  1. I don't want to give up our future for the guy, but come on- he's almost exactly what we need. He's a top pairing d-man that can provide offense and a net front presence on the power play, which are the things we've lacked most since lidstrom and holmstrom retired. If we have the cap space to re-sign him, even if it's for a couple years too many, I'd do it. A first, a second, and a prospect isn't much to give up for that... we have more mediocre defense prospects and good forward prospects than we have available roster space for going forward, and datsyuk is gone after next year.

  2. I would personally like to thank crap teams who need to grossly overpay sub-elite talent in order to keep them there. Now every player of that calibre can use them as an example at to become grossly overpaid arbitration. Thanks buffalo, Columbus, Ryan O'Reilly, and Brandon saad!

  3. Dumb move. We're not hurting for cap space next season and now Weiss is on the books for 6 seasons. If Weiss still didn't improve under Blashill, we could have done the same thing next year for a more reasonable penalty over 4 seasons rather than 6.

this is how I feel as well. We had nothing to lose by giving him one last shot. Waive him if he sucks at the start of the season. If he resurrects his career somewhere else, we'll probably feel pretty stupid. Oh well, hopefully this is the precursor to a bigger move.

  4. I'm really starting to think that abdominal injury he was stuck with last year could have destroyed his career. I say this because i merely tweaked a groin muscle at work probably a year ago, and it was never the same. It makes you feel like you can't move in directions or ways you once could, and that strength you relied on to be agile is greatly reduced... jonathan cheecho I think had sports hernia surgies, and iirc Osgood did too. Neither of those guys were the same after.

  5. Makes sense, and I acknowledge the grey area that can be complicated to deal with. Overall it's pretty well controlled, so I'd say if a new thread pops up with which could be a duplicate, let the quality of discussion dictate the survival of the thread. overall it's not too bad, and I think anything that is newsworthy, like a big hit, suspension, injury or a nice goal, should be enough justification for a new thread. thanks. and the cleary/holland/franzen bashing is getting a bit old, whether it's justified or not imho.

  6. I would like to bring up a rule I'm not sure I like on here. It regards the whole problem with starting multiple threads for the same topic. I've seen new threads about something fairly important get deleted because they were being discussed, and buried, in another large thread. Then, when you see an old thread about the topic get brough back, it'll get deleted too. Why have a million pages of forum topics if we can't start a new discussion or read or talk about a specific thing? I don't want to read through 85 pages of text to talk about one signing, it's a waste of time.

  7. I would have to agree that perhaps it would be time to 'promote' holland out of the position at this point... had we not lost Nill and Yzerman. But isn't Develanno still president, old as hell? And doesn't Ken Holland prefer to be a GM? Let's be real, Holland does some dumb stuff, like that roster logjam to start last season... except we didn't lose anyone on waivers and wound up with impressive forward depth throughout the season, so I think he's doing pretty well. I wish he'd make a trade though every once Iin awhile.I think the main reason we can't get defenseman anymore is because Lidstrom is gone and 'top pairing' defenseman can't just come here, relax, and pad their stats like they used to.

  8. Bonino had more points than kesler last year and is a few years younger, so I feel like this trade is maybe more fair than it apparently seems. Having Getzlaf and Kesler down the middle though, is probably as good a one two punch as you'll find anywhere.

  9. If a player comes in and thinks he can get paid and not perform, then I'm content with a player like that signing elsewhere- it's a favorable deterrent.

Only reason I think he's on drugs because of his demeanor in an interview, where he was almost goofy happy and his eyes were glazed over like he was on painkillers, which would also explain how he played through a sports hernia and now isn't getting better. besides, his production dropped a great deal after that wrist injury so I'd say it possible for sure, but I admit it is a bit of an unlikely long shot that I'm coreect about that.
