Any news on Samuelson? I read yesterday he had a pulled groin. I'd like to see Downey, Drake, and Mccarty all play tonight against the goons.
-
Hate to be negative because I'm glad he's back, but I don't think he wants to fight Mayers right off the bat. I'd take Mayers in that one. He REALLY needs to stay away from DJ King. I was hoping Downey, Drake, and Mac would play tonight. Maybe the Blues would cut down on their goonisms (new word) from the other night.

I believe in a seven game series a team makes its own luck. The "lucky" argument against the Wings is debatable and one that's been discussed several times on here, but there was nothing lucky about the Stanley Cup Finals. Unless you consider it luck when a team physically dominates another team.

1. Can't stand him 2. Wish he was a Wing

What bugs me, and someone mentioned this earlier, is eventually someone is going to cheapshot the idiot and something VERY serious could result. (Steve Moore, for example). If you think back to the Moore/Bertuzzi thing, the Canucks were irate that the league didn't do anything to Moore for his cheap shot on Naslund. So, look what happened. I don't want that to happen to anyone, including Pronger, but eventually someone will snap if the league doesn't step in and discipline him for his cheapshots. Imho, of course.

GREAT point! Laraque gets three games, Pronger gets 1.

Who do we WANT to play in the first round?

Vancouver scares me. If Luongo gets on a roll he can steal 2-3 games all by himself. -

Anaheim. I know it won't happen but I'd like to see the Wings play them before they get banged up by playing physical teams like Calgary and San Jose. The little injuries are already piling up and it's not going to get any better playing seven game series against those beasts. -
The NHL isn't even a sport any more. It's sports entertainment just like the WWE. This is absolutely stunning. (I wish this would have happened BEFORE Matt made the thread about not swearing because I've got a lot I'd like to really say)

Worried about which non-producing forward is going to have to sit if Mac plays, huh?

This might make you feel better.

I agree that those words are overused. I've got a possible reason why the word *** is overused though. I'm a teacher in a middle school and this past year or so, we have noticed a tremendous increase in the word "***" in the hallways by students. Recently a student used the word in my class while referring to a book we were reading. I pulled her into the hallway and asked her to define the word "***". She told me that it means "stupid". I explained that it was inappropriate, blah blah blah. My point is, I think we may be seeing one of those times when the meaning of a word changes. For example, *** used to mean happy, then it switched to meaning homosexual, and now it appears to be changing again. I think the word "***" originally meant "cigarette" and so on. Now, in terms of the abundant swearing. Some of the threads lately have sounded like a bunch of teenagers were typing them. I admit, I swear occasionally, but it's usually justified (for example the goalie interference call on homer during the ducks game or the "off the net" goal against the sharks). j/k I realize it's wrong, though, and that kids are probably reading these posts. I wouldn't want my kids to see some of the stuff being said on here and I'm sure those with kids would agree with me. I'll clean up my language and I hope others do the same.

Missed a slash by Homer on Nabby and also missed the subsequent cross-check on Homer by a Shark (forgot who). Remember after the lockout when they called obstruction in the neutral zone? Those days are long gone. I wish the puck would have hit the ref in the head after it bounced off the net, then he'd have blown it dead for sure. I still can't believe that four guys missed the puck sailing about 10 feet over the boards, bouncing off a net, and falling back onto the ice a few feet from a ref. I honestly wonder what on earth that ref was watching. Some hot girl in the stands? I don't get it. I thought the call on Homer against the Ducks was bad, but this may be one of the worst blunders I've seen in years.

I don't think there will be a change, but as I was laying in bed last night unable to sleep because I was so pissed that a goal was allowed to be scored after the puck hit the netting, i started thinking about Babcock's coaching career. In Anaheim, he had the Ducks play out of their minds for a year and they almost won the cup. Shortly after that, his hard practices and constant pushing wore thin on the players and he "lost" them. Watching the game last night, I thought the wings looked disinterested. They weren't skating hard, had no forecheck, no backcheck and lost most battles in the corners. I hope Babcock isn't "losing" the interest of these players with his hard approach to practices and games. They just didn't seem to have much motivation with their skating last night until the bulls*** goal was allowed.

I don't think they should pursue any free agents and save the cap space for the trade deadline. Oh wait......
-
Inevitably he'll be compared to Lidstrom by LGW members. Since he won't ever play as well or the way Nick does, he will be a target on this site. I'm going to guess that the first "Stuart Sucks" thread will be around March 7th. Just a hunch.
-
For the record, I think they'll win in the first round. Anything after that.......................????????? I wouldn't bet on it.
-
Which decision was right? Not pursuing free agents (other than Rafalski who was only signed because Schneider left) last summer so he could save money for the trade deadline? Or not trading for any secondary scoring at the trade deadline, even though he had said that's why he wasn't pursuing free agents? 4 Million Dollars under the cap at the end of the year and SAMUELSON is one of their top 6 forwards!?!?!? WTF??? Anaheim is arguably bigger, stronger, and better than last year. Detroit is smaller and softer. If you think the wings are banged up right now, wait until they play a seven game series against the Ducks, Sharks or Flames. Plus, with Z's back situation, it certainly would be nice to have another forward that can bury the puck in the net. Well, at least Illitch will have an extra 4 million to find a middle reliever since Rodney is now out.
-
Everyone is quick to point to the injuries as a reason for the losing streak. Scary truth is, though, they were not playing well BEFORE the injuries. What bugs me about today is that we kept hearing how they kept cap space to use at the deadline. Brad Stuart and Darren McCarty are not what I had in mind when they said that. Maybe they should have a couple goals given to them in the playoffs since they will finish the year about 4 million under that damn salary cap. (btw, how would a healthy Bertuzzi look right now? Because that's how much he's making this year).
-
It's all an elaborate plan by Holland to become GM in Toronto and Yzerman will take over in Detroit. (I know that makes no sense, but nothing else does either)
-
5 million under the cap all year long so they can trade for Brad Stuart and sign Darren McCarty? Hindsight being 20-20, they should have been more agressive in free agency.
-
Good point. All the cap space in the world isn't going to help unless someone else wants what the Wings have to give them.
-
I'm becoming a little nervous myself. He's got 2 1/2 hours left so he could still pull something off.
-
Wings are suddenly the fourth best team in the west, assuming they are 100% healthy come playoff time
-
I doubt if Flips going anywhere also, especially when you hear that Hossa wants 9-10 mill. However, IF he was on the trade block, do you really think Holland, Babcock, etc.. would say he was? That'd be a great way to drive his value down.
