Calgary aint trading there pick that would get them Iginla. If Yzerman trades up Id hope its for Eiserman I just dont see it happening.

    2024 Draft

Theres always gonna be a player you like more then others at the top/middle of the 1st round and if theres a player you like in that position you take him regardless what rankings say. Name one player Yzerman selected that he coulda for sure gotten later? This is something you can risk in the later rounds not so much in the top half of the 1st round which is why we so seldom see it especially to rid a contract.

    2024 Draft

This is never a good idea don't move down in the 1st round to get rid of a bad contract. If theres a bad contract that needs a pick attached you use a later pick. We seen how that worked in the Datsyuk trade losing out on Chychrun for Cholowski.

No way Calgary pass on him if hes there at 9.

    2024 Draft

Ya every team would love to have a Matt Tkachuk type but there so rare to come by. MBN could be a Johan Franzen type with a higher motor. Id take that at 15 all day. The way Yzerman is building this team theyr gonna be a nightmare to play/matchup against.

    2024 Draft

The cost would be too high to draft a player at a position of stregth imo. I dont disagree that this team needs more skill but its obvious Yzerman prioritizes responsible hard working character players. He doesnt avoid skill its just not at the top of his list. So far it seems to be working. Seiders a work horse that supposedly had very little skill upside in his draft year. The skill is there and hes gonna be a top10 dman through his prime. Raymond while undersized is a dog on pucks rarely loses puck battles the skill is undeniable. Edvinssons a unit but also has a silky smooth stride and hands. Kasper similar to Seider was said to have very little skill upside but showed in the SHL and AHL that the skill is there and should translate to the NHL. Danielsons known for his defensive capabilities but hes no slouch offensively either. ASPs the only example of a pure skill player he selected in the 1st round and that was with his 2nd of 2 picks.

    2024 Draft

I think even if Eiserman is there at 15 - not likely - Yzerman would pass on him. Ironically Eiserman isnt a Yzerman guy. I dont think hes trading up - hes more likely to trade the pick altogether - but if he did I think hed be more likely to be targetting Brandsegg-Nygard then Eiserman.

    Griffins vs. Admirals series

The Griffins need Edvinsson in the lineup. Hopefully hell be back tomorrow night for game 4 - must win game.

    2024 Draft

Prime hockey yes and when I said top player I should have been more specific. I obv didnt mean the top player on the team like he is now I meant a top6 player on the team. Maybe 10+ was a tad ambitious but imo Larkin will still be a top6 c at the age of 34 - in 6 years. Hopefully by that time Danielson has emerged as a 1c. Im not sure if Larkin gets a cup in Detroit but I do think he retires a Red Wing and that cup window should be wide open by year 3 of his current contract.

    2024 Draft

Larkin will still be a top player on this team for the next 10+ years. Half those players will either not make it or be traded by then and therell be kids from the upcoming drafts and players currently on other teams playing in ther spot. Point is its dumb to talk about a "post Larkin core" if your talking core you dont leave out your best player and captain who is only 27.

Stability/guaranteed money is why Ray and Seider would sign longterm. The exact reason you stated is why Yzerman should do everything in his power to convince them to sign longterm. These 2 are studs and would be worth every penny of the aforementioned contract and might be enough to entice them to put pen to paper. Injuries are still a thing and while its probly not on the young invincible players mind it should be on the agents mind.

On a scale of 1-10 how mad will you be when they both get a milli more then that?

See my edit. Didier may be the best option or maybe Gettinger.

Danielson should be playing. Hes instantly an upgrade over most of the vets on the team as well as a couple of the young guys. They probly wouldnt take out a vet so Id take out Lombardi. Edit: just noticed they played 11f/7d last night so Danielson could also get in over a d. Didier way hs a couple games in the first round maybe thats a option again.

Yes lets walk our best winger straight to free agency. Theres no scenario where Yzerman shouldnt lock up Ray and Seider to max term. $7.5m and $8.5m respectively would be good contracts now and be some of the best contracts league wide in the next year or 2. Stop trying to cheap out on talent especially homegrown talent.

    Griffins vs. Admirals series

Why I asked the question. I think we have 2 future top 6 forwards here. Danielson is the likely c and move Kasper to w. Id like to see Kasper on Larkins wing along with Raymond next season. Danielson may need some time to adjust to pro hockey but should be the top c in GR to start next season.

Looked like he could finish there.

In the unlikely scenario thats a great problem to have in 3 years and then you know what Yzerman does? Pay them what theyr worth just like he will with Seider and Rayray.

Theres gonna be some dumdums wrongfully calling for Yzermans head when he hands out team friendly deals to Seider - 8x$8.5m and Ray - 8x$7.5m
