2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)

I'm really starting to like Nash less and less. He's been pulling that chippy, diving BS in Columbus for a while now.

2010 Winter Olympics - Sweden vs Germany (Group C)

Missed it -- what did he say? His bull-in-a-china-shop commentary lately is really getting old.

2010 Olympics - Sweden vs Canada - Women

Okay, I'll admit it. That sounds kind of ... hot.

Does Holland have the courage to tank this team?

A plausible (as others have started to mention), albeit extraordinarily unlikely scenario: the Wings keep sliding, end up sellers at the deadline, and shop ... Nick Lidstrom. Yep, Lidstrom. Ken tells Nick that the best way he could help the team's future would be to agree to a trade to a contender for a blue-chip prospect and/or pick or three, and then the two of them will talk again in July. Wildly improbable, I know. Still, it's an interesting scenario to ponder.

12/9 GDT: Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

And your little stat means ... what, exactly? Those last three years would be years in which the Wings either 1) won the Cup, 2) came within a game of winning the Cup, or 3) went to the conference finals. Those three years also would be years during which the Blues achieved absolutely nothing - which pretty much explains the history of the franchise, no? (And spare us the BS about the Blues "glory" years of making the rigged finals in the late 60s.) Few things are more amusing than when Blues fans show up here with the latest manifestation of their Wings-obsessed inferiority complex.

10/10 GDT: Capitals, 2 at Red Wings, 3

How 'bout that hit on AO when both were going for the puck. Flip not only didn't back down, but he sent Alex into the boards. Awesome.

    Bertuzzi = Lang?

I agree. No, he didn't show up on the score sheet. Yes, he was playing with Dats and Z. Still, Bert looked very solid last night, getting some good scoring chances AND was very responsible defensively. If he can continue to play like that every night, he will end up being a great signing.

Sports Teams with the Most Annoying Fans

Totally agree. Especially Blues fans. Sometimes it seems as if most of them couldn't care less if the Blues ever won a game, let alone a Stanley Cup. As long as the Blues' opponents always leave the ice on stretchers, those Neanderthals are giddy.

    [GDT] 10/2 - Blues 4, Red Wings 3 (Stockholm)

Exactly. I had the misfortune of living in St. Louis for a few years, and the whole city has a hilarious inferiority complex, although Blues fans are the worst. It's a shame, too, because St. Louis has some passionate, knowledgeable hockey fans. The problem is that such fans are always drowned out by the "fans" who either 1) couldn't care less if the Blues ever actually won a Cup or anything (as long as the other team is carried off the ice on stretchers, they're giddy; slugs like Reed Low are worshipped like gods), or 2) would rather do nothing but whine about how the Blues don't get enough "attention" or "respect" from the national media, fans of other teams, etc., despite the obvious (at least to the rest of the world) fact that the team has never achieved a freaking thing in its 40+ year history. (Although their apologists laughably cling to the team's finals appearances in the 60s, when the NHL rigged the alignments so that an expansion team would make the finals. Kind of like the NFL guaranteeing the 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs or Seattle Seahawks a berth in the Super Bowl and the chance to get slaughtered by the Steelers.) Nothing beats listening to Blues fans when their team is losing in the 3rd period for sheer entertainment value. The crescendo quickly builds in support of the Blues gooning it up in order to "send a message" for the next game. Problem is, it's never exactly clear what the message is. Based on their record, it's probably: "Let's celebrate another decade of never actually winning anything, but at least we'll send our WWF fans home happy."

    [GDT] 10/3 - Red Wings, 3 @ Blues, 5 (Stockholm)

LOL. Whatever "style" the Blues play, you know better than I that it has never amounted to jack squat, right? Never accomplished a damn thing in the 40+ year history of the franchise. (If that translates into orgasmic joy for you each time the Blues beat the Wings, it's certainly understandable.) As for the style we're used to in Detroit, it's the one that wins Cups, as you know all too well -- otherwise you wouldn't be trolling here satisfying yourself with some self-styled need to call out posters for their comments that you (unilaterally, as a fan of another team) feel may be "stupid." Your candor speaks volumes. Do you really have some deep-seated psychological need to share your "hate between Blues fans and Wings players" on a Wings board? As I suggested earlier, maybe you should try therapy to figure out why that is. It really belongs on a Blues board, where your pals do little more than fantasize about players on opposing teams being carted off the ice on stretchers. It's a "style" that's never amounted to anything for the Blues or their fans for 40+ years, but if it makes you feel better, have at it, friend.

    [GDT] 10/3 - Red Wings, 3 @ Blues, 5 (Stockholm)

Good God. The inferiority complex that afflicts Blues fans is freaking hilarious. Have you tried therapy? You're posting on a Wings board, genius. Most of the comments will be Wings-centric, focusing on the performance of the Wings. Do you honestly believe that regular posters on this board are unaware that there was another team on the ice in Stockholm, and that we need whiny Blues fans to keep us from "forgetting?" Are you 12 years old or something? Perhaps you should go back to one of those absurd Blues forums, where your mates couldn't care less if the Blues win games against the Wings or anyone else. As long as the other team is lying in pools of blood and/or leaving the ice on stretchers, you clowns are happy. Small wonder the Blues have never accomplished anything in their 40+ year history.

    First Game Impressions

He's just a Hall of Famer, who also happens to be an accomplished team ambassador who still (in his early 80s) raises tons of money for various children's charities in metro Detroit. All of which you would know if you actually had a clue, instead of just showing up here to vainly flash your troll credentials. Grab a few facts next time.

    First Game Impressions

LOL. Typical Blues fan. Pretty big mouth for being a fan of a team that has never accomplished a goddamned thing in its 40+ year history.
  14. Grateful Gadsby

    Jason Williams

Amen. Jason Williams played his way off the Wings permanently after that godawful playoff performance against the Oilers a few years back. I would be shocked if Holland considered having him back.

Ken Hollands Backup plan (its worked before)

Not only that, but Talbot is a classless punk, who comes awfully close to exhibiting Claude Lemieux-like gutlessness with the way he cheap-shots and skates away to hide behind a ref. He's certainly come through for his team with some clutch goals against the Wings, but I would love to have seen a Wing break his freaking jaw after his spear to Ozzie and slash to Dats's foot.

SCF GAME 7 GDT: Penguins 2 at Red Wings 1

Regardless of Hossa's performance during the playoffs, there are some interesting scenarios during the off-season for the Wings that don't involve him. Given all of the turnovers and sloppy defensive play and breakdowns that plagued the Wings at key points, how about letting Hossa walk and signing Bouwmeester to shore up the blueline?
  17. Grateful Gadsby

SCF GAME 7 GDT: Penguins 2 at Red Wings 1

Amen. I still say Maxine doesn't score two goals tonight if the Wings had someone who had beaten the s*** out of him after his cheap slash on Dats's foot in Game 5. Heck, even though he wasn't an "enforcer," I would have loved to have had a Dallas Drake skating for the Wings this series.

SCF GAME 7 GDT: Penguins 2 at Red Wings 1

Still say it would have been nice to have had at least one player on the team with the gonads to make Maxine pay when he slashed Dats in the foot in Game 5. Maybe he doesn't score two goals tonight if someone had stepped up and broken his jaw instead of letting him get away with it. Just sayin.

WCF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 4

One can definitely make a case for not signing Hossa. Here's another idea: go in a different direction and get Bouwmeester. Nick can groom him for a season to take over as No. 1. The team might actually start playing defense again.

Game 1: Lidstrom will play, Ericsson questionable

Damn, that does not sound encouraging. Maybe it's been discussed before, but do we know exactly when Dats got injured? I haven't been able to watch all of the games, but I've got all of them Tivo'd, and I'd definitely be interested in checking out the play if, as most seem to be saying, he took a shot off the foot.

WCF GAME 5: Blackhawks 1 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

Good God, does Lebda suck sometimes. One of the fastest skaters on the team, and yet he's just standing there with his thumb up his a$$ while Kane blows by him for the tying goal.
  22. Grateful Gadsby

    Oh, joy! Oh, rapture!

Exactly. He even picked the Avs over the Wings last year. His hilarious attempt to back-pedal away from that one after the Wings swept was worth the price of the McPaper alone. That said, he does respond to emails, and I'll also give him props for recognizing in one of his columns a few years back that Woody Paige and his ilk in the Denver press are totally clueless when it comes to hockey.

WCSF GAME 6 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Ducks 2

No kidding. I'd like to think I'm a grownup and all, but sometimes I literally can't watch the game because of the anxiety. I'll pace the house, wandering in to check the score, etc., but won't be able to relax in front of the TV until I'm positive that the Wings will win. It probably isn't healthy.

    5/10 Playoff GDT

Didn't Walker used to play for the Preds? I remember him being their cheap-shot-artist-in-chief for a few years.

    5/9 Playoff GDT

The Caps' D has been fairly underwhelming this whole series. Varlamov has pretty much carried them -- until now, anyway.
