I agree with you there. Though, the question is kind of dumb if you interpret it like that. You'd be better off asking, "who's the better player?" Also, to assume we could only fit one under the cap (with the rest of the team in tact) is to assume they're both taking the same amount of money. And we both know that will never be the case. Taking Franzen will always leave us more cap room that we can turn around and invest in cheaper talent. In the cap world it's all a matter of how much talent you can buy with the least money, and all we're saying is Franzen is good cuz he is talented, cheap, and will make more room. So I guess all I'm saying is that I agree with all that you just said.

Dude, I don't think you're getting the point of the discussion at all.
-
No one is arguing with anyone about whether Hossa is a better player than Franzen. We're talking about what's the smartest thing to do as a GM.
-
Interesting topic. I'm with the keep-Franzen-camp. Before the cap we'd want to talk to Hossa before working something out with Franzen. But the cap just won't let us have so many superstars on one team. Our best bet is to sign the superstars we care most about (Lidstrom, Hank, Dats), and sign a good number of healthy contributors below them. Not to diss what has been said about keeping Hossa. Of course we'd naturally want the best players on our team. But it's just not cap-smart. Like when everyone was screaming about how Hollad had made so much cap space last season and didn't even use it at the trade deadline. It didn't seem like the best idea. But there was the potential that he'd tie up our money with a mediocre player and then we couldn't have signed Hossa. Sometimes you have to make counter-intuitive moves in the cap world to make your team better. And I think this is one of them. Signing Franzen over Hossa makes us a better team overall. Franzen is cheaper, allowing us to sign another player that can bring another element to our team and make us harder to play against.

Double dare ya to post this on a Pens board.

Are they banking on teleportation to be invented in the next ten years or what? That's gonna be such an awful flight for almost all the teams. Not to mention there will be severe jet lag going on there and back. Sure, you could have road trips to Europe but what happens when the playoffs come around?

Not with those knees. Sorry guys. I don't think you remember how bad it had gotten near the end. He's only older now.
-
Haha, this will be a good thread to cite when he leaves us high and dry and everyone is upset.

I dig the overall look. The logo is kind of tacky because the flag is all torn up. But overall MUCH better than their normal jerseys. They have the worst primary logo, I would say.
-
Yeah. I'm pretty sure the pens knew they could get away with whatever. You never see that happen and not get called, not so blatantly anyway. On a side note, I was going SOOO crazy when we won that I didn't even realize the Hossa shot wouldn't have counted because the clock was at zero. It was hilarious though. My friend couldn't even watch the last play. She stuffed her head in between the couch cushions.

Holy smokes. That was ten years ago. I was in 6th grade then. My class went on a camping trip for two of the games in that series and I was dying inside the whole time because there was no way for me to know how my boys in red were doing.

You think it'll be more likely he'll stay another year if we bring stanley home or if stanley leaves us?

Send Cheli to the elephant graveyard.
-
Hmm, to compare you'd think he'd have seen the guy play... and have seen the name on the back of the jersey...

I just moved out to the west coast and am wondering what to do. I get cable included with my apartment so I don't really want to pay for direct TV/center ice on top of it. Though, I have my TV hooked up to my computer. I was thinking I'd just get center ice online and watch it on there. Has anyone used center ice online? Does it lag? And if so, how often? My fear is that the quality will be unwatchable and I'll have to follow around a ghost puck. Does the online center ice have a free trial or anything?

We all know Huds isn't as tall as Franzenstein. Ya think they sat him on some telephone books?

More proof that Ovechkin is basically awesome

Iggy sure knows how to breed 'em. Hot damn. -
Kudos for you not suggesting he come here. That was my fear. I'm sure someone will pick up Shanny. He's a lovable guy. Hopefully it's not Russia.

It all boils down to Pittsburgh being mad that Hossa thinks Detroit is a better team. Easy as that. The Pens haven't admitted that they lost because Detroit plays better. They don't think Hossa should either.
-
And the fact that he thinks Detroit has a better chance than the Stanley Cup Finalists, Penguins. Though, clearly we all know what's what and that he made the right decision going with the champs.
-
Yeah. We don't seem to be a quick fix kind of team anyway. We'll work stuff out in our own system. We definitely know we have the tools to get it done.

Hahaha, quality post, Cruiser008. Thanks for sharing.

The whining is really bringing his team down. I think that's a pretty big flaw, though, perhaps not enough to get him fired. On a side note, can ANYONE explain what he's talking about as far as "obstruction"? I'm hearing about the accusations in the interviews but didn't hear the original allegation. Does hitting the crap out of your players and avoiding your checks equal "obstruction"? I don't get it.

Why are the Pens automatically annoited the "dynasty" tag?
Seraph replied to MalkinsJock's topic in General
I think a lot of the reason people see them as that is because Gretzky himself has predicted that Crosby will break a lot of his records. That paired with the fact that he's surrounded by a lot of brilliant and talented players makes it look like the beginnings of the Oilers dynasty. -
Astute point. That's probably why.
