Mule Unleashed: Franzen a GO for Game 2

I wouldn't be suprised if Datsyuk and Z were split up on the road but not at home since the Wings get the last line change. They will keep rolling out there every time Crosby steps on the ice. On the road, though, they might get split up to make it harder for Pittsburg to avoid them with the line changes.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

Once again, you are in the minority here. TSN is running a poll and 72% of the respondants think it SHOULD be a reviewable play. It's probably going to be 73% in a minute because I'm about to vote. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/Default.aspx

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

Nah, Eva just likes to argue. Any time there's a controversial play or call, Eva chooses the side that no one agrees with and argues. I've been watching him do it for years. Back to the topic, is O'Halloran going to be on the ice the entire series? I certainly hope not because it seems that no ref in the league has made more "questionable" calls against the Wings than this moron.

O'Hallaran - Default call is 'interference'?

Before I read your first post in this thread, I thought, "Eva will be arguing with everyone about this" and I was right. So, you think the announcers were wrong, the TSN crew was wrong, as well as ALMOST everyone (ironically, a Dallas fan is saying it was a good call) else was wrong too? That's great that you posted some rules. However, you fail to mention that FLUERY INITIATED THE CONTACT OUTSIDE THE CREASE. Why is it that the goalie didn't complain, ala Turco? Maybe because he knew it was a good goal? Holmstrom CAN stand in front of the net with his stick on the ice. That's a FACT (to borrow one of your illuminating lines from this thread). If the goalie runs into him, it's called incidental contact, which is allowed. The whole dispute in this thread seems to be based around who initiated the contact. Holmstrom had his stick on the ice outside the crease looking for a deflection. Fluery skated into his stick. To me, that would mean that Fluery initiated the contact. If you think Homer did, then you would think it was a good call.

    Good Start Wings

And this is one of the things that concerns me the most, they usually seem to let up for a game or two. They could have closed out Dallas at home and came out and laid an egg. Same with the Nashville series. I hope they don't let up at all and give the pens some confidence. Other concerns: 1. Franzen's health. He needs to play. 2. Bettman. It's only a matter of time before the officiating becomes even more ridiculous. Maybe Homer will get a penalty for goalie interference when he crosses the blue line. 3. Crosby's line will probably not be matched up against Dats and Z on the road. Luckily, if Franzen comes back, the other lines are great defensively also.

    Good Start Wings

I'm a little suprised at how cocky some wings fans are being. Two important facts to keep in mind: 1. Pittsburg will play better in game 2 (which may be offset by the return of Franzen) 2. The Wings historically let up when they get a lead in a series. If they do that in this series and let the young Pens get some confidence.................... Before the series began I thought Pens fans were some of the cockiest, most arrogant, disrespectful fans I've seen on this site since the Calgary series a few years back. However, this thread doesn't seem to have that same tone.

    McCarty vs Downey

Are you serious? Kopecky was becoming a force on the ice and was getting better and better in the weeks leading up to his injury. His ice time was climbing and Babcock stated numerous times how impressive he had been. The playoffs are EXACTLY the type of situation where he would be good. His size, strength, physicality, and willingness to go to the net would be a valuable asset this time of year. (Not taking anything away from Helm, who has been very impressive). Back to the topic, if the score is 5-1 Wings, give me Downey over Mac. Anything else, give me....... Abdelkader!

Melrose opinon on the crease goal

Here's the rule: (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../805160373/1128 Of course, Bettman is saying it was a good call in this article.

    Top 5 Most Hated Players

My bad. On the main page it just says "top 5 most hated players". I didn't notice the subheading when I came to the thread. So, my new list goes: 1.Tootoo 2. Erat 3. Ott 4. Turco 5. Trotz (I know he's not a player but I can't stand that shoulder pad wearing troll)

    Top 5 Most Hated Players

It's stunning to me that Pronger isn't on everyone's list. How quickly people forget what a cheap-shot ass-bag he is.

    Top 5 Most Hated Players

    1. Pronger 2. Perry 3. Tootoo 4. Phaneuf 5. Ott/Lappy The hatred many have toward the Stars is simply because that's who the Wings are playing right now. To be honest, the Ducks are 10 times more irritating than the Stars, in my opinion. Having said that, Ott is an ass!

    Ribiero's swing at Ozzie

Campbell was at the game and saw all the BS that Turco and Ott did in the game. I think all of that crap those two did will make him want to send a message. Therefore, I think he'll get a game or two. For those who are saying that Mccarty will immediately go out and beat him up, that won't happen in the playoffs. Too much at stake. The only way it'll happen is if one team has a big lead. Plus, I think D-Mac would more likely go after Stephanie Ott, who has done nothing but cheapshot smaller guys (kinda like Claudia used to do) in the first two games.

    Franzen out for Games 2, 3, 4

The next game is Monday in Dallas and he has a Dr. apt. Tuesday in Detroit. He's not making the trip to Dallas so he'll miss game 3 for sure. So, best case secnario, he misses TWO games.

    Hasek..

Could easlily be down 2-1 right now if it weren't for the play of Hasek. People need to relax. Maybe blame Stuart and Kronwall for being out of position? Just a thought. Or maybe blame the coaches for the horrible line change???? Just another thought.

Barry Trotz turned into a Nancy

Tsn is saying the second goal shouldn't have counted due to goalie interference by Homer. http://www.tsn.ca/other_sports/story/?id=2...s=topStory_main

Barry Trotz turned into a Nancy

I guess I missed it. What did Trotz do? I watched the game but only watched live action and didn't pay attention when play wasn't happening.

    Line changes for Saturday

If you read the posts, no one got their "panties in a bunch" because he said Downey should sit. Instead it was the stupid comment that Downey hasn't won a fight all year and that his 5 year old was more scary. You'll notice that youngguns and myself don't agree on who should play, yet we can do so in a civil manner because neither of us is saying something without basis. I think Downey should play because he brings more energy and has been with the team all year and he thinks Mac should play because he has a bigger upside. Those are legitimate, well-informed opinions. Now, saying that Downey shouldn't play because he hasn't won a fight all year is assinine. In response to your last comment, maybe you should think back to the last Anaheim game. The Ducks were up by one and were carrying play. Downey challenged and beat Parros. Momentum swung, Wings tied the game, and eventually lost due to a bulls*** goalie interference penalty on Homer. That fight completely changed how that game was played. btw, that fight was between "two thugs" as you call them and it directly influenced how the game was played. Or better yet, ask Z, or Lidstrom or any other Wing who has publicly stated how important it is to have a guy like Downey (or possibly Mac if he can get in shape) on the team. Anaheim dresses three guys who can fight well. Seems like they did pretty well last year.

    Line changes for Saturday

You realize that it's virtually impossible to pick up on emotions through reading someone's typed messages, right? That's why people will put something like (sarcasm) after a post if it's sarcastic. Opinions are fine, but to say that a player hasn't won a fight all year and always goes to the ice first would seem to indicate that you haven't watched them play much this year because your comment is simply untrue.

    Line changes for Saturday

I thought Boll and Davison might have gotten the decision over him. But for someone to say that Downey always hits the ice first is absurd. He beat Parros, Lappy, and Maclaren (as well as his last fight against Chicago, can't remember who it was, though) very convincinly, imo.

I hope you're not serious. He's not a great fighter but he certainly won more than he lost this year and for his career.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

    Mike, is that you?
  24. therock48880

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

Notice I said "could have had". Personally, I didn't feel it was a penalty but when I saw this thread I thought it may have been about the trip. The "trip" was certainly more deserving of a penalty than the holding penalty they called on one of the Preds (Bonk maybe?) early in the game. It blows my mind how they can call something like that phantom hold and then let all of the holding, cross checking, etc... go in front of the both nets.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

They should put a camera at each line. All the replays I've seen were from different angles.
