Sir Drake Quixote! That's priceless!

TSN Story I think this is great actually. I've liked Babcock ever since we brought him in. Nice to see him get the honor.

if you knew yzermans last year to play was the season...

What's to stop Chris Chelios from cloning Steve Yzerman and then trading him to multiple teams simultaneously? -
I clearly recall watching Avery play back then and thinking "what the hell is this guy's problem?" He was in the box all the time. I was relieved to see him go as he seemed like a guy who was all mouth and no follow through. He's developed a lot since then. I'm not sure how I feel about his style of play but there is no denying that he is effective. He's got the follow through these days, and can play the game.

My only ritual is during the playoffs. I keep a tally of goals and assists on my whiteboard at work. No one has any idea what it is.

I don't know. I know Jackman was in no shape to fight for himself but I'm not sure the hit deserved any "sticking up for". It's not like Franzen stapled Paul Kariya. I don't have a problem with fighting if it serves to balance an account that needs balancing. Like Gary Roberts on Eager in that PITT/PHI game a while back. That was a good fight. Eager elbows Laraque and then tries to scamper off the ice so Roberts makes sure he pays. Eager did something kind of questionable. I didn't see Franzen's hit as questionable so I don't see any need to balance things out w/ the fight. Whatever, I'm not really that worked up about it.

I understand calling for no marquee signings. Depth, on the other hand, is something only a crazy person wouldn't want.

I just watched that hit several times and I don't get what the fuss is over. I'm the first one to scream dirty, wings player or no, because I positively hate goon-like dirty play. This was a normal hockey hit. Jackman did a dumb thing and turn his back on an incoming player. There was no elbow. Even the announcers admit that in the video. Jackman clearly needs to relearn how to take or avoid hits. The first part of that isn't "show them your numbers at the last minute". Franzen did nothing wrong and Walker fought him for no real reason, which is kind of pathetic. If he had run Jackman or somehow crossed the line, I'd expect a fight. What Walker did wasn't payback. It was a temper tantrum.

I never really thought this was in doubt but it fills me with glee nevertheless.

I don't know why this is such a revolutionary idea. I understand that the NHLPA probably hinders the issue but frankly, what are there more of in the PA: Goalies or players who shoot pucks at goalies?
-
What's the deal w/ Jackman anyway? I don't get to see him play much. Is he a cheap shot artist or does he just hit a lot (which I'd be fine with). As for the fight, seemed to me like Jackman felt like Lucic wasn't fearing him enough and wanted to reinforce the fear. That didn't turn out quite how he'd have liked.

I believe Smyth is going to be dressed for the game.

I think there is a Vancouver D-man that would beg to differ.

CHI Trades Jim Vandermeer To PHI For Ben Eager
Turkey replied to WhiteLightning91's topic in General
This disappoints me.....but only because I was curious to see if Laraque would lay this guy out in the next PHI/PIT game. -
My first instinct is to say this is an atrociously bad idea. I agree with shrinking goalie gear as the first order of business. It perhaps can't happen all at once but why not treat it like fuel efficiency standards and say something like "all goalie gear is to be shrunk by x% by 2010."

As I've said elsewhere, I think the league is utterly clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. What does he have to do, take his skate off and and swing it like a machete? Absurd. Wake up NHL. Wake. UP.
-
I agree - barring a miracle season for Scott, he has no right to win a performance-based trophy for playing a fraction of a season.
-
Clearly the 'hawks should take him then.

Burke is the only person crazy enough to pay 4 million for Bertuzzi. I don't think he'll be moveable.
-
Edmonton sure needs D-men. So do the Rangers. I'd prefer to see him there. I like the Rangers and I think he'd just languish in Edmonton; they aren't going anywhere this year.

Yes, unfortunately this is not a huge shock. Nor is it shocking that both Bert and Crawford haveboth been pulling the same "no comment" nonsense since this came out. Eventually a number of things are going to happen if this sort of nonsense is allowed to go on. 1) The league itself will be sued and they will lose. They do nothing to prevent players from breaking the rules and seriously injuring one another on a regular basis. 2) There will be a more extensive investigation of an incident like this that will be undertaken by someone who (gasp) doesn't give a fig about hockey and is not overly impressed by the nonsensical, extra-legal "code" that people like to pretend exists. The end result of this is that the NHL will take a massive hit, not just a little black eye. That will have repercussions for all of us as hockey fans. I wish people could just wise up about this before it's too late.

I hate seeing vets go out this way. Is it wrong that I wish he'd just retired rather than having to be waived like this? What a cruddy way to end a great career.

Crosby, Sakic, Jagr I wouldn't have put Crosby first until recently. I've always recognized his skill but I think it was watching him scrum for the puck along the boards without his stick, and eventually come away with it, during the Toronto game that finally did it for me. He seriously has it all. Flashy moves, speed, and willingness to throw his body around.

Hasek does better if he sees more shots and is under more pressure. It makes sense to start him vs the Habs rather than the Coyotes. I'm not writing Phoenix off completely, they've shown they can play reasonably well. I just think Montreal will be the truer test.

Oh man, I can't wait to go home and find out of Comcast in Seattle is carrying this. Is it a premium thing?
