Perhaps instead of Blake, they can pick up Marek Malik from the Rangers. They're looking to unload him, and he's a big defensive defenseman. Also, he scores some pretty sweet shootout goals...

Sorry, meant "Guerin an Islander" According to TSN player profile, Bill Guerin has signed a 2-year deal with the Islanders: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...e=nhl-islanders Did I miss the news???

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood. "Henry V" (5.3.44-51) Will Shakespeare said it so well.....

Well, I hope the Commish sees this pic, it's clearly Pronger that does the most damage to Homer in the hit: http://info.detnews.com/pix/photogalleries...cks/index13.htm (Pic from the Detroit News)

Looks like one of my favorite D men is a go for Monday! http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2007/05...eady-to-go.html I think Lebs is just as good as Kronwall, maybe even better with his bigger size and great wheels.
-
Guess you're right, Kronwall is about an inch taller, but 10-20 lbs lighter than Lebda, depending on which web site you believe. It just seems that Kronwall is very injury-prone. Lebda is a faster skater, though I don't think he has as good a shot as Kronner.

Otto - I hope the fact that Z didn't practice today doesn't mean anything... http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...3/1053/SPORTS05

He's right.... Our smallish, slower, less tough players will have their hands full against their big, tough Sharks forwards. Here's a couple of smallish Wings up against Calgary's defense, (which averages 6'2" and about 215 lbs - what do you know?!):

The standouts: Rivet is a -3, Guerin is a -1 DRW has no minus players 4 SJS players have 10 or more penalty minutes. 1D, 3 Forwards 2 DRW players have 10 or more pen minutes. 1 D, 1 Forward SJS have no shorthanded goals DRW have 2 shorthanded goals Pretty evenly matched...

According to Kenny Holland on Detroit Sports Radio, looks like it is indeed an eye injury for Homer. Day-to-day. He has blood on the eye and they're waiting to see how he goes in the next 48 hours.... right now it's swollen shut. Click on the Ken Holland podcast: http://www.1270sports.com/ Not good news, the Wings need Homer to screen the goalie and get those "garbage" goals. He's probably the MVP of the playoffs over the long term. Bert and Kyle may have to take his place as best they can.

Well, there's definitely something to that stat they threw up on just how skewed penalty calls go towards favoring the home team, which of course they shouldn't. Wings won the first two games with some help by being on 5 on 3's, and the Flames got the same in the last two games. If it wasn't so skewed and we had a more even strength series, the Wings would be ahead just because the Flames can't seem to generate much at even strength (2 or 3 goals so far?). There's been some sport analyst comments suggesting that since all rinks are pretty much the same, there's no such thing as home ice advantage anymore. In today's NHL playoffs, "Home ice advantage" consists of (in order of effect): 1. Considerably more calls going your way, including a much greater likelihood of getting some 5 on 3's, 2. Last line change 3. The crowd (morale boost, but also adds greatly to #1, which it shouldn't) Luckily the Wings still have home ice, so all this will eventually play in their favor. Expect them to have more power plays than the Flames on Saturday, and vica-versa on Sunday. Wings in 7!

I guess I may be panicking a little. But, I do believe that the Wings really need to win Games 1 and 2 to have a chance in this series. And not having Bert there doesn't help matters... But, I would rather have Zed back than Bert, if I had to pick one of the two...
-
Looks like that %@$# $^@ Kara Yurio (or whatever her name is) prediction is coming true. She said that the Bert trade was a waste of prospect and picks and that he wouldn't be healthy enough to be a factor in the playoffs... I'll be...

As the Freep says today, Kronwall "leads the team with 99 blocked shots and is fourth in hits (92)." So he's a good shot blocker and physical player, which will be missed to some extent, but I don't think he contributed all that much to offense. In the playoffs, players tend to step up the shot blocking and hitting and I think we've got guys who'll step up, like Lilja. Another thing about Kronner is his size, I think he's just a little too small to handle the hits laid on defenses in today's game, and that's why he's getting injured. Over the last few months Lebda has really impressed me with his speed and skill. If the team had to lose one of the two, I'm glad it's not him. I think Quincey will do as good a job as Kronwall, and being a little bigger than him will be good for the playoffs. So, like people have said, I think it's a small impact on the team but one that can be made up for.

Keeping in mind that Anaheim and Vancouver could still be passed by other teams in their divisions... I think the best -> worst first round match-up possibilities for the Wings would be: 1. Minnesota 2. Dallas 3. Calgary 4. Anaheim 5. Vancouver 6. San Jose The first three teams I think we match up very well to this year, we've always had good luck against the Wild and the Stars. Calgary isn't the same team it was a couple of years ago (though they still have good goaltending), and they only won the other night with the help of numerous power plays (at home, even). Anaheim is scary on paper, but the Wings beat them both times at home this year (although they were missing Pronger the first time). Home ice advantage would play in here. As for Vancouver, they always play the Wings very hard (we never seem to win on the road against them) and I think a series against them would also neutralize our man Bert. I think he'd feel too weird playing against his former team. Luongo is a factor there too. The least desired team for the Wings to meet in the first round would be the Sharks, in my opinion. They've owned us all season long and seem to just be bigger, stronger and faster than the Wings. Forget regular season records, it's all about match-up in the post-season, and San Jose seems to have the Wings' number. My 2 cents!
