I haven't tuned into Detroit sports talk radio in a while (traveling too much), but was shocked to hear Regner on WDFN this afternoon. Didn't he get canned? He sucks, IMHO. Listening to him try and spit out a question as he attempts to interview someone is nothing short of painful. He drones on ad nauseum - with no insight whatsoever - until he runs out of breath, forcing the interviewee to practically guess what the hell he was trying to ask. Does he have incriminating pictures of metro Detroit's radio station managers or something?
-
Ah -- thanks. I'm glad he found gainful employment and all, but I wish that his new gig did not involve giving him airtime to talk about the Wings.
-
I've bumped into Maltby in Grosse Pointe several times over the years. He's a great guy, especially with kids. He's always happy to sign an autograph and/or pose for a pic.
-
Agreed. The rumor (allegedly) originated from someone who works on the sports desk of a Pittsburgh paper. Guess we'll know soon enough, but I'm sure Fleury would have to be barfing up a lung (a la Ferris Bueller) or something to miss tonight's game.
-
Someone on a Blues board just mentioned a wild rumor that Fleury may have the flu, and thus Conklin could start tonight: Link Near the bottom of the page. (If true, I like it.)

Holland: Mule doubtful for game one, according to USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/2008...874622778_x.htm Article also says Holland is "hopeful" that Franzen will play at some point in the series. Docs will be examining him again later in the week.
-
Yep. It's funny, however - he's from Windsor, and by many accounts is a decent guy off the ice. Can't stand him as a player, however. Zero class, zero respect for opponents, zero respect for the game. In other words, a total punk. Boogard or somebody will teach him respect soon enough, I imagine.

Stars have a bright future. If the young defensemen continue to progress, and if Brunnstrom can contribute as projected, there's no reason why they shouldn't be in the hunt for the next several years.
-
Good God. I love D Mac, but does anyone else think he needs to sit?
-
Um, okay. What struck me was the realization that a respectable franchise is on the verge of being taken over by a bunch of punk *******. Morrow is a heart and soul guy, Modano is a credit to the Stars, U.S. hockey, and his hometown of Detroit, but pricks like Ott and Turco's rapid descent into Belfour-style psychosis make it easy to really dislike the Stars. Apparently they're not capable of simply accepting a loss like men. Instead, they have to do their best St. Louis Blues imitation and goon it up like a bunch of crybabies. Yeah, that'll win ya hockey games.
-
Exactly -- especially with Quenneville behind the bench. If there's one thing he does well, it's goon it up when he falls behind to the Wings. I remember Kocur almost going after him a few years back.
-
Jeez. No kidding. Nice of him to just stand there with his thumb up his ass and watch the shot/goal. Some NHL defensemen in that situation might consider tying up their man in front of the net.
-
Was he any good? Kidding -- I'm sure he was. I'm surprised, however, by how many times I hear "I played with Player X (now in the NHL), as a kid, and he was nothing special." Plus, it's great to hear stories about late bloomers. It offers hope for us beer-leaguers that we might become decent players someday.
-
That would be great, but I hope Kronner grows more selective with his hits with each game. Need him 100% healthy.

Bruins fan celebrates by urinating on crowd

Well, there certainly can be no doubt as to how the "victims" felt after this incident. They were pissed. -
Swing and a miss, but thanks for offering evidence in support of my recollection, not yours. I said Holland modified his offer when he sensed the economic landscape had shifted, which you explicitly concede by offering his helpful quote that "Times changed." You said Holland's final offer was a "lowball ... that was truly ridiculous for a player of [Fedorov's] caliber," but offer nothing to support this. In fact, in terms of dollars, when compared to the offer Fedorov accepted from Anaheim, Holland's final offer was neither a lowball nor "ridiculous," but rather was in the ballpark as to his fair value at that time. Moreover, you can make a compelling case that Anaheim's contract was actually in excess of fair value for a player of Fedorov's "caliber," which is probably why Anaheim moved him.
-
At the risk of this thread spiraling off into yet another "Why Fedorov Left" disquisition, can I ask if you have a link to a story/report about these "facts" that "every" die hard fan "knows"? I don't seem to recall the Wings low-balling Federov with a "ridiculous" offer at all. I thought Holland modified his offer when he - correctly - saw the economic/CBA landscape shifting, but Fedorov decided to leave and accept an offer that was pretty much the same as Holland's last one, but from a different team (Anaheim). If you can't back up your assertion with facts of your own, you have zero business lecturing others about getting their facts straight.

Damn! I missed the fight. Did Downey get some shots in before Lappy turtled? Never liked Lappy, anyway. He's always been a little punk.
-
That was freaking bizarre! Never seen a studio analyst jump up and strike that pose before. His co-host actually looked scared for a minute and was clearly at a loss for words.

This coming from someone whose team has never achieved jack s**t in its 40 year history. Time to return to the mirror and resume your daily affirmations, friend. C'mon, you can do it. "The Blues are the Wings' *****, again. But I will deal with it, again. I will think of a happy place and move on, again ..."
-
The Blues fans are hilarious. They're all hyperventilating about how the Blues need to start gooning it up in order to "send a message." Right -- as if that "strategy" worked out so well when Quenneville tried it. He basically assured that the Blues would spend the better part of a decade as the Wings' *****.
-
Indeed. Of course, if he gets the hat trick, look for Jackman to throw the sucker punch while Flip celebrates. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Jackman is a punk.
-
Look for the crybaby Blues to start gooning it up. All the idiots on the Blues boards are foaming at the mouth about how it's time for the Blues to "send a message." LOL. What message would that be? "Let's take some more dumb penalties before we lose the game! Then we can start a second decade as the Wings' *****!"

It's great to see a little justice served. Nice work by Lucic. http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/39463

Cool. I have lots of friends in St. Louis who are Blues fans, and I will readily admit that I felt for them as they watched all that talent pass through town with the team never quite putting it all together. I do think the team's fortunes will change, however. The new ownership (and especially JD) know what they're doing. Murray is also a very good coach. I'd say Blues fans have plenty to look forward to.
