It's too bad Lupul got hurt, Kronwall definitely caught him high and deserved at least a penalty...but still, it's nice to see someone exert some physicality beyond the gentle shoving we usually see out of the Wings.
-
From TSN's Ice Chips: It was inevitable...he clearly didn't have a long-term place with the team and you can only carry 3 goalies on the roster for so long before it becomes cumbersome. Even if he clears, his time with the Wings is probably at an end.
-
I'm sure he'll buckle down and play more conservatively once the playoffs roll around...There have definitely been a few goals this year that have been direct results of Hasek's unnecessary adventurism, but like people have said, all things considered he's been quite good. Hell, before the season started most people even didn't even expect him to make it 20 games into the year without the groin blowing out.

Jason Williams has to be one of the worst players in the NHL.

Usually cold streaks only last a few games at a time...JW's been on one since about halfway through last season. At some point it can no longer be classified as a streak... -
Man, Simon was fearsome in his heyday...he's been picking his spots far less frequently lately. He's one of the few elite tough guys who can play half-decent hockey, too. I wouldn't mind having him on the third line.
-
Small, light, and slow...how many players matching that description make an impact in this league? I would experience spontaneous orgasms for a month if Holland got Bertuzzi for Hudler...that is absolute robbery.

Too bad the '95 lockout killed all the momentum that success brought.

OFFICIAL: Forsberg traded to Predators
StaticWithABeat replied to VladyIBELIEVE16's topic in General
Kariya-Forsberg-Radulov Erat-Arnott-Sullivan Hartnell-Legwand-Dumont Hordichuk-Fiddler-Tootoo Timonen-Weber Zidlicky-Hamhuis Suter-Vishnevski God damn, that is a lineup to be reckoned with. No team comes close to rolling top-3 line depth like the Preds do now. -
There may well be some truth to that theory, but that's just a guy with a blog - and from the looks of it, far too much time on his hands - pulling theories out of his ass to fill space.

Who are other potential Selke candidates right now? Brind'Amour is definitely making a case for himself again...Chris Drury...Andy McDonald...Brian Rolston...maybe Justin Williams...Zetterberg compares well to those guys, he should at least crack the top three if he keeps his pace up.

Too bad the cap puts a big damper on putting major deals together, so I'm trying to keep my expectations low...still, how can you not get excited about the prospect of trades looming on the horizon?
-
I'm disappointed we lost, especially to St. Louis, but yeah I was getting a little tired of hearing "...and with that goal, the Red Wings have now gone X games without being shut out" every game...similar to how I grow tired of Ken's constant reminders that Dallas Drake is a former Red Wing, in case we've forgotten since the three times he mentioned it in the previous period.

Is there a better way to sort teams in the NHL standings?
StaticWithABeat replied to WingsFan2007's topic in General
I'll never forget the thread during the lockout that consisted of several pages of increasingly-irritated people trying to explain the concept of a game-winning goal to him. Truly a LGW classic. Edit: Oh that's what the link is...nicely done I did enjoy those little games he used to post about trying to guess the player by listing the teams he played for. -
The "REAL" reason some Detroit fans dislike Fedorov
StaticWithABeat replied to WingNutt's topic in General
Fedorov was my favorite player growing up. He really blew it by leaving Detroit though. I think he was getting restless in Detroit and wanted to jump ship to win some more Cups with seemingly on-the-rise Anaheim. If he had known Anaheim was going to tank like they did and that Detroit would still be in the upper echelons of the league four years later I highly doubt he would've left. I don't hold it against him though, he was just doing what he thought was best for his career. -
Hard to believe he had 3 points in 12 games to start the season...he and Holmstrom have been deadly the past couple of weeks.
-
I wouldn't say no to either one...Doan is the logical choice though, much more suited to our current needs.
-
Domi has been worthless this season, even moreso than in years past. Time to retire. 750K is a great price for Lindros. It's a bit of a gamble but hey at this point, what do the Leafs have to lose?

Liv likely to jump the pond, but not Grigorenko
StaticWithABeat replied to betterREDthandead's topic in Prospects
I hope Jamtin makes it over. I like his style - plays abrasive and physical and has developed some decent hands the past year or two. -
I think Shanny should be next. Then Zetterberg.
-
If there's hockey on FSN/CBC/OLN, I am watching it. Homework, studying, and all other responsibilities be damned.
-
My vote goes to Ottawa.
-
Shanahan. Lidstrom has the personality of an unusually dull rock. He's a great player, but I would want someone a little more fiery to wear the C, someone with the ability to lead by example AND the ability to take charge in the locker room and isn't afraid to shake things up if he has to. Shanahan is that guy, he should be captain the next 2-3 years until he retires, then the new generation can take over.
-
Ovechkin. The more I read about him the more I like him. He's got an awesome attitude & personality, I really hope Washington finds some suitable linemates for him during the offseason.
-
I'm sure Toronto will be selling off players in the next few days, but I doubt Tucker will be among them. He's been one of the few players earning his keep around there.
-
Who would you want? (in their primes)
StaticWithABeat replied to i_like_cheese_2001's topic in General
Definitely Mario. In his healthy prime (all 2 or 3 days of it), he was a points machine, no matter who his linemates were or who he played against.
