My guess is Mike Green probably wouldn't even be the same type of player he is if he came through our system.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Jacqui. I wish I could have made it. I at least got to live it vicariously through you. I've actually played hockey on that rink. It's really eerie watching all the players you admire out there playing on the same surface.

I read in some article that from the organizations perspective, it was Ovie's "special energy" and "attitude for the game" that landed him the captaincy. I guess they are trying to promote his kind of behavior. Definitely different from the captain we grew up watching, but I think it'll be fun to see what happens.

Me too! Haha, *knocks on wood*, I'm undefeated at Staples against my friend who's an LA Kings fan when we go see the games. I was thinking with all these injuries I'd be effed this time. I probably am now that I've jinxed it, but oh well. I'm pumped to see our players back though.

That's pretty darn amazing considering we forgot how to score goals for awhile.

Jeremy Roenick says "a big fall is ahead for the Red Wings"

He wouldn't be the first to say it. -
What Five Current NHL Players Do You Hate the Most?
Seraph replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
1) Crosby--you can argue all you want about whether he's good, but I think the fact that he IS good adds to his annoyingness. 2) Pronger 3) Getzlaf--mostly because of the way he looks. 4) Phaneuf 5) Niedermayer HM: Iginla... but he's too good to hate. I don't even consider Tootoo a hockey player, so he doesn't really bother me. He's just some animal they keep in a cage and let loose on the ice every now and then. -
Many players do this. The price was probably set by the memorabilia store... other times the money goes to a charity or cause. It certainly doesn't mean he'd charge you if you caught him after a game or something.

Do we even know how to pick well with an early pick?? I wouldn't be surprised if we trade it for a few 2nd rounders or something.
-
I'm just glad he took his get-on-a-break-away-and-then-do-a-useless-spin-o-rama-shot move out of here. I had flashbacks of his pathetic run in the playoffs when he did that last game.

I have a feeling jake ryan throws one of these timebomb posts out onto the board, sits back, sips some burbon, and calls it a good night.

Don't get all high strung about the joke. It's not the fact that the man died that's funny... it's the inappropriate-ness of the joke and the fact that you shouldn't say it that made them laugh. Having said that, as an announcer, it's totally unacceptable to do on the air. On the other hand, hanging out with a few buddies, I wouldn't see the problem.

Wings on pace for 105 points with a $33 million roster...
Seraph replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
It's cool cuz a lot of these kids have been dying for chance and they want to prove themselves. Meanwhile, the team benefits. -
Don't hold your breath folks. Even if everyone makes it back, they'll be huffing and puffing to get back into form. On top of that, we have to build up our chemistry from the ground up. We're still in for a rough ride.

You block shots when you are willing to sacrifice your body and we're awfully short on bodies right now.

Ablations are done by fishing a cauterizer through the blood vessels (from the arm or leg), so no need for surgery. It's still a crazy story though. I wonder what he has going on with his heart. I do know that these types of procedures are really hard to perform and only the brightest doctors can actually do a good job. Here's to him feeling better and having a fruitful career.

...I like how the Atlanta players are all gathered around him while he's being examed and Ballard skates off and doesn't even realize it. Not a Florida jersey in sight at first.

I agree with the call. You can tell the goalie couldn't make as natural of a move as he wanted to make the save due to the fact that Cleary was in the crease. Tough call, but not as bad as the other one we had earlier this year.
-
I don't think he'll get fired. Though, I'm a little surprised by his attitude lately. In the post-game interviews he seems completely content with our play. He keeps asserting the notion that everyone is playing well and that we'll be rewarded soon enough. I know the new guys are young and all, but perhaps he should push them a little?

I've been to games in numerous cities and by far the crappiest experience I've had has been in Anaheim. I went to a few games in the playoffs last year including the one where the ducks started beating on our guys after the third period ended. At the same time, a bunch of fights broke out with their fans beating up Detroit fans. It's like, come on, really? Is this a gladiator match??

I may be an idiot because I don't understand why the NHL doesn't stream games online if they are also streaming the commercials along with it. In other words, if sponsors are paying for ads on the rink and also during commercial breaks, won't broadcasting that to a national audience only increase their effectiveness? That would make companies willing to pay MORE to advertise their products through the NHL. Plus, if the NHL wanted, they could probably replace local broadcasting commercials with a national version of commercials during the break. I'm sure it's a complicated task, but I figure it could be worked out... Especially in an age where the media of TV, internet, and gaming are meshing into one, the NHL should stream the games to circumvent the difficulty they are seeing in exposing people to the game (i.e. getting a contract with ESPN, etc..). Plus it'd make my life much easier since I moved to CA.

I think as number retirements as players who DEFINED a franchise... Yzerman was a captain that led us for over two decades and was highly loved. He was the player that brought the Red Wings back to life and contention. Lidstrom is the defenseman that is arguably the best that's played the game, who was the backbone to four Stanley cups, was a career wing, and became our captain. Being an amazing player like Fedorov or Shanny isn't enough. Though we loved all these players, it's the ones that contribute most to the legacy of "being a Red Wing" that get up in the rafters.

Let the old man play some hockey in his home country.

It's all on a learning curve. We struggled, adjusted, played harder and probably moved from a C to a B-. We still have a lot of work to do with this squad and the whole roster is going to have to continue stepping up their play. Hopefully with some injuries healing, we'll get our A game back in the next few months.
