I know this guy has scored some shorties at key times but is he really worth nearly $4 million?
-
A smidge late but really no big deal.

To say that Forsberg has always been garbage is an enormous stretch. He was an incredible dominating player in his prime. He is a proven champion and has persevered through injuries that would have long ago driven a lesser player to retirement. I admire him a great deal personally. I don't know if he can, will, or even should come back but spewing bile about him is just silly.

My favorite thing about this game was the Ty Conklin show. I love to see that guy doing well. Had a moment in this game that was reminiscent of his behind the net cough up in the play offs w/ Edmonton. Unlike that situation, he sped back into position and stopped a great scoring opportunity. Here's hoping he keeps it up and pushes Fleury when he comes back.

I don't think any GM worth their salt would bear that in mind at all when considering signing any player. The GM's job is to build a winning team, not fan the dying flames of a long cold rivalry. I don't know that I'd want to see the Wings sign Forsberg, unless it was a total steal, but my reservations are more related to his ability or inability to play hockey. You know, the relevant stuff.

Confirmed by Tsn now.

This is good for Cujo and good for that kid who's been backing up Kipper. He should be developing in the minors instead of sitting in Calgary, probably.

Hmm...does this make Lilja Blake or Foote? More importantly, who is ugly enough to be Ricci?
-
I've actually thought the same thing about the two of them for a while now.
-
I admit it. I'm bummed about this. I was sort of daydreaming about Cujo going to the Pens and helping them to make a more serious playoff run than last year. On days when I was really feeling separated from reality, I may have imagined the glory of a Wings/Pens, Hasek/Cujo final.

I couldn't help but think this was a little karma for the Sens when it happened. They were very good last night at the little dirty hits when the refs weren't looking. I saw a very intentional run on Hasek behind the play at one point (no call) and I watched Drake get punched in the back of the head right next to the ref (no call). Can't really blame the refs for that, since they were watching the play around the puck and can't see everything but when Heatley took that digger into the boards and came up hurt I have to admit I felt a little better about that punch in the head.

Tsn.ca story Looks like going to Chicago worked out for him. That's nice to see. I don't know how well he'd have fit in Detroit and now he's on an up and coming team for 3 years. Could be worse.

Yeah, Sopel has played alright over there but I don't see how he's worth over 2 mill. That seems nuts.

I never really expect Chelly to fight. He's very good at looking like he's going to fight but he never seems to struggle when the refs intervene. He does a lot of shouting over the ref's shoulder. Chelly is an agitator and always has been. Not too shy with the dirty stick work from time to time either. I kind of love that about him. He pisses the opposition off in a big way but he does it by hitting to enrage rather than to injure.

I assume Drake is done after this year. Downey may or may not be coming back. The one scenario I could see being (remotely) possible is for Mac to play this year in GR and then if he truly rocks, get signed in the off season by somebody....maybe.

Those of us watching on Versus caught the tail end of it. As for retiring jerseys, I think his belongs in Chicago. I love Chelly but that's where he was during his greatest years.

Clarke Loves Cheapshots So in Bobby Clarke's world, if a hockey player injures another player by a play that is not only dangerous and stupid but also deliberate, no one should say anything about it. If they do have the poor taste to actually call the goon out, then they should just take their cheap shots to the face and remember they deserve it. Way to go Clarke. You're a real helper.

If Ozzy continues to play at the high level he's shown us so far this season this deal is going to look like a real bargain.
-
Emory's cruddy play this year has been in part due to his lengthy recovery from wrist surgery. Maybe not a good time to play punchy-punchy-dumb-dumb in practice.

I'd love to see the Wings beat or at least come very close to beating this record for the simple reason that it would make the concrete statement that, even though this is a completely different team than the 90s Wings or even the Wings of '02, it is just as good. I guess I'd see it as a passing of the torch. With a few remaining holdovers in Lidstrom, Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom, and Osgood, what we have here is a totally new team. I'd like to see them rivaling the achievements of their predecessors.

I know that Illitch has a "win now" attitude toward the cup but I don't think we should be renting. Being burned on the Bertuzzi deal was plenty for me. If we make moves they should be for depth, not a star rental.

Babcock has been saying Hasek will be the #1 from day one. However, I can't help but wonder if the decision to alternate games until the 60 game mark isn't a way to reevaluate where things stand. Could Ozzy steal Dom's spot? I'm honestly not sure. The good thing is that if we do start Dom in the playoffs, I think Ozzy won't have an ego-maniac meltdown about it as some goalies might, Ray Emory for example.

I can't speak to how to see more Wings games. I watch a lot of CBC though. I freaking love HNIC.

I'm not terribly surprised that there was no suspension here. While I think Downie is a total knob that shouldn't be in the NHL, the linesman also did a spectacularly bad job of controlling the situation. The fact that Downie has no respect for anyone and thinks it's funny to try and blind people probably shouldn't surprise anyone. Let's just hope he doesn't cripple somebody soon. For the record, hockey does not need this kind of thing. Opening the door to reprehensible behavior like this would make the NHL a laughing-stock.
