    2024 Offseason Thread

Waivers go into effect 12 days before the start of the regular season. They last until the day after a team’s playing season. Do you think every gm in the league knew Vrana had a drug problem but not a single media member? I dont buy it.

If every gm knew he was damaged goods someone in media would also know it and every fan would know it. This seems more unlikely then the FC theory to me.

Its the only thing that makes sense. It might not be this but there has to be something else involving SJ and the future considerations. Theres no way Walman goes unclaimed if waived so why attach a very valuable 2nd round pick if theres nothing else to it? But it doesnt make sense so?

Maybe because of this > Avoid suspicion from the league? I dont know its just a rumor I saw online. Id rather Roy over Gost not sure the cost tho.

Rumor is the future considerations is Grier has to claim Holl off waivers couldnt be included in the trade because San Jose is on his notrade list. If thats what this is its a masterclass by Yzerman clearing up $6.8m to go big game hunting.

Ed will be best dman on the team by end of next season.

I disagree. We need another top dman but Ed is ready for huge minutes paired with Seider.

    Rumors Thread

Theres nothing out there saying Seider or Lemieux are asking for $10.5m. its a bogus rumor hes not getting close to that. Larkins $8.7m is the bar no player is making more then that especially coming off elc. Seider and Raymond need longterm deals signing either to a bridge would be a mistake imo. Yzerman is one of the most respected GMs in the league no GM is offersheeting one of his players. If they did it would be a tough decision but its highly unlikely youd get a player better then Mo even with 4 1st round picks. I expect both to be signed longterm between $7.75-8.5m.

I wish Yzerman coulda been in on Gauthier but McGroarty could be a great pickup too. Similar style play that powerforward game something this team is lacking.

It would certainly take more then Berggren but I guess that might be a starting point. Berg + 2nd + ?

According to Friedman McGroarty could be available. Wonder what it would cost.

    2024 Draft

I was referring to 55-65 pts. Catton had 116 pts in 68 games.

    2024 Draft

I wouldnt put too much stock into Buttons mock drafts hes the worst. Id love Iginla at 15 no way he gets there but hell be closer to 15 then 3. lol Thats terrible production for the best player in any draft and thats not close to what Raymond is. Hes already exceeded that in his 21 year old season. Raymond will be over a pt/g winger through his prime.

    Rumors Thread

From Peter Baugh of the Athletic - basically the Rangers Max Bultman. My guess is there are teams that would be interested in Trouba, but I can’t see any being willing to take on his full contract and send back NHL players to the Rangers. If Drury wants to move Trouba, he’ll likely have to retain some of the captain’s salary or add a pick or prospect to sweeten the deal. The only way I could see the Rangers getting back an NHL player is if that player is also on a less-than-ideal contract. A hypothetical of that would be Trouba, with some of his salary retained by the Rangers, to Detroit for Justin Holl, who has two years on his deal left at $3.4 million AAV and was a healthy scratch at times during the regular season. New York could then either buy Holl out for cheaper than Trouba or keep him as an overpaid third-pairing defenseman. Either way would clear up some cap space, though far from the full $8 million Trouba makes. So salary retained and take on a negative asset which is similar to what I suggested since to move Holl Yzerman would likely have to retain and add a pick. This isnt the first Ive seen similar trade proposals for Trouba suggested however its possible that the public view of Trouba is very different from Drury much like the public view of Chiarot is very different from Yzerman. Either way I wouldnt want Trouba even if it was salary retained unless were gaining something from it. Trouba at $6m would be another overpaid defenseman on the books imo. ASP is at least a season away from the NHL and probably 3+ away from top 4 if he ever even makes it as a top 4 which isnt guaranteed. We need a top 4 RHD stop gap. Holl/Petry aint it.

    Rumors Thread

When a team wants to dump a bad contract they have to pay. Rangers might buy out his contract meaning its a bad contract. Roy/Pesce are both better then Trouba and teams can get them for similar price without giving up assets. I dont think Trouba is considered a top dman anymore maybe Im wrong.

    Rumors Thread

Id assume Drurys already explored trading him and if theres talk of a potential buyout I cant see him having much trade value. If a team is willing to take him at 25% retained thats still money saved by the rangers short/long term. I dont know about others but I wouldnt want Trouba at $6m for 2 more seasons unless theres an asset coming back. Id rather save assets and swing for Roy/Pesce in FA. If the Rangers are expecting an asset in return I dont see teams being interested and hed be a buyout.
  20. stephen-gregory-yzerman

    Rumors Thread

I disagree if they want to trade him its going to cost them. With 25% retained its still a cap dump and retaining $2m for 2 seasons is better for them then $4m for 2 then $2m for another 2 in a buyout.
  21. stephen-gregory-yzerman

    Rumors Thread

My guess is the same reason most players are whipping boys - contract. Trouba very obviously isnt worth $8m but Id take him as a camp dump with salary retained if the asset attached is sweet enough or sign him cheap if hes bought out. Hes still a good mid pair dman imo. Ed-Seider Chia-Trouba Walman-Holl/Petry would be a tough d to play against.

Series Thread: Edmonton Oilers Vs Florida Panthers

Are McD/Bouch gonna break Gretz/Coffeys playoff points records of 47/37? Both need 5 to tie/6 to break them in what will likely be 2 more games. Would be 7 more games then previous record holders but still impressive.

    2024 Draft

What would you package to move up to 10/11? 15, 47 and Berg/AJo? Id do that for Catton. edit: change that to 15, 2025 2nd, AJo. Is that enough? Probably not. Draft Catton at 10/11 and Fischer at 47 <- dream scenario

    2024 Draft

I feel like this might be a bit that Im missing out on but I wouldnt bet on it. It takes a team wanting to trade down and/or overpaying to move up. Im not sure either are likely with Yzerman but getting Catton in any fashion would be big time for this org. Catton oozes that dynamic skill this team is lacking.
