At least a used trojan could be flung at or slipped on by an opposing player, possibly taking him out of the play long enough to generate an odd man rush...and it would look better on the PP.

I definitely see where you're coming from...hard to make projections seeing as how Kimbo is just getting into MMA. He's been training hard with some talented people though, if it came to him vs. 40+ year old Butterbean, I'd probably go with Kimbo. Tank is the ultimate untalented goon but I still like him, he's just some big dude who doesn't give a f***, slamming brews and beating on people for kicks. Unfortunately he's a good decade past his prime and I agree will most likely get KO'd early.
-
Watching Butterbean get rolled by 170-pound Genki Sudo is one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed...should've stuck to boxing, fat boy.

Yeah well that's what happens when your team kicks ass for 15 straight seasons, the standards get raised. Dwelling on the things your team could do to improve is part of being a sports fan, and different people express themselves in different ways. I'm not the type to go around preaching doom and disgust, but I kinda understand when people do, because more often than not they're just a passionate Wings fan getting their frustrations out or trying to get their ideas for the team out there. Frankly I get more annoyed at people who complain about other people complaining...it's an online sports forum, if you want peace, happiness, and everlasting optimism you are in the wrong place. People will always find things to ***** about, it is the way of the sports fan.

Team USA has always tended to go heavy on the offensive D (Leetch, Housley, Suter...soon to be the Johnsons, Martin, Carle). Chelios' defensive game is always a good addition, even on the expanded ice surface. Not to mention he'd probably make a fantastic mentor for the likes of Jack Johnson and Mike Komisarek.
-
Damn, first Justin Williams now him...2/3 of their 3 best players.
-
There will be no need for defensive depth once we have the Norwegian Nightmare patrolling the blueline.
-
Tallinder or Lydman could be useful if they were available...they can go ahead and keep Campbell/Afinogenov/Connolly/Kotalik.
-
Hossa is sounding a lot like Luongo during his final season in Florida...I predict he ends up in San Jose.
-
All I know is he's not fun to have on a fantasy team.
-
Vancouver would let both Sedins, Naslund, and Kesler walk before they give up Luongo. They will happily pay him whatever he wants to remain in Vancouver forever.
-
This game looks exactly like last year's playoffs. Except with even worse officiating.

your top 5 favorite non-red wing players today?

Bobby Clarke wouldn't know a successful hockey team if Scotty Bowman was beating him over the head with one. His idea of the perfect team is one that inflicts head injuries on the opposition until they forefit.

Jokinen is great, but somehow I doubt Florida would trade away their bargain-salaried captain while they're within 6 points of a playoff spot. I would be quite content to see Holland avoid the big-name deadliners altogether and just look for a nice reasonably-priced 2nd/3rd-pairing defenseman or 3rd liner...let someone else pay out the ass with young talent and high picks for a broken down Rob Blake, overpriced Marian Hossa, or Mr. I-only-want-to-play-for-Toronto Mats Sundin. There aren't going to be a lot of sellers out there with the standings the way they are, and whoever does decide to sell will command bigtime prices...if nothing worthwhile is available, then so be it. If there's one team in the league who isn't under pressure to force a deadline deal, it's Detroit.

Afinogenov is exactly what the Wings don't need. Their cap money would be better spent elsewhere.

haha...he shot the bear

I'd hardly call that a bad trade, let alone one of the worst of all time...St. Louis already had a solid group of defensive forwards with Mellanby/Drake/Eastwood/Hecht/Reasoner etc, they needed a big gun on offense and they got it in Tkachuk. They proceeded to be legitimate contenders all the way up to the lockout, while Phoenix had one decent season in 01-02 and hasn't made the playoffs since.
-
The Lindros debacle is in a league of its own...Although no s***ty trade discussion would be complete without mentioning Ron Francis/Ulf Samuelsson for John Cullen/Zarley Zalapski...destroyed one franchise and brought 2 Cups to another.

I think the NHL has enough awards...although I wouldn't mind seeing the Keith Primeau Memorial Trophy, for the player who spends the most time falling down over the course of a season.
-
I may have pre-injured his shoulder by dropping him off my fantasy team earlier today. On a somewhat related note, I wish they would get rid of no-potential Derek Meech and use Quincey as the #7. Hopefully he and Ericsson will get NHL time while Kronwall is off drawing up plans to break his ankle two days before the playoffs start.

If it were up to me, it'd look something like this: 2009: Yzerman, Hull, Robitaille, Leetch 2010: Larionov, Andreychuk, Oates, Vachon Honorable Mentions: Nieuwendyk, Housley, Gilmour

Washington has a pretty lousy track record when it comes to building competitive teams, but if they play their cards right I think they should be ready to legitimately contend in another 2-3 seasons. Their current defense is not good enough to get them anywhere, and they need to find a goalie to replace Kolzig when the time comes. For now they need to take it slow and continue to build up.

God I hate Mike Goldberg...I was overjoyed when he left hockey, only to see him resurface in the UFC where he somehow manages to be even lamer than before. I like the Ken/Mickey duo, if they would cut back on the penalty-related bitching and not get overexcited about routine fights I'd have no complaints. Murphy was highly uninteresting at first but he's gotten much better, definitely getting the feel of broadcasting.

His price will be too steep for Detroit, I bet he goes to San Jose for Marleau.
