That's it. I'm writing someone. This is bulls***. Every other event can be seen in it's entirety except the men's hockey. 1-0 USA! -

Flip gets on the board! -
Of course I'm sick of hearing abot him. I'm sick of seeing the clip of him lifting the cup in the Joe. But these are things that will not change. Better get used to it. Personally I think Ovechkin is a much more appealing product and much more entertaining, but the bandwagon loves them some Sid the kid.

2010 Winter Olympics - United States vs Switzerland
Hockeytown Red Wings replied to redwings8831's topic in General
I thought they played pretty well, especially early when the US was carrying the play. Obviously lacking a little crispness and chemistry, but good enough to get the job done. Defensively I thought they found themselves out of position a little often....like a team of Lebdas. But not bad, considering the only goal Miller gave up, he put in himself. -

USA! Hopefully this is the start of a better showing than in 2006. -
Atta boy! Get er' done! USA! USA! USA! /sarcasm

Yeah, a lot of people didn't like Thorne because he was always so excited. But I'll take a little over-excited announcer, over a boring monotone one anyday. He was the voice of a lot of great memories in my childhood, so I've always had a soft spot for him. Pretty sure he's doing play by play for the Baltimore Orioles now. And I think Clement got a job being Peter Forsberg's jockstrap.

You have to account for a lot of people watching hockey just because it's the Olympics, so I can understand why he's saying these things. Imagine trying to follow cricket on tv when you have no idea what the rules were. However, his whiny "...and a DRIIIIVE" will certainly get on my nerves before it's all over. I miss Gary Thorne.

Holmstrom won't play in the Olympics - Franzen take his spot
Hockeytown Red Wings replied to a topic in General
I was really encouraged by Franzen's return. He literally looked in mid-season form. However, outside of Kronner, perhaps no one else's limbs worry me more. I was hoping he'd have two weeks off to sit back and continue to rehab his knee. But best of luck to Johan, stay on fire, and maybe get Hank going too. Who knows, if Sweden makes a gold medal run, maybe it'll inspire them once they get back to the NHL to make another deep playoff run. Didn't work out so well in 2006 though. -
That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm not trying to say that if you grew up in Tennessee and root for the Russians you're some kind of communist. Again, I wasn't saying anything was wrong with it. I don't root against any of the other teams, it has nothing to do with the "hated" Russians (though if I'd have been alive in 1980, I'd like have been rooting against them). I remember there being a big following of 1998 US women's national team when they made their gold medal run and beat Canada. People who didn't care about hockey were excited, and hockey fans who didn't care about women's hockey got on board if for no other reason than it was Team USA and we were US citizens. If you like Russia because of their playing style, that's great.
-
That read passive aggressive. I guess it's the same as people who root for a player over a team. If they're favorite Red Wing leaves, their devotion to the team leaves, whereas to me, the logo on the jersey is more important than who's wearing it.
-
If Canada does win gold, I assure you the last thing I'll be thinking about will be Crosby.
-
I will say that I don't get Americans (US) who aren't rooting for USA. I guess if a person immigrated to the US and your country of origin is in it, I can understand it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I just dont understand that thinking myself.
-
There isn't a team I'd be opposed to winning. Typically I wouldnt want Russia to win, but I like Datsyuk and Ovechkin, so even then I'm ok. If the US doesn't win it, which I know isnt likely, I'm all for Canada winning it. I love Canada, and I don't know why anyone would root against them. There are a few players I don't care for, but the US has a few players I don't care for either. It's all about the international competiion for me..... so USA! USA! USA!
-
You mean Americans want the US to beat Canada? The nerve! I think you're being a bit sensitive here.
-
I'm an American. To me the Olympics are about supporting your country first.

2/11 GDT: Sharks 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)
Hockeytown Red Wings replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
If this goes to a shootout tonight, I'm not even gonna bother. I've wondered why I've continued to watch the last several times. -
Look, I like Sparty, but this might as well be the team's motto. Is Dantonio's seat getting hot?
-
Gotta agree. The Spartans were more than a player away from the B10 title.
-
And that's what we counted on. Tressel knew we could win that game by pounding the ball and taking advantage of a turnover prone team. The game played out just about as I expected. Michigan played pretty well, but as they have all year, the turnovers killed them. I was treated well this time. No spitting haha. Talked with the two Michigan fans in front of me all game. They're on the Devin Gardner bangwagon.

WHAT A GAME!!! Stafford rookie record 5 td passes. I wonder how long he'll be out.
