players and how it factors into the progression of the game is just icing on the cake. I would argue a hockey fan would usually be interested in how a game unfolds between two highly skilled teams.
-
It's kinda lame of them to repeat a team but if you're really a hockey fan, there's no way you can't be excited by the match-up. If I had nothing else going on, watching the Pens-Caps rivalry seems like a great way to pass the time. They have really talented players on both sides that should make for a great game. Boycotting it is lame, especially if you think it's gonna affect the ratings. You need to sign up and have some hardware installed on your TV if you want to be part of the viewer polls.

Never really realized on how nerve wracking it would be to be a player at around the deadline. Poor dandy. It was also cool to see Holland and Scotty sitting around like hockey masterminds, stuffing their faces with expensive foods, and making trade decisions. That's a part of it you rarely see with them calling up the other GMs and the players once they are traded.

You could have just asked whether we should tank and build up again versus keeping a constant winning pace. That way you could have kept all of our Yzerman emotions out of it. And no, we don't need to tank and rebuild. Yzerman was great because he was able to do what was asked of him when we needed it most, but we don't need to ask any of our players to do the same right now. We're far from a team that can make early draft selections and bring a franchise player like Ovechkin in. Now we're a team that carefully drafts and keeps the good players rolling in by whatever wily means necessary and I'm okay with that. I like having strong playoff runs each year, I like winning, and I like our players.
