They should just go for the gut and sue the NHL for not drafting the boys last weekend.

I've been wanting to see that Letterman one with Stevie. Could never find a video. Just that dumb site.

I agree, those are pretty terrible changes. Especially having icing on the PK. What the heck is that?? The whole spirit of the PK is to stand your ground, gain possession, and throw it down the ice and then put yourself into gear for the next attack. This would totally throw off that rhythm, which is actually pretty exciting to watch when the attacking team puts on good pressure. All this rule would do is force the defending team to skate the puck further down and dump it or just take repeated icings.

What gets me about basketball is that the whole game is boring for the first half, then the last 2 minutes gets exciting. Even then, it ends with a foul-fest and it ends up sucking. The other scenario is when one team is completely routing the other for the first half the game, then even the last 2 minutes are boring. I think people like talking about basketball more than actually watching it. Also, since the star players can really take over the game, the individualistic perspective of it is appealing to many.

The ratings are flawed. For them to count you, you have to sign up and have them send you a receiver and such. Though, whatever they're measuring, I'm glad it's going up. And I second whoever was saying they appreciate Buffalo fans. They absolutely love their team up there. It's crazy.

Here's some news. Steve Yzerman no longer plays hockey. You want him to sit in an office down the hall from Holland for the rest of his working career just so he can have some undying loyalty to this organization? Sure, the man is an icon, but you have to remember, he is also a man. If he wants to take his family to Florida and pursue other interests, that's up to him. He was a career player for the Wings and helped turn this organization into a contender. He'll always be rememebered as such.

Which defunct team would you like to see make a comeback?

Eva must be a math major or something. Laying it all out there like a proof. Can't argue much with that. -
Bertuzzi states he will either stay with wings or retire

He must not be looking for much cash if he's gonna hang them up. We should be able to get a bargain. Unless of course he's gonna play it childsih with the whole "that's not enough money for me, I'm not playing anymore" game, which would be really lame. -

Gross. Haha. Apparently they were the first to bring the Stanley Cup home to the United States. Already they have a rich history. It could be like the second coming of the Senators. -

The Seattle Metropolitans. The NHL needs a team in the pacific northwest. It's the only region in the US completely devoid of hockey. I mean, sure you could go to Canada where any franchise would be successful, but those people are already following hockey, buying jerseys, tickets, and pumping money into the league. They should go sell the game in a fresh market and help expand the sport. -
I don't think you can put a patent on backhand-forehand. It's everyone's to share. Datsyuk just sells it real well.

I do like this... Has some old school Wings in it too.

I think the whole racist thing comes from comparing a fierce/fighting creature like a "shark" to a real-life culture of people who were misrepresented for a long time as being "wild" and "unruly" and a good mascot for "intimidating" the opposing team. For example, the entire "Sioux" culture probably has more to offer than a group of fighting people known as the "Fighting Sioux." I don't think it's too big deal and I actually think the Chicago uniforms look awesome. But I think we can all agree that the Washington "Redskins" is a tad racist, no?

For some reason I really like the Blackhawks' logo. Out of all the jerseys, their primary logo and their shoulder logos have the best synergy, I would argue. And that will be the last nice thing I saw about them. The worst logo is by far the Carolina one. Their third jersey should be their primary. WAY BETTER, even though that flag technically means "storm warning." You'd need two for it to mean hurricane. The best jersey ever is the third of Buffalo. I really love the design of that one, putting aside the sentimental attachment we have to the Winged-wheel. If I had money to burn, I'd get it just for fun. Also, you ever notice how Vancouver decided they'd like to steal Hartford's color scheme?

I wouldn't put it past Bettman to try and hold the Stanley cup finals in Nashville or something. That would be terrible. It's all about going into the other team's building and facing the crowd and having your crowd back you up. The whole energy of the game would be gone if you did it in a neutral territory.
-
If you like a player you wear his jersey. I still like him even though he's not in the organization anymore. But you are right in saying that I am more inclined to wear an active player's jersey, just because you want to support the current team at games. However, if you liked an era or a certain player in the past, it's totally cool to wear their jersey.

First of all, that PASS video is really cool. He actually says intelligent things compared to players today, which is nice. Second, I highly doubt he'll be coming back people. If he goes to Tampa with the same attitude he used in approaching the Wings, he will create a winning culture there and commit to it. Plus, I highly doubt he'll want to displace is family and kids to Florida only to return to freezing cold Michigan. He's always said his time to the game is now taking a backseat to his family and kids.
-
And whoever said it above was right. If he's successful in Tampa, there will be no coming back to Detroit. He'll devote himself to them like he did to us and bring them home a cup. That's just what Steve Yzerman does.

I feel like Tampa Bay just took our virginity.

They won't change the intent to blow the whistle rule. The reason the ref is calling the play dead in the first place is that he has lost sight of the puck. Telling them to change that is like telling them that they should allow goals that are not visible to the referee. How is the referee supposed to do his job (make sure the goalie isn't interfered with, a hand isn't placed on the puck, or that the net isn't purposely taken off the moorings, etc) if he doesn't even know where the puck is? I think there will always be that lag time for the ref to blow the whistle. Even though losing those goals is a tough pill to swallow, I don't think it'll change.
-
No one will say it because they're an original six team, but the "Canadiens" is a really dumb name. Whenever I talk about playing or watching the "Montreal Canadiens" to my non-hockey fan friends, they are sure to emphasize how terrible of a name it is. From tradition it's grown on people I guess.

Truth is, San Jose dived a lot. Another truth is, they used it to ruin us 3-1. May not be the most sportsmanship-like way to play, but it was smart because it worked. Our team is in the off-season, their's advanced. Unfortunately, in a series where most of the games end in a 1 goal deficit, this sort of stuff makes the difference. I'm not condoning this type of play. All I am saying is that it worked within the rules and the way the refs were interpreting the game. And since it worked and we didn't adapt (not putting ourselves in the position to be called), us complaining makes us sound like little *******. Time to move on, folks. The Red Wings are not the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions.
-
I am actually going to root for the Sharks, which I rarely do for a team that's beaten us. I kind of want to keep playing monkey in the middle with the cup and Hossa. We all hate Pittsburgh, so basically any team that opposes those two teams.
-
Babs is doing a fine job. His head may not be in the right place to call a timeout or whatever you guys are complaining about, but out of all the coaches, he really GETS the big picture. His philosophy is sound and I'm glad we have him. Our team just needs more heart out there and a willingness to fight until the bitter end. If anything, I would think our players need to be more motivated. I don't know if they are tired or what, but we definitely need a Stevie Y type player to go out there with a bunch of heart, and say through his actions: hey we may be up by two now, but let's keep the pressure alive!!

I was bummed when we lost because that made the likelihood of advancing much lower. On the other hand, this will be interesting to watch to see how this team responds and how the next game will unfold. Anyone here who watches Red Wings hockey will tell you that when we turn it on, we turn it on. How many buzzer-beater, come-from-behind victories did we have for a while there in the regular season? It seemed like we were scoring at will. As Red Wings fans, we aren't often behind 0-3. This is just another chapter in our book whether it's the triumph of 1997 or the heartache of 2003. Let's see how our boys respond, let's see how the next game plays out. GO WINGS!
