I think a lot of that fear is based on Sharp's contract in Chicago. They are similar players and Sharp's money is more than Kenny is going to want to give Danny.
-
Wow....here's hoping he doesn't go out just like Primeau. Hey NHL, maybe do something about headshots, eh?
-
Oh man! You beat me to it! I love Commodore. I'd like him in Detroit just for his hair. It's also nice to see Stillman get a shot. He plays well for Carolina but they aren't making it this year. With the Sens he has a legit chance.
-
How would it be if coaches could demand that one non-reviewed goal per game be reviewed. They get one shot and the decision would then be final. Would that be too disruptive? Would it even get used?

The attitude toward Europeans is mind-boggling. I hate our big soft Euros. Look at that softie Franzen. Geez! What a wus! That Holmstrom guy is a real cream puff too. Honestly, I think asserting that a roster of Canadians will automatically win the cup is a short-cut to thinking.

Matt made the good point that Staios' contract is nutso. I don't know that he's even a real option as a result.

I'll be holding my breath until I hear that Hasek is all better. I hope I don't die.

I would only trade Dan Cleary for Bionic Dan Cleary. Bigger, faster, stronger...etc. I love this guy and would love to see him hoist the cup with us. He's just the sort of guy we need.
-
This statement just hurt me. It hurt me real bad. Can't stop.....twitching. If anyone needs me, I'll be hiding under my desk.
-
I will be sad if we trade Abdlekader. That's a name I want to see on the back of a Wings jersey someday.
-
I can agree about the injury prone thing. To me, signing him at this point would just mean holding my breath every game hoping he didn't hurt himself. My ulcer doesn't need that.

Forsberg was a leader for the Avs during several years of heated rivalry. I would be kind of surprised if playing here didn't make him feel sort of funny. I suspect you'd never have seen Chelios here either, if he had any say in the matter when he was traded.
-
I have no problem with people not wanting him in Detroit due to the old rivalry. It's sort of nuts but I can deal w/ it. That's what being a fan is all about, I suppose. There are no rules saying you have to be rational. What I have a problem with is wishing him injury, misery, or eternal torment for the same reason. I just don't get why some people think it's dandy to say, "I hope someone breaks his ankle". I mean, I wouldn't reply to a debate on these boards with "I hope someone runs over your puppy." Some things are just sort of repugnant.

Forsberg you....you HUSSY! lol

Has anyone ever stopped to consider the following: 1) Forsberg went to Philly the first time w/ a lot of hype and hopes that went unmet. This is also the team that drafted him. He's a proud man and he feels he has unfinished business there. 2) He might want a multi-year contract because it would mean stability and the ability to focus on the game instead of wondering where he'll be next season. This really isn't about money. I don't get this "highest bidder" thing. Where is that coming from?
-
All hatred of Forsberg is obviously justified by the fact that no Red Wing has ever taken a dive in the history of hockey. Nope. Never happened. Hoping he gets hurt after everything he's done to try and keep playing is really low. If he comes back and plays a few more years he deserves the same accolades Yzerman got for coming back from knee surgery. It would be a really impressive accomplishment and a show of ultimate dedication. The guy is filthy rich, among other things because he was a ground level investor in the company that sells those hideous crocs that everyone wears now. He doesn't need hockey and he doesn't need the money. He does it because he loves it and he has pride.

I love Homer. When he has the puck in the neutral zone, I always kind of expect him to fall down. It amazes me how someone can seem so unwieldy in the neutral zone and so unmovable in front of the net.

Ovechkin Kovalchuk Crosby Komisarik (sp? srsly, I can never remember) Lecavalier

I won't lie, when I see a good fight I love it. Honestly, I think it's great. When I see a stupid fight, for no good reason, I just sort of feel confused.

For the love of God can we try and spell Downey's name correctly? Downie is a psychopath who plays for Philly. Every time I see that name written as though Downie played for the Wings, my brain does a little convulsion of horror.

I agree that I'd rather not see Pavel or Hank fighting (although I also wouldn't cry if they did once in a blue moon). I have no problem with players sticking up for the stars. I think if the average joe gets a cheap shot, though, they can defend themselves. If plucky little Dan Cleary can dance with Pronger (win or lose it doesn't matter) then anyone can do the same. I think the key is to distinguish between hits that deserve an enforcer's retribution and hits that don't. I don't think most enforcers are making the distinction anymore.
-
That's my point exactly, the goon used to be there to defend against hits on stars. I might think that's a little silly but I can deal with it. The problem is the goons are now fighting people for hitting anybody. That's just silly. Admittedly, compared to the average goon most players are superstars but that still doesn't make it right. I like this article on the subject from THN today: LOLenforcers

Behind the play elbows etc get thrown all the time. That's part of the game, I think. When I think dirty I think of head shots, hitting to injure, etc. Giving a guy a little elbow or a little taste of the stick to remind him what hitting you earns doesn't really bother me. People gave Gordie space because they were just a little afraid of him. That's fine. Comparing him to Tootoo is a little silly. Gordie was 10x the player Tootoo is.

Ryder has looked like he's sleepwalking in every Montreal game I've watched this year. Whatever is going on in this guy's head, I don't need to see his zombie routine in Detroit.
-
I don't know about you folks but elaborate formulas like this strike me as sort of silly. I think we can argue all day about which players are great and which aren't, which are clutch and which aren't, etc... The whole thing is subjective and no magic formula makes that any less the case.
