I sincerely hope the NHLPA members vote to opt out of the current CBA and open negotiations on a new system. The lowering of the cap is utterly and totally ridiculous.

If he has to sit out against Phoenix to rest, I think there are worse things in the world.

Summer 2010: Use Lidstrom's cap space to sign Luongo?
WingNut 25 replied to Reilly's topic in General
You're assuming there will actually be cap space. God only knows how low the cap could go with the economy being as it is. I can also see Lidstrom playing into his 40s, but I also see him taking a lot less money to help the team retain players. Luongo is a pipe dream unfortunately. -
Sorry but there is no way this deal happens.

They've significantly improved their early game play.

I'll be in section 326. Cannot wait!

The word you are looking for here is "balance." Nuff said.

Hope to see you all before the game. Yardhouse now correct? If we don't see you there, we'll be at the bench since our seats are in 103. I'll have my white 08 Cup hat and brand spankin' new Winter Classic jersey on. I just got it yesterday! It'll be worn this one time and then sent to SportsK to get "Hossa 81" on it. -

Hope to see you guys at JT's before the game. If not for sure at the bench. I'll have my red 08 Cup hat on and red Datsyuk 2002 Finals jersey on. -
This is nothing more than a ploy to make him happy and say, "Hey, you're our captain! That is a great honor." He's still gonna leave Atlanta.

Sorry, but Malkin does not win the Hart with Pitt being where they are. They could still miss the playoffs without him. My list: Hart - Alexander Ovechkin (Datsyuk runner up) Vezina - Tim Thomas Calder - Steve Mason Norris - Dan Boyle Selke - Mike Richards Adams - Todd McClellan Byng - Pavel Datsyuk Masterton - Steve Sullivan

Honestly, it looks like him taking advantage of incidental contact, but Pronger showed just what kind of player he is because he followed through with the elbow as opposed to shouldering the guy.

OK, I won the auction on ebay for tickets in the club section (326). That section is in the end the Wings shoot at twice and is directly behind the goal. Should be great since we also get access to the Jack Daniels Club. We should be able to meet up with everyone at JT Schmidt's since my gf and I will be off work at 4pm. -
I hope to see Ozzie pass Sawchuk's record but I think he's already done enough to be Hall worthy.

I was at the game when Cleary dropped the gloves with Pronger. It was awesome!

The entrance the players use at Honda is underground. The bus usually is parked further down the ramp. It is up to the players to walk up to any crowd that has gathered at the top of the ramp. I've waited twice after Wings/Ducks games and no one came up. No clue about Staples though. I do not know that arena very well.

Don't have my tickets yet but will be getting a pair to the game. We may be able to join you all at JT's. -
Sweet! That's awesome man. The only game used stick I have is a Hudler.

I've said it many times before that I think Lids will return from his present contract and take a greatly reduced salary to benefit the organization. I'm hoping at this point that because of the opportunity the Wings granted him that Franzen will be willing to stay for a lower price than some other team would overpay for him on the market. Hudler's breakout season is really complicating things. Hopefully he'll do the same as Franzen. I think Samuelsson is as good as gone. We know Chelios is gone too. Conklin will probably have to be let go to bring up one of the cheaper, younger goalies like Howard or Larsson. The tricky one is gonna be Zetterberg. What is he wanting in terms of dollars? Does he stay around Dats' number or does he take $5 million to help the team? Hossa would have to accept a similar number to make it work. It is unreal how the NHL wanted "cost certainty" and now the teams this cap was supposed to help have either been hurt by the cap or still can't manage to operate to a profit. I can't imagine how bad things will be if the cap drops to $50 million.

My girlfriend and I are in section 103 row 14. We'll be driving up from work in Orange County so I'm not sure what time we'll be there. I'll text Jacqui to see where everyon is at. -
Well we're all seeing, and will continue to see in the years ahead, that the NHL's salary cap is bad for the league. There are too many teams as it is and now we are seeing a situation in Phoenix where they may not be able to make payroll in the very immediate future. There are rumors in Tampa that the Lightning are shopping Lecavalier before is 11 year contract (with a no movement clause none the less) kicks in July 1. The NHL needs to seriously look at contraction and they also need to go back and revisit the CBA. I just find it comical how it has negatively impacted the league. Fans are going to continually be turned away when their favorite players leave because their current team can't keep them. And not that they can't afford to keep them necessarily but cannot under the cap. Look at Pittsburgh. The cap was created for teams like them and look how many players they lost and those losses have negatively impacted them as they are currently sitting out of the playoff picture. Look at a team like Washington who could lose some of their good young stars going forward if the huge contract they gave Ovechkin eats up too much of a continually diminishing cap number. It is a ******* joke and yet another Bettman mistep. We lost an entire season for this? It makes me sick to think we could lose guys like Hossa, Franzen and Hudler simply because we can't keep them under the cap. We all know Ilitch has the cash to keep them and that makes it worse!

Bobby Ryan is playing really well now that he is actually getting consistent PT. There is no way you can call the guy a bust. As for Franzen, I think he's gonna stay. The Wings gave him his pro opportunity, he's happy here, the Swedish contingent is obviously a plus and he will have the chance to win each year. I think he'll sign for $4 million per.
-
I think the Wings will for sure have Hossa, Lidstrom and Dats there and maybe Rafalski. I think Hank is gonna get shut out this year.
-
Chelios is obviously not happy about how little he has played this year. All you have to do is read his quotes from interviews this season. He's for sure gone after this season, probably to Chicago or LA. I truly believe that when Lids' contract is up that he'll take, say $4 million to help the cap situation. He isn't the type who needs to be the top dog in terms of dollars.

Why in God's name would we trade any of our Dmen? These trade idea threads I see are nothing more than moronic musings. Trades aren't as easy in the new NHL and our Wings learned the hard way in 2007 about having defensive depth. No one is going anywhere and truthfully we can't afford to lose anyone. IF someone gets traded, it'll be someone like Lebda or Meech, not a Stuart or Rafalski.
