Crosby talks about how he doesn't like Ovechkin and his post-goal celebrations... I think it's 100x worse for him to acknowledge the praise he got at the medal ceremony. What a ******. It looked like he took credit for the team effort. Worst poster child moment ever.
-
I think had they won, there might have been more of an impact. But either way, it wouldn't have been much. I just think people look up to winners and try to emulate/watch the things they do. With the loss, it's more of a shrug and a "it's their sport anyway" type of thing.

At least we FOUGHT for independence. Bunch of loyalists.

USA strategy so far: making weak shots that may or may not reach the net... Let's take it deep boys, and win some battles!! -
A wings fan wanting the hawks to win? then hossa on top of that?

I said it in another thread... you put a bunch of star players on the same team, half of them won't know what to do without a supporting cast of secondary scorers or role players. The US has meshed well because they come in a wide variety of talent and each know their role and what they can contribute to the team. The Canadian players aren't used to playing with people of the same caliber as them. Plus, it helps that Brodeur bumbling around like an idiot out there.
-
Canada is choking because they don't have role players. You put a bunch of superstars together who usually use a bunch of secondary linemates to dig pucks out of the corner, win battles, and feed them the puck. It's inevitable that nothing will get done between them because they're playing an incomplete game. They've all always played the role of the go-to guy. Now there's no one to "go to" them. Another example: sure, Holmstrom isn't a superstar, but he serves a very important role on our team. Canada needs to pick more guys like that to supplement their players.

That would be so confusing. I doubt anyone here would care about what happened last night in a game in Slovakia. You might as well keep the leagues separate and then have a competition between the KHL, NHL, and other European leagues every once in awhile. Also, if you separated all of the NHL's talent around the world, all of our local teams would suck. You're basically spreading out all the stars. Sorry, but I'd rather have Ovechkin, Malkin, etc. come to our league. If Crosby played for team Norway, I highly doubt he'd be coming to my local area either so I could watch him. Terrible idea. Just enjoy the Olympics while it lasts.

93 has a NTC for the first 5 years of his contract.

If a guy wants to stand in front of the net with the puck, he's fair game to get hit whether his goalie gets bumped or not. I don't see the problem with the goal. What was the ruling? The puck definitely wasn't covered and there was definitely no "intention" of blowing the whistle as evident by the ref who is pointing at the puck as it slides in... Edit, having done a little research. This was their interpretation: So apparently Ovechkin interfered with Price (according to the refs). No penalty called on the play because a penalty can't be called once the play is dead. The refs didn't do it while the puck was alive, so it simply isn't done

Good lucking scrap, but I think the guy buckled his own legs because he was cornered. Got some good shots in while he was down though.

Like people have been saying, the shuttles are good from hockeytown cafe. If you want to go somewhere else though, you can just take the people mover for a couple of quarters... takes you right to JLA. As far as getting a puck, your best bet would be during warm ups. Look out for Drapes. He throws a couple handfuls out. I got one during warm ups once standing under the net. Ericsson had a wild shot that missed the goal and hit the netting above the boards, fell down right in front of me and almost hit my head. Haha.

Just from a business standpoint, it's not smart. Crappy teams make less money. Mr. Illitch is too good of a business man to let that happen.

He's gonna run back to Atlanta for his 100+ million contract and join his new sweedish buddies after this season.

I got one of my basketball player friends into hockey. He likes it now, but still thinks basketball his better. His reasoning is that he doesn't think that in hockey, one good player can take over the game. He enjoys it in basketball when Kobe, Lebron or whoever will turn it on and win it for the team. Then show off, brag, etc. I could see that being true. Hockey is much more of a team sport. It could be much harder to appreciate it that way because you can't project a selfish mindet onto it as much. Also, I've also found that hockey can be really boring if you don't care which team will win. If you're excited and a diehard fan, you get nervous every time the puck enters your zone a certain way. You get excited when it goes the other direction. If you don't care, don't have a regional team, etc, it's way harder to get enjoyment out of it. In basketball, you can still have fun watching the "stars" go head to head and try to outdo one another.

That's always one of my arguments on why basketball is not so fun. The last minutes in a close game are all about fouling and clawing your way toward a tie. It takes no heart. Some of the best finishes to games in my opinion have been in hockey. Game five and six of the 2008 finals. Our almost come-back in the last game of 2007 was crazy too. What's worse is in basketball the last minutes DO tend to be the most exciting part of the game. It's 2 points this way and then 2 or 3 the other for the whole game. It only gets really good with game winners at the buzzer and such. But I have better things to do than waste a few hours watching a bunch of over-grown men either blow the other team out, or get close and then start fouling the other team, finally culminating to the only real exciting "buzzer beater" part of the game.

I was watching the LA feed. The guy was wearing a Wings jersey too. The announcer said, "if he falls on the ice, the wings should get a too many men on the ice penalty..." I thought it might have been Manny Legace...

This is what Sammy does to get a lengthy contract for at least a few years... then he unleashes his true passion for gracing every logo he sees with the smack of his wrist-shot puck. It's a devilish little ploy to eventually get at what he really wants. Look it up, I'm pretty sure he was leading our team in scoring too at first.
-
Everyone here defending Ozzie is full of baloney. The guy prides himself on always being mentally ready with the uncanny ability to step it when he's called upon (playoffs or not)... now that he's called in to play the Caps he whines. Whatever, guys. He's a professional athlete. He has at least a decade more experience than Howard in net. He also believes he should be the starter. Suck it up, make the saves, and start acting like a starting/experienced goaltender.
-
Something's switched on in him. He's definitely putting his head down and charging/cutting toward the net. And it's working. PS... what's with these ads with sound... they got me in pretty big trouble in the middle of a lecture at school. haha.
-
The price it would take to get him here for the off-season is simply not worth it. Totally not a Holland move, and totally not a move I would consider making. Players like Kovie always come at an inflated price. The only way we could get him is if he approached us Hossa-style and we gave him Lidstrom's cap hit.

I have always had this idea too. I can tell you it's not even debatable that the technology is available. It's just a matter of how much you want to spend to make it as accurate as possible. Right now people are performing surgeries with robots over the internet and controlling rovers in real time on Mars. This type of a project is relatively simple and probably attainable as a finals project in a college engineering class. Doesn't matter if the puck goes in sideways or not--you could also teach it to only count it once the whole thing is over the line. I think it would be a good idea to implement but probably won't make it high on the list of priorities any time soon. I don't think the league feels there is too much of a problem with missed calls.

I feel like we've spent so much time healing. It's about time we take that itchy cast off and see what we're made of underneath!
