    Yzerman Speech

Watch the video at the bottom of the page: link
  2. I guess the question people need to ask themselves right now is if through the years they've been a fan of the Red Wings, or a fan of winning.

He really didn't say that, did he?

It's not racist, but it's discriminatory... sure makes you feel like sh*t to be singled out and looked down upon for things you don't have control over. On top of that, it's applying a bunch of stereotypes, as in someone from Sweden is soft and can't take a hit. Stereotypes are no fun when people try to force them on you. Having said that, people say much worse on the ice regarding one another's wives, girlfriends, etc... so I don't know if that kind of punishment was warranted.

Future in net currently residing in Grand Rapids

Yeah, to me it feels like Howard was held in GR for too long. The way he plays sometimes shows that he's gotten some bad habbits incorporated into his game that won't cut it at the NHL level. In the minors, you can get away with some sloppy play and I doubt getting used to that helps when moving up to a higher intensity league. The other night he was flying all over the place, completely out of position against Edmonton. Made me feel really uncomfortable.

Ozzie's Painted Mask - 05/06 Season - Never Game Worn

Wow, he must really love those Russian masks to never even try one of these out in a game. Maybe it's a superstition/feels wrong kind of thing?

    favourite player growing up...

Fedorov, until he held out the first time and made it really difficult to resign him. Then Yzerman was my favorite.

Flyers captain Richards won't talk to media...

Haha, the frat pictures are amazing. WTF are they even doing there?? Going to those things is lame if you're an upperclassman, much less a professional athlete.

Red Wings Rumors - Oct. 21 via Spector's Hockey

That trade is as far away from a Kenny Holland move as you can get...

    Mitchell hit on Toews

Calm down, buddy. You can't forget the pass, but you can forget who sent the puck over. But yeah, that's a bad play. Talk about leaving your captain out to dry. Beauty hit.

    Le retour des Nords?

I doubt they'll move any team that has a history of winning cups. It'll probably be one of the failing new franchises.

    Lilja's Status

Problem is that even if we do get him back, he'll likely fall or get bumped somehow and it'll reaggravate his injury so it's even worse. For how long it has gone on, it's probably that kind of injury.

Amazing goal by a 9 year old...

The goalie literally just watches the puck go in, and shrugs. Haha.

What does having only 9,100 fans look like?

I bet this will hasten the franchise's move. It hurts the game for this to go on.

    Cam Ward Save

Reminds me of that one save Lundqvist made with his pad in the playoffs a few years ago. Haha. It's awesome when they reach behind them to get the puck.

The Team Swap of 1980 that Never Was

Haha, I guess they could have just traded their whole rosters and sold the franchises to each other for $1 so the names would have worked out.

Ken Dryden on fighting in the NHL

You can't deny that if a goon sees one of his linemates get the living daylights beat out of him, he will be less likely to go out there and cause trouble. You also can't deny that if the same goons play another team who are absolute pushovers, then cheap shots will happen more. The players aren't one dimensional thinkers. They will adapt to each team they play and try to take advantage of their weaknesses. Having an enforcer addresses one of these weaknesses. Your argument is philosophical and not very practical.

    Franzen's injury

I can go along with what you are saying. I actually don't think it would be entirely a bad thing for this team to play through some serious adversity. Last year we were having defensive problems, but somehow we were still squeaking out wins, a lot of the time in the final minutes of games. If your D is sloppy but you're still winning, it's not a very good catalyst for change. And we finally paid for it in that seventh game. I think we're going to be in a slump for a while after this, especially as everyone adjusts. It might actually cause players to reassess how they are playing, and tighten up the D. Basically, it's one thing to try and tighten your D when you're winning, but another when you MUST change in order to win.

Trade Franzen for a goalie? haha

No trade clause for the first 5 years of his contract. Maybe in 2014...

    [GDT] 9/30 - Red Wings, 6 @ Farjestad BK, 2

I really think we need to come up with a song to sing at games here in the US. I think that would be awesome. The fans there were interesting, haha. So polite, clapping for nice plays and such.

I Always Loved Ericsson But When He Did This ...

It doesn't have to be a "good fight" for it to be freaking awesome. Perry is an idiot and didn't know you don't just push around a guy twice your size. I think he forgot that for a second and was cordially reminded.

Brad May to Play on Friday (and Friday's Line Up)

I don't see him sticking around, especially with the cap situation. What this team needs in the future is someone to take on a Shanahan role. I loved that the guy could play on the top lines and would drop the gloves if there was a need. I think it's good that Holland is focusing on showcasing talent, but a role like this needs to be filled somehow. There is no way someone like Downey or May could be regulars without the talent to justify their roster spot. All I know is, it made me feel pathetic getting tossed around by the Ducks after that one playoff game. I was actually at that game too. /rant

    Bruins Winter Classic Jerseys

I like it. It's "fun." Though, if those were my team's permanent jersey, I'd be a little peeved by the cartoony B.

    Jonathan Roy faces assault charge

If you don't see how idiotic young Roy's behavior is in this video, then you may have a touch of whatever is ailing him. I get embarrassed for the guy when he gets drawn back two or three times, then skates all the way down the ice to fight a goalie who wants nothing to do with the situation. Old time hockey and fighting is all about protecting your star players, standing up for your teammates, and getting even for bad blood. It should never resemble an out-right assault. You don't fight for sport, you fight because it's part of the sport. And in the game, there are certain unwritten rules that you have to follow. Having said that, I don't know if he needs to be taken to court. But what happened should definitely be dealt in a way so it doesn't happen again, or often.

    Greatest Backhands in Hockey

Not by any means one of the greatest backhands, but a memorable one... Have you guys noticed, when he's on a breakaway, this is the move he ALWAYS tries. I think they're on to him.
